Thank you very much for your comments and faves, regretfully, I am finding it increasingly difficult to reply to your comments, because of my very limited time on the internet, due to constant power interruptions in South Africa. I do read and appreciate every one of them! Thanks again!!

Just simple candid street style Snapograph captured at London UK of a person passing by an arch.

"THANK YOU KINDLY" to anyone who finds this shot good enough to put amongst their "FAVES".

The icy waters of the Sound were slowly receding, softly singing a lullaby as it withdrew, "Return to your warm bed and rest your weary head. Only treachery lies ahead, one false move and you will be dead". I replied, "Thank you Winter waters for your song of concern. I will heed your wisdom". I slipped on my cleats and continued past the rocks still covered in moss and mud.

⭐️Thank you in Advance for your kind ‘Faves’ Visits and Comments they are so very much appreciated. 👍

I cannot always ‘Thank’ everyone individually, for their Visits and ‘Faves’ however, I will always try to respond and thank all those that leave a ‘Comment’. If I do not reply to your 'Comment', it is not because I am ignoring you, it's because I have not seen the 'Comment'.

Your 'Comments' do not always appear in 'Notifications' or Flickr mail, so, I am sorry for any delay in responding. Often your 'Comment' is only spotted 'On the Page' on the day, that I see it. (seen ONLY when replying to someone HAS 'Commented' on the image, and I see a notification)

A stubborn Highland Cow stood in the middle of the road at the junction of The Struggle and the Kirkstone Pass right outside the inn.

Window down and a quick shot as we negotiated the hirsute obstruction.

Took 4 attempts and nearly an hour to upload this image and yesterday's was the same. It's become a chore to share or comment on anything. Latest support ticket answer as to why my feed only shows the previous 24hrs images from people I follow and sometimes not at all is there is nothing wrong at their end. If I change the time and date on my computer then it only shows the images from that date, nothing before. They've rebuilt my feed 15 times now. Loading times of my feed are horrendous, the shot details aren't being shown despite knowing I've saved them to be, and it's a lottery if my comments/replies get shown.

It's the same on my pad, phone and desktop. Also appear to have fallen off the 'explore' list too and speaking to others they are having similar problems.

Very disappointing considering I pay for it. Subscription runs out in Sept so I'll have to start a new account and delete 300+ images on this one.

So sorry my Flickr friends, I haven't figured out yet why I cannot reply to your comments although I can comment on your photos. It's got to be something with the cache on my computer, or so my techie friends tell me. Oh , well, until I figure it out, please know I appreciate all your wonderful comments!

Thank you very much everyone for visiting and enjoying the photo, I will reply to everyone as soon as possible.

I reassure the visitors about my photographic equipment, I use digital or analog cameras, filters, neutrals, UV and polarizers, or other self-made gadgets to achieve the effects imagined before the shot.

I also have a tripod, actually more than one, which I use when needed.

I accept any suggestion or constructive criticism, if my images are oscure in meaning, or lack something, feel free to write it in the comments.

Thanks again for your attention ^_^

This photo is so very, very old. I went through my photostream the other day and came across this photo from a very windy day back in february 2010, and I realised I'd never edited all of my favourites.

It's weird how things have changed, I took this photo right before my a-levels that I was so scared of, and now I'm attending university.

I have never experienced such heavy wind again ever since, especially not during sunset.

stuck by this river (click for the video)

by Brian Eno

Here we are

Stuck by this river,

You and I

Underneath a sky that's ever falling down, down, down

Ever falling down.

Through the day

As if on an ocean

Waiting here,

Always failing to remember why we came, came, came:

I wonder why we came.

You talk to me

as if from a distance

And I reply

With impressions chosen from another time, time, time,

From another time.

I may not always get to thank you for every fave or reply to a comment that you might leave here on my image but, just know each comment is read and very much appreciated.

~Too many ups and downs,

And it goes around,

Just spin my head,

Till I’m hitting the ground,

Can I-I-I-I, reply-y-y?

I thought that I might be strong,

Thought that I might belong,

Thought that I had a chance,

Had a strike of luck.

I wanted to be someone,

Wanted to have some fun,

Suddenly all was gone,

Out of my control.

One storm, one beat,

One cold, one heat,

Some show, some leave.

Too many ups and downs,

And it goes around,

Just spin my head,

Till I’m hitting the ground,

Can I-I-I-I, reply-y-y?

Taking a leap of faith,

In the lovers maze,

I spin my mind,

Till I’m reaching the ground,

That’s my-y-y-y, reply-y-y,

There’s words that I couldn’t find,

Times when I couldn’t be right,

Times when you blew my mind

Into outer space,

One storm, one beat,

One cold, one heat,

Some show, some leave.

Too many ups and downs,

And it goes around,

Just spin my head,

Till I’m hitting the ground,

Can I-I-I-I, reply-y-y?

Taking a leap of faith,

In the lovers maze,

I spin my mind,

Till I’m reaching the ground,

That’s my-y-y-y, reply-y-y.

Thinking about where we’ve been,

Thinking about what we’ve done,

Couldn’t we manage to hold on?

Too many ups and downs,

And it goes around,

Just spin my head,

Till I’m hitting the ground,

Can I-I-I-I, reply-y-y?

Too many ups and downs,

And it goes around,

Just spin my head,

Till I’m hitting the ground,

Can I-I-I-I, reply-y-y?

Taking a leap of faith,

In the lovers maze,

I spin my mind,

Till I’m reaching the ground,

That’s my-y-y-y, reply-y-y,

I shot this portrait of Mouse in very harsh lighting; she was sitting in direct sunshine with half her face in the shadows, but I liked the dramatic effect that the not-so-ideal lighting gave the portrait.

She looks like someone who would be asked "Gee, Brain, what do you want to do tonight?" and of course, she would reply with "Same thing we do every night Pinky, try to take over the world."

Of course.

Anyway; on the mend today. Still not 100% but feeling so much better than I was on Wednesday and better than I was yesterday, so this gives me hope that the weekend will be smooth sailing!

Hope everyone has had a good day.

I was asked to shoot a family wedding in 2017, I replied it would be a pleasure and agreed to do it.

It was my 4th wedding I have done but my 1st official wedding shoot.

It is very hard work, intense and stressful but also really satisfying.

The location was at a beautiful setting in the English countryside at Green farm in Shadoxhurst in Kent.

It was a very special experience and a

wonderful day that I will always treasure.

I asked her what was her dream, she replied:

"In the future I want to have a car because when there is an emergency, we just go by feet., or you have to wait a long time and they need ask for a payment. When i have a car i can go free"

Surma or Suri (as they call themselves) are sedentary pastoral people living in south west of Ethiopia, on the western bank of the Omo river. These breeders tribal groups have a cattle-centred culture. They breed their cattle, mostly cows, on their traditional lands, located in the Omo Valley. The economy of the Suri is based on breeding and agriculture. They grow cabbage, beans, yams, tobacco and coffee. Cows are tremendously important in Suri culture. They do not see cattle simply as a material asset but as a life-sustaining and meaningful companion. Suri even sing songs for them and make fires to warm them. These cows are not bred for their meat and are usually not killed unless they are needed for ceremonial purposes. The Surmas very rarely eat the meat of their cows, they actually breed them for their milk and their blood, which they both drink. Cows also have a social and symbolic meaning in Suri’s society. Suri men are judged on how much cattle they own. In desperate times, Suri men can risk their lives to steal cattle from other tribes. The average male in the Suri tribe owns from 30 to 40 cows. Every young male is named after their cattle, which they have to look after since the age of 8. Men are not allowed to marry until they own 60 cows. Cows are given to the bride’s family after the wedding ceremony.

This central role of the cow in their way of life accounts for the fierce independance they want to preserve and explains their warlike culture. Indeed, it’s quite common to see men and even women carrying weapons which are part of the daily life. Their remote homeland has always been a place of traditional rivalries with the neighbouring tribes such as the Bume (Nyangatom) or the Toposa. who regurlarly team up to raid the Suri’s cattle. These fights, and even sometimes battles, have become quite bloody since automatic firearms like AK-47 have become available from the parties in the Sudanese Civil War. This conflict has pushed neighboring tribes into Suri’s land and is a constant competition to keep and protect their territory and their cattle. Gun battles are more common during the dry season, because around that time the Suri move their cattle down south to find new ground.

The 40 to 1,000 inhabitants villages of the Surmas, are led by a ritual chief known as the Komoru, dressed in colourful robes and wearing a crown of baboon fur. Village life is largely communal, sharing the produce of the cattle (milk and blood). Decisions of the village are taken by the men in an assembly. These debates are led by the Komoru, who are merely the most respected elder in a village even if they can be removed.

Although their traditional remoteness and autarky is threathened, only few Surma are familiar with Amharic, the official language of Ethiopia, and their literacy level is very low.

Main story

There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.

One, to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.

The other, to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days, staring at the shine

quietly.

Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.

I face myself to change tomorrow, a vague day into something certain.

That is the meaning of a rebirth.

I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.

After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After

she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies

until I realized it is love?

I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the

daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.

I had been thinking about such a thing.

However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see

something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable

tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.

Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

4 works are materials and silhouettes. Similar to fashion.

5 Who is your favorite artist? What is it? Make it clear.

6 Creating a collage is exactly the same as taking photos. As I wrote in the interview, it is the same as writing a novel.

7 I want to show it to someone, but I do not make a piece to show it. Aim for the work you want to decorate your own room as in the photo.

Explanation of composition. 2

I used the following cameras.

Nikon coolpix 8700

I defeated two of these cameras.

It was a very nice camera.

I took many photos with this camera.

Today's photo.

It was also taken with this camera.

I explained the composition in detail in the text at the time of shooting.

I have taken a lot of pictures until today.

Among them, this photo is the result of sharpening my sensitivity.

I will explain this composition in a video.

But they are all Japanese.

Is there a Japanese beside you?

Is there anyone who can understand Japanese beside you?

Please have them translate.

I leave an important story about composition.

I hope they will reach many people.

October 22, 2019, midnight.

Today's photo.

It is a photo taken from Eurostar.

This video is an explanation.

I went to Milan in 2005.

At that time, I went from Milan to Venice.

We took Eurostar into the transportation.

This photo was not taken from a very fast Eurostar.

When I changed the track, I took a picture at the moment I slowed down.

Is there a Japanese beside you?

Please have my video translated.

Nikon coolpix 8700

Many folks ask me how I manage to get this close to a copperhead snake. My reply: “That’s not a copperhead.” Their reply: “You speak with forked tongue!” My reply: “Well, no, but this fella does.” I respect snakes, but I have no fear of them, largely because my mom did have an unreasonable fear of all things scaly. Fear usually results from lack of knowledge. I’ve studied them throughout the years… I can easily identify most any snake indigenous to the southern United States and I understand their behavior. Apart from a few aggressive snakes, most snakes would never bother you unless you bother them. Saying that, I do realize that I’ve been chased from many a good fishing hole in Florida and Georgia by some ill-tempered water moccasins… it’s better to find another spot than to be bitten by those critters. I’ve had better encounters with alligators than I’ve had with water moccasins that often showed me how they got their other moniker, the cottonmouth, as they let me know how displeased they were with my proximity… and I was usually there first!

This is not a copperhead, but rather a northern water snake. It is banded with similar colors of a copperhead, but the copperhead is mottled rather than banded. It also has a round pupil as opposed to the copperhead’s vertical pupil, much like a cat’s eye. It also doesn’t have the broad head of a pit viper, as does the copperhead. Though the northern water snake is essentially harmless to people, it does have teeth and will bite if threatened, so it’s best to just leave them alone.

The banding of water snakes is excellent camouflage in the dappled light of its watery domain, though not all are banded. The color scheme of copperheads makes them nearly invisible this time of year amongst fallen leaves. The North Carolina coast is the perfect habitat for many venomous snakes such as canebrakes, diamondback rattlers, moccasins, and coral snakes. The North Carolina mountains is a great environment for both timber and diamondback rattlers, as well as copperheads. Durham, situated between the uplands and the coastal plains in a geomorphic area defined as a fall line, has only one species of venomous snake… the copperhead. While it may be the only pit viper in the area, there are a lot of them, so it’s not unusual to come across them… you need to be extra vigilant this time of year.

Once upon a time, I lived on a farm not far away in Mebane. A brilliant maple had already shed a blanket of colorful leaves across the yard one beautiful fall day. I admired that as I inspected my grill… it would be used later that day for dinner with friends. As I turned to go back to the cabin for cleaning supplies, I heard more than saw movement near my feet… it was one of the biggest copperheads I’d ever seen in the wild. It was beautiful and blended easily with the fallen leaves. Under normal circumstances, I’d have just attempted to chase it off to the fields where it could be happy chasing the myriad of mice there… that would make me happy, too, as I had worse incidents with mice than I had with snakes. With so many places to hide, including beneath the leaves, however, I thought it better to dispatch this rascal than for it to be a problem for my guests. I eased around it and went for my rifle. As I’d figured, it wasn’t where I left it when I returned. I scanned for it and moved carefully toward the tree. I must have stood in the last spot for ten minutes before I finally saw it raised up out of the leaves not more than eight feet from me, watching my every move… again, I believe it was the slight movement of its head rather than the shape that caught my eye. I knew what I was looking for, yet it was so difficult to see in the leaves. That made me realize that even your utmost attentiveness may not be enough, so walk a clear path in the woods and wear better footgear than sandals and flipflops. Heat-seeking pit vipers would easily target that.

For those of you who wonder about my fascination of creatures that my mother so feared, here’s how that happened: the first movie I remember seeing was Tarzan's Desert Mystery, starring Johnny Weissmuller as Tarzan. It was a classic black & white movie, but that didn't matter, as our brand-new TV back in that day was black & white too. That was around 1960, and it made an impression on the five-year-old me. I WAS Tarzan! In that movie, Jane is away, doing her part as a nurse in the war effort, while Tarzan and Boy do their part in retrieving rare medicinal herbs for the Allies, but their efforts are hindered by the strange flora and fauna of the mysterious desert, two such creatures something totally new to me... dinosaurs! Or a reasonable facsimile for back in the day. They were actually an iguana and a monitor lizard (dressed in "dinosaur" movie makeup), shot closeup while tussling with each other to look like big monsters on the silver screens of 1943. As is the way of the military, we moved around a lot, and shortly thereafter we lived in a place in California with a canal nearby... with pilings... where iguanas sunned themselves... and I was going have myself a dinosaur. For some reason, I was pulling my baby brother along with me in a little red wagon, perhaps to throw my mother off as to my true intentions... to sneak up on a huge snoozing lizard and wrestle it to submission. I did exactly that, though it turns out they're quite alert even when they appear not to be... after a bit of struggle, I securely snugged one up under my arm with a grip on its throat to keep it from biting me, and then made my way back home with my brother in tow. My mom opened the door for me as I kicked it… I was busy with a huge snapping lizard in one hand and holding onto my brother with the other hand.

What I remember most after that was my mom's face contorting to accommodate the hair-raising scream she loosed on me... and then she slammed the door on me. I don't know what my brother thought about that, but his hair hasn't been the same since. I was a little older and more used to such situations. Even so, I couldn’t understand what the big deal was that caused such a reaction. She had apparently called my dad with concern to an emergency at home... he showed up shortly afterward. In ways that truly good dads do, he explained reality to me without shooting my youthful enthusiasm down in flames... I could either live with the iguana, that would never love me, or with my momma who fed and cared for me... but, as she had a fear of reptiles, I couldn't live with both... and then he added that she needed me to keep such critters away. I've always been a sucker for those in need... what else could I do? Even Tarzan kept those pesky lions and crocodiles at bay. While Tarzan is a fictional character, the impression I had was that he didn’t fear animals. Rather, he realized that this is their world, too, and he respected and understood them. About eleven years later, I met Johnny Weissmuller, and a very old and blind Cheetah (the chimpanzee), in Titusville, Florida. I told him that he had gotten me into trouble... he laughed.

By the way, are you experiencing problems with the Flickr map? It seems to be fascinated with the All Star Mobile Home Park, as this isn't the first time it's made note of it. This was taken at Yates Mill Park in Raleigh. I know. I was there.

Wickham Place is the London home of Lord and Lady Southgate, their children and staff. Located in fashionable Belgravia it is a fine Georgian terrace house.

Today we are below stairs in the Wickham Place kitchen which is usually a place of happiness and harmony, but today Mrs. Bradley, known by most downstairs staff as Cook, is in a foul mood as she bangs her copper pots about on the kitchen range with a violence not often seen.

In the corridor outside the kitchen, Mr. Withers the Butler catches a couple of the Wickham Place housemaids skulking about doing nothing.

“What are you doing standing about here, cluttering the area?” he demands of them.

“We’re on a break, Mr. Withers, sir.” replies Sara unapologetically.

“Then why aren’t you in the servant’s hall, girl?” he asks sharply.

“Can’t get there, sir.” Sara replies with a shrug of her shoulders.

“Don’t be insolent girl!” Mr. Withers snaps. “What rubbish! Of course you can! It’s just on the other side of the kitchen.”

“I’m not game to go in there. Are you Tilly?” Sara asks her fellow housemaid.

“Not me, Sara!” she replies, shaking her head and putting up both her hands defensively.

It’s then that Mr. Withers hears for the first time the crash of metal against metal as pots and pans are bashed about with what appears to be some vehemence. Occasionally over the clattering noise, he thinks he hears the sob of a girl.

“Cook’s in a foul mood,” Tilly continues. “And we’ll not go in there, sir. Not for love, nor money!”

Sara nods in agreement.

“We’ll soon see about this.” Mr. Withers replies as he steels himself and marches through the kitchen door.

Cook is standing with her back to the room as she stirs something violently in a pot on the great black kitchen range, banging her wooden spoon angrily on its lip. Sitting as far from Cook as she can, Agnes the scullery maid is weeping over some big Seville oranges as she cuts them into thin slivers with a knife.

“Agnes.” Mr. Withers says when he sees her tears. “Whatever is wrong?”

“Oh,” she sobs. “Mrs. Bradley’s in a foul mood, and she set me to juicing and slicing oranges, and the juice is stinging my hands.” She holds out her careworn hands, the juice covering them and seeping into the cracks in the skin on her palms and fingers.

“Got time to gab have you, you ungrateful good-for-nothing?” Mrs. Bradly spins around with her hands on her hips, her ordinarily cheerful face as black as thunder as she glares at Agnes.

“Oh! Oh, I only meant…” but the words catch in her throat as Cook’s eyebrows arch ever so slightly higher over her angry eyes. “No, Mrs. Bradley.” She busies herself, head down, continuing to slice the oranges into thin slivers.

“Now! Now! What’s this Mrs. Bradley?” Mr. Withers asks. “This isn’t like you: upsetting a poor girl and banging the pots so loudly the Master and Mistress can hear you upstairs.”

“And a good thing too if Her High-and-Mightiness does hear me!”

“Mrs. Bradley!” Mr. Withers looks shocked.

“Well, here I am happily preparing the six course French dinner for His Lordship’s guests this evening when she summons me. ‘Just a small change, Cook’, she says all sweetness and light. ‘You’ll have to change the main course. Lord What’s-His-Face doesn’t eat red meat, but I’m sure you’ll come up with a suitable alternative in its place at such short notice. That will be all.’ And she dismisses me with a wave of her lily-white hand!”

“Well, you’re resourceful, Mrs. Bradley.”

“Have you looked at the time, Mr. Withers? His Lordship’s guests will be here in two hours, and I’ve been cooking bœuf à la Bourguignonne all afternoon!” She turns and opens the oven door and pulls out something from within its confines. “So we’ll be eating like kings for servant’s dinner shortly, and tonight they will be having chicken a l’orange instead!” She slams a partially cooked chicken on a tray on the deal table. “If I’d wanted to be a short-order cook, Mr. Withers, I’d have worked at the Café Royal! I’ve a right mind to hand in my notice!” She snatches up the jug of orange juice from in front of her, sloshing some on the table in her anger, and starts pouring it over the chicken.

“You aren’t going to though, are you Mrs. Bradley?” Mr. Withers asks with a worried look on his pale face.

“No, Mr. Withers. I’ve got too much respect for His Lordship than to walk out,” she assures him. “But her!” She raises her wooden spoon to the ceiling above her and shakes it.

“Shall I put the orange silvers on the chicken now, Mrs. Bradley?” Agnes asks meekly.

“Of course girl! I didn’t put it there for you to stare at! Get on with it, quick sticks, or His Lordship will be served a half cooked, inedible chicken, and you’ll be to blame!”

“Yes Mrs. Bradley!”

The Wickham Place kitchens are situated on the ground floor of Wickham Place, adjoining the Butler’s Pantry. It is dominated by big black leaded range, and next to it stands a heavy dark wood dresser that has been there for as long as anyone can remember. There is a white enamelled sink to one side with deep cupboards to house the necessary cleaning agents the scullery maid needs to keep the kitchen clean for the cook. In the middle of the kitchen stands Cook’s preserve, the pine deal table on which she does most of her preparation for both the meals served to the family upstairs and those for the downstairs staff.

This year the FFF+ Group have decided to have a weekly challenge called “Snap Happy”. A different theme chosen by a member of the group each week, and the image is to be posted on the Monday of the week.

This week the theme, “fruit” was chosen by Gary, Gazman_AU. This tableaux is made up of part of my 1:12 size dollhouse miniatures collection. Some pieces come from my own childhood like the ladderback chair in the background. Other items I acquired as an adult through specialist online dealers and artists who specialise in 1:12 miniatures.

Fun things to look for in this tableaux include:

On Cook’s deal table, the Seville oranges, the orange slices, and the roast chicken all 1:12 artisan miniatures with amazing attention to detail. All three come from Beautifully Handmade Miniatures in Kettering, England. The orange slices are so small and so fine. They are cut from long canes like some boiled sweets are but are much smaller in size!

Also, from Beautifully Handmade Miniatures in Kettering is the jug of orange juice which is also a 1:12 artisan miniature. The jug is made of very fine glass, and is half filled with glossy resin that looks exactly like orange juice.

Opposite the jug of orange juice is a Cornishware white and blue cannister. Cornishware is a striped kitchenware brand trademarked to and manufactured by T.G. Green & Co Ltd. Originally introduced in the 1920s and manufactured in Church Gresley, Derbyshire, it was a huge success for the company and in the succeeding 30 years it was exported around the world. The company ceased production in June 2007 when the factory closed under the ownership of parent company, The Tableshop Group. The range was revived in 2009 after T.G. Green was bought by a trio of British investors.

Behind the roast chicken is a jar of Gale’s Honey and a jar of Golden Shred Orange Marmalade. Gale’s Honey has been in existence as a brand in England since the early 1900s, and it still exists to this day. Golden Shred orange marmalade too still exists today and is a common household brand both in Britain and Australia. It is produced by Robertson’s. Robertson\'s Golden Shred recipe perfected since 1874 is a clear and tangy orange marmalade, which according to their modern day jars is “perfect for Paddington’s marmalade sandwiches”. Robertson\'s marmalade dates back to 1874 when Mrs. Robertson started making marmalade in the family grocery shop in Paisley, Scotland.

The sink in the background is littered with interesting items. On the left stands an old fashioned draining board which could be removed so that the space could then be used for other purposes. It is stacked with copper pots and a blue pottery mixing bowl. Near the taps is a box of Sunlight soap and a can of Vim, both cleaning essentials in any Edwardian household. Vim scouring powder was created by William Hesketh Lever (1st Viscount Leverhulme) and introduced to the market in 1904. It was produced at Port Sunlight in Wirrel, Merseyside, a model village built by Lever Brothers for the workers of their factories which produced the popular soap brands Lux, Lifebuoy and Sunlight. Sunlight Soap was first introduced in 1884.

The ladderback chair I have had since I was around eight years old.

To the left of the sink is the food safe with a birchwood broom leaning against it. In the days before refrigeration, or when refrigeration was expensive, perishable foods such as meat, butter, milk and eggs were kept in a food safe. Winter was easier than summer to keep food fresh and butter coolers and shallow bowls of cold water were early ways to keep things like milk and butter cool. A food safe was a wooden cupboard with doors and sides open to the air apart from a covering of fine galvinised wire mesh. This allowed the air to circulate while keeping insects out. There was usually an upper and a lower compartment, normally lined with what was known as American cloth, a fabric with a glazed or varnished wipe-clean surface. Refrigerators, like washing machines were American inventions and were not commonplace in even wealthy upper-class households until well after the Second World War.

“Can we mum” asked the spiders in unison.

“No” replied Mum.

“Oooooh but muuuuuum” whined the spiders in unison.

“No means no” said Mum.

“But all our friends have started blogging” moaned the spiders.

“Listen” said Mum, “you three spend far to much time on the web already!”
