"Os planetas giram em volta do sol.
O Sol tem uma força para mover os planetas em volta.
Urano é um planeta.
Mercúrio fica bem pertinho do Sol, mas ele não é o mais quente.
Vênus é o mais quente.
A Terra é o nosso planeta.
My guest today is my good friend Mitchell (Mitch) Clinton. As a Winnipeg Jets Reporter (and for those who might now know who the Winnipeg Jets are, they are a professional hockey team who play in the National Hockey League ‘NHL’) he has the unique opportunity to actually travel with the Winnipeg Jets across North America.
In this episode, we lift the vale on what goes on behind the scenes with regards to a lot of the various types of marketing that gets produced and distributed through multiple media platforms. We talk about the evolution of social media and the growing impact it has on large sports franchises as well as the amount of effort and teamwork that goes into producing a top-of-the-line end product that ends up getting distributed to millions of fans watching around North America (and the world).
So without going into too much detail on who Mitch is because you’ll have to just listen to the episode for the full rich experience of that. Mitch has been around hockey constantly since around five or six years old and has been officiating (reffing) since 13. His first exposure to broadcasting was after university working at 730 CKDM where he got to read sports and newscasts among many other things. He also played midget AA hockey throughout most of high-school so as you can probably gather by now, he’s a hockey guy through and through.
Mitch has a degree in Journalism with a minor in Political Science which he attained from the University of Winnipeg and also a diploma in Journalism where he graduated from the Creative Communications program at Red River College. He joined the Winnipeg Jets in November of 2013 originally as their Web Content Coordinator and this position evolved quickly as did the rise of digital marketing and social media. Mitch is also one of the hosts of the Winnipeg Jets Podcast, “Ground Control”.
Finally, I encourage listeners to stay to the end because when asked, “Where do you see the NHL heading in the future and things you might want to see corrected?” his answer intrigued me and I’m hoping will spark some curious thoughts. Let me know what you think of his answer along with any other favourite parts of the episode by leaving a comment at the bottom of this post or on my YouTube channel.
Please enjoy this wide-ranging conversation with Mitchell Clinton!
