Thursday, 9/17, 6:30pm: “Red Lines Housing Crisis Learning Center” Report at Studio-X
Damon Rich's exhibition "Red Lines Housing Crisis Learning Center" at the Queens Museum of Art has been characterized by conversation and public engag...ement--from town hall meetings held citywide in neighborhoods affected by the foreclosure epidemic, to the graphics, models, videos and archival materials that explore home finance from the Great Depression to the Subprime Meltdown, to the museum's famed "Panorama of the City of New York" onto which the “Red Lines” team mapped New York City’s 2008 foreclosure filings. At Studio-X, artist DAMON RICH will discuss these experiences with QMA curator LARISSA HARRIS, who commissioned the show at The Center for Advanced Visual Studies at MIT, and QMA Director of Public Events PRERANA REDDY, who organized events around the exhibition alongside a broad array of arts-oriented programming that imagines the museum as a space for community development and social change. "Red Lines Housing Crisis Learning Center" will be on view at the Queens Museum of Art through September 27th.

I don't usually post public pictures of my kids, but I love this one of my youngest. He was working on a book report about monkeys. The headband was used to keep his hair out of his eyes so he could concentrate. Very Royal Tenenbaums.
Hay Wood and Gadesprings Field Trip report - 02/04/14
Hello all.
Last night I was joined by David and Steve for our first trapping session on the Boxmoor Trust's land.
The ensuing conditions were perfect with a good amount of cloud cover present and temperatures holding up at dusk at about 15 degrees.
The only niggle was that damn breeze, which thankfully did drop as the night progressed.
David had already set-up three traps at Gadesprings earlier on, so the plan was to use four traps at Hay Wood and at the Old Barn, then go back to Gadesprings after we had finished.
Setting up 3 different traps throughout the wood and leaving one out on an exposed position near the barn, we were all set and ready for the deluge.
The moths did come, sparingly at first with a spankingly fresh Water Carpet being the first moth in, Brindled Pugs, Diurnea fagella's and Common Quakers followed.
We fared much better this year compared to last year where we had our first trapping session over 3 weeks later than this date, and were catching pretty much the same species, although last year was very odd.
See HERE for last years report.
It was very nice to see so many Water Carpets again, last year we managed about 10, this year we easily trumped that with 20+ individuals.
Also the freshest Waved Umber I have ever seen graced the side of the trap near the Old Barn.
Species of note included 3 Shoulder-stripe, 1 immaculate Purple Thorn and a year first Pale Pinion, which was found sitting in the long grass near the trap at the Old Barn.
So onto the list of moths recorded.

Art direction & editorial design for The Greek Report, a new semi-monthly magazine based on political reportage, social but also cultural subjects.
Readers come across important essays, exclusive news and interviews, infographics and analysis on current events. Through the design we managed to extrude freshness, vibrancy and memorability so it could represent the basic values of it while at the same time differentiate from the competition.
The design should also be approachable and it should embody all the above essential features, since it represents not an essay-based magazine but an everyday one, with all the spontaneity and immediacy involved.
These features were also expressed not only by the vibrant layout but also typographically by the usage of two typefaces: Neutraface Text by House Industries (Greek version by Cannibal fonts), that reflects this freshness, sharpness and accuracy while the research and documentation part of the magazine was expressed through Courier New by Monotype.

Speak out for the victims of genocidal atrocities in Gaza and the West Bank.
No words are too small, no acts too late.
Every human being gets to ask themselves "What did I do in the face of genocide?"
Israel and Zionism have been synonymous with genocide for more than three quarters of a century.

The Mikoyan MiG-29K (Russian: Микоян МиГ-29K; NATO reporting name: Fulcrum-D) is a Russian all-weather carrier-based multirole fighter aircraft developed by the Mikoyan design bureau. The MiG-29K was developed in the late 1980s from MiG-29M. Mikoyan describes it as a 4++ generation aircraft.
Production MiG-29Ks differ from prototypes by features such as a multi-function radar and several new cockpit displays; the adoption of HOTAS (hands-on-throttle-and-stick) controls; the integration of RVV-AE (also known as R-77) air-to-air missiles, along with missiles for anti-ship and anti-radar operations; and several ground/strike precision-guided weapons.
The MiG-29K was not ordered into production and only two prototypes were originally built because the Russian Navy preferred the Su-27K (later re-designated Su-33) in the early 1990s. The Mikoyan Design Bureau did not stop its work on the MiG-29K aircraft despite the lack of financing since 1992. The programme got a boost in the late 1990s to meet an Indian requirement for a ship-borne fighter following the purchase of a former Soviet aircraft carrier, and the MiG-29K was first received by the Indian Naval Air Arm in 2009. The Russian Navy, with their Su-33s nearing the end of their service lives by 2010, has also ordered the MiG-29K as a replacement.

This evening, my little Bugsy is resting comfortably. He has had a very difficult past week. The last Chemo drug played havoc with his system.
He has a few days yet to catch up before Friday, his next treatment. He is happy to be next to me under the lamp and resting - listening to me on the keyboard.
I feel he is better next to me hearing sounds of life rather than resting in another room with the radio on while I am off working. This way he gets to hear the evening news.
And I talk to him and pet his lovely little head. I just love my little Bugs. I am afraid he is becoming very spoiled - I carry him around in his little cat beds (yes, beds) like a baby. And I pray every day that he will live a healthy life and that we will be rid of this awful cancer. He has many more treatments to go......11 months or more.
