One of the themes for the 2021 Thunder Over Michigan airshow was “Mitchell Madness”. The organizers tried to bring together a number of World War II-era North American B-25 Mitchell bombers. I saw 12 at the performance I attended.
The North American B-25 “Mitchell” was a versatile medium bomber, used by many countries during and after World War II. It was the only type of aircraft to complete bombing missions in all theaters of the war. More than 10,000 were built.
This particular aircraft, “Rosie’s Reply” (N3774), is a combat veteran, having flown eight combat missions during April and May, 1944. According to b-25history.org, this is just one of three surviving B-25s that have flown combat missions. Warbird News also stated in 2013 that this was the only B-25D flying at that time.
The Yankee Air Museum, the organizer of the airshow, owns and operates Rosie’s Reply. Previously the aircraft was named “Yankee Warrior.” In 2021 the Museum changed the name to honor the “amazing women who came together to help win a war while shaping the future of women in the work place.” The Museum also repainted the aircraft with the livery and markings it wore around 1943.
North American Aviation built this B-25D-35-NC in Kansas City, Kansas in 1943. She was assigned to the 12th AF 57th Bomb Wing, 340th Bomber Group and based in Corsica during April and May, 1944. Later that year, she was transferred to the Royal Air Force and assigned to the Royal Canadian Air Force to support training. After a variety of roles with the RCAF, she was sold to a private owner in 1962. After a series of owners, the aircraft was sold to the Yankee Air Force in 1988.

While Magic 8-Ball did not exist in its current form until 1950, the functional component was invented by Albert C. Carter, who was inspired by a "spirit writing" device used by his mother, Mary, a Cincinnati clairvoyant. When store owner Max Levinson was approached by Carter about stocking the device, he called in his brother-in-law Abe Bookman, a graduate of Ohio Mechanics Institute. In 1944, Carter filed patent for his device, assigning it to Bookman, Levinson, and another partner in what came to be Alabe Crafts, Inc. (Albert & Abe) in 1946. Under the Alabe name, they marketed and sold the device as The Syco-Seer. Carter, who, according to Bookman, was an alcoholic, died sometime before the patent was granted in 1948. Bookman soon made improvements to the Syco-Seer and in 1948, it was encased in an iridescent crystal ball. Though unsuccessful, the revamped product caught the attention of Chicago's Brunswick Billiards. In 1950 they commissioned Alabe Crafts to make a version in the form of a
traditional black & white 8-ball.

Well, here is another in my [occasional series on containers](http://www.jezblog.com/index.php?showimage=1316) ........ Containers....... [For shipping and world trade](http://www.jezblog.com/index.php?showimage=1231&PHPSESSID=253e73527f577b8f5f3d5c19047cb3a1&reply_to=47309&PHPSESSID=253e73527f577b8f5f3d5c19047cb3a1)......... but right now Im really thinking of the containers.......... Yeah the actual containers themselves...... and what's in them...... if any of it could keep or would be worth keeping for a very long time........
Today I went to the [British Museum to see an amazing exhibition of 'The Book of the Dead'](http://www.britishmuseum.org/whats_on/all_current_exhibitions/book_of_the_dead.aspx) . Really it is looking at the religion of Ancient Egypt. The beliefs and spells to guide the dead of their time into the life everlasting........ Into the 'Field of Reeds'.
"The Field of Reeds. The God who is in it is Ra.
The very high mountain.
The Mound of transfigured spirits.
The Mound of Wenet. The god who is in it is the Destroyers of Souls.
The river of flaming fire.
The Mound of Kheraha. The god who is in it is Hapi."
(spell 150 names of the mounds of the Netherworld)
The book of the dead took the form of hundreds of spells written to protect and guide the spirit through the tests that they must pass to make it into eternal life and the prospect of riding with the Sun God Ra on his boat each day as he rode across the skies.
It's amazing that 3000 year old bits of papyrus survive to this day and are on display to pass on all that was sacred to the ancient Egyptians. Hey that in itself is a pretty amazing testament to the way they preserved their dead and the containers they buried them in ...... as each individuals book of the dead was buried with its deceased owner........ Often they almost clutched it ........ Mummified in it in their sarcophagus.
I don't know if any of our religious texts will stand a reading in 3000 years time......... or need to be stuck on to embalmed corpses......... and I wonder what of our civilization of now will still survive to be marveled at in a distant future.
I don't know what could, should or would survive. But Im not sure any of the stuff in these containers is it................
I'm not sure where you would put anything you wanted to keep....... something you wanted to be presented to the world in 3000 years from now........ maybe on the internet..........??????
Although Harv must be working on a pretty amazing series of catacombs under his house........ As today he tells me he unearthed an unopened box of........ :
"This is a FULL BOX of SEALED Agfa Record Rapid (50 sheets), a paper considered to be one of the best ever made.
Agfa stopped production of this paper in the 90's, it has acquired cult status as being 'state of the art' exhibition paper.
The box is factory sealed, unopened, undamaged and was safely stored in cool dark conditions. (see pictures)
This is a very rare opportunity, I doubt you'll see an unopened box again as they are simply not available anywhere.
Much of my portfolio is printed on this paper, if I still had a darkroom I'd keep it but I switched to digital years ago."
The like of such a valuable and rare find ........ can only be dug from ancient protected places........ Protected from the desert sun and away from grave robbers and sand vipers............ Yes it can only be found in ancient hidden rare places.......... er.......... or otherwise you can bid for it on ebay ........ hehehehehehehe.......... :

Al via il primo “Social Media Tour”,
perché Internet fa davvero bene all’Italia.
di eventi dedicati all’esplosivo fenomeno
dei “social media”, organizzato da Augmendy (nuova realtà specializzata nel mondo dei social media ) in collaborazione con BTO University ( una nuova idea che parte dall'esperienza di chi ha organizzato BTO – Buy Tourism Online '09 ).

"You look like such a fine man. May I take your picture?"
"Oh, why yes," he replied. "I've been watching you guys and was brought back to when I was your age."
I took the photo and thanked him. "I will remember this moment for a long time" he said.
We had a salesman fly in to visit us last week. We've been working for almost a year to evaluate his firm's product and it was getting close to the deal. He turned up with what seemed like another of his bad colds. You know the sort of thing - coughing, sneezing, runny nose and looking generally miserable. The full package.
He calls me up the next day and asks if I'd noticed that he'd looked really bad at one point. Being the naturally observant chap that I am, I reply "no". "Oh well", he says, "I had a bad case of the flu and was nearly fainting".
Now, thanks to my upbringing, I'm as willing as the next person to resort to the wonders of modern medicine. A few days later I got out the good old Hg thermometer (did anyone else get to play with drops of mercury during school chemistry lessons? We did) to see if I was having a good time or not. Not a sausage, not even a hint of man flu.
To tell you the truth, I dug it out of the medicine chest with the idea of helping out with Corinne's 1-40 number project. It turns out she doesn't need 35-40 so I'm stuck with this shot. Do you know how difficult it is to aim a macro at oneself? Having a DoF of about 3mm doesn't help either.

(Poem #153) Abou Ben Adhem
Abou Ben Adhem (may his tribe increase!)
Awoke one night from a deep dream of peace,
And saw, within the moonlight in his room,
Making it rich, and like a lily in bloom,
An Angel writing in a book of gold:
Exceeding peace had made Ben Adhem bold,
And to the Presence in the room he said,
"What writest thou?" The Vision raised its head,
And with a look made of all sweet accord
Answered, "The names of those who love the Lord."
"And is mine one?" said Abou. "Nay, not so,"
Replied the Angel. Abou spoke more low,
But cheerily still; and said, "I pray thee, then,
Write me as one who loves his fellow men."
The Angel wrote, and vanished. The next night
It came again with a great wakening light,
And showed the names whom love of God had blessed,
And, lo! Ben Adhem's name led all the rest!

There are ceremonies even in the smallest chess tournaments in the Phlippines. A prayer, singing of the national anthem, a speech and a ceremonial opening move. For some reason they chose me to make Black's opening reply.

BACKSTORY: While we were hanging out, Chris Z started playing with Carolyn's phone and took a few pics.

In the 1970s, when I used to stay at my Grandparent's house when my Mum and Dad went disco dancing, or whatever they called it before disco dancing was a thing, there was a TV series they used to watch called "How Green was my Valley". I remember little of it, except Granddad saying the valley was go green because of all the rain.
So, on Sunday, the rain was due to fall in the valleys, the hills and all else between.
What to do when we had come away without coats and umbrella?
Churchcrawling.
And thanks to the Church Conservation Trust, you ban fairly reply on those under their care to be open. I made a list of their churches in Shropshire, and after breakfast we set off for the first one, passing through the village of Knockin.
I kid ye not.
Where the village shop is called, of course, The Knockin Shop.
I also kid ye not.
Rain fell, roads were nearly flooded, so we splish-splashed our way across the county, down valley and up hills until we came to the entrance of an estate.
Here be a church.
Not sure if we could drive to it, I got out and walked, getting damp as the rain fell through the trees.
But the church was there, and open, if poorly lit inside. And I was able to get shots before walking up the hill to the car.
Two more churches tried, but they were locked and no keyholder about. So onto Wroxter, where a large and imposing church towered over the road. And to get there we passed through a former Roman settlement from which the modern town too its name. Most impressive was a reconstruction of a villa.
But we did not stop.
The church was open, light and airy even on a gloomy and wet day. I got loads of shots, especially of the fine tombs.
The final church was one not under the CCC, but one I had seen shots of online earlier in the week.
It took half an hour to drive to Diddlebury.
I kid ye not. Again.
And up the hill was the church, with a huge squat Saxon, or early Norman tower, and insode both the north and west walls were Saxon, with the north wall being made of dressed stone laid in a herringbone style.
It is an incredible survivor, and glad that I made the effort to come, as the church is amazing.
-------------------------------------------
St. Peter’s church, known by this dedication since at least 1322, is one of four churches in Shropshire with substantial Anglo-Saxon remains. The original building consisted of a nave with a west tower which was subsequently rebuilt in Norman times. The north wall, with its characteristic small double-splayed window and blocked door is the most visible surviving feature and dates from the eleventh century. The combination of dressed square ashlar masonry on the outside with herringbone work on the interior is most unusual, and has been the subject of much academic controversy.
Other Anglo-Saxon work includes some herringbone work in the North West corner, and fragments of sculpture, one of which predates the building by a century.
The chancel was added in the twelfth century, and some of the original windows survive. The tower was rebuilt in Norman times, and the later buttresses show that the structure had been unstable from an early date. The large blocked western arch is unusual, and its original purpose is unclear. The tower also features animal heads on the west face, and two sheila-na-gigs (obscene female figures) on the south side.
The south aisle originally dated from the fourteenth century, but was rebuilt in 1860. Inside the church, few furnishings survived Nicholson’s restoration in 1883, but the Royal Arms of William III on the west wall, painted in 1700, are worthy of note, as are the Jacobean corbels retained when the old ceiling was replaced in 1860.
Monuments in the church are mostly small mural tablets commemorating local gentry families of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Note the two
fourteenth century tomb recesses in the chancel, one of which contains a later heraldic brass to Charles Baldwyn (1674), and also the small brass high on the north wall of the Vestry (formerly the Baldwyn family aisle of 1609). This commemorates Thomas Baldwyn (1614), who had earlier been imprisoned in the Tower of London for involvement with Mary Queen of Scots. There is good Victorian glass in the chancel.

11He replied, "The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. 12Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. 13This is why I speak to them in parables:
"Though seeing, they do not see;
though hearing, they do not hear or understand. 14In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah:
" 'You will be ever hearing but never understanding;
you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.
15For this people's heart has become calloused;
they hardly hear with their ears,
and they have closed their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
hear with their ears,
understand with their hearts
and turn, and I would heal them.'[a] 16But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. 17For I tell you the truth, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.

In West Africa, Ghana corruption and racism are higher than mountains. No human rights for whites. We cannot have freedom today, because of need wait all life for the response of officials and they corrupted in Ghana UNHCR (sold our UN's pleas). Local politicians use our case, became dirty, bribed, keeping us with their unjust. We alarm - no reply, because of racists hate Britain. We have free choices of North-South - property robbed since 1993/1996. My Mother/my child and I became political asylum seekers since 2006, had attempted to leave for safety to the UK. Smuggled whites to Ghana unable to win Liberty without International solicitors. My Mother's murderer buys his country's citizens (lawyers/police/politicians). My son's schooling ended in his 5 years old with death threats/racism/violence against us white foreigners. We are passing through the valleys of death in slow motions. Forced marriage equals to the Islamic State of Ghana. We have no life in a jungle of injustice. Meanwhile, we are cherishing our dreams of future of freedom from tortures.

Letterpress wedding invitation suite for Lei & Justin. Lei was born in China, and wanted to incorporate some Chinese characters to honor her lineage. So, we included the characters for her name, and we included the traditional double-happy image, almost as a seal on the invitation. There's a pretty evident height difference between L & J, and they thought it'd be fun to call attention to it in the illustration on the reply card. Printed 2/0 on lettra pearl and WNP's opal envelopes.
Jersey Shore Fightin’ Texas Aggie Ring had about 6 or 7 extra large Georgia and California yellow sweet onions that he wanted to use up. We’d already made two pots of jambalaya the previous week so Aggie Ring said, “Let’s just caramelize them and we can freeze most of them after they cool down.”
Aggie Ring instructed me to peel and slice all of the onions at the same thickness. When he was inspecting the sliced onion, Aggie Ring started to cry. “Are you crying little Aggie Ring?” I asked, “No!” Aggie Ring sobbed. “Something must have gotten into my eye. I’ll be fine.” I told Aggie Ring, “Funny, could have fooled me. It looks like you’re crying like a little bitch.” “Listen!” said Aggie Ring. “I SAID that something must have gotten into my eye. Now slice more onions dumbass.”
After all of the onions were sliced, Aggie Ring said, “You know, I want to use the cast iron pot for this. It distributes the heat better than the stainless steel one. Aggie Ring had me pre-heat the cast iron dutch oven and told me to get a stick of butter. “Butter,” said Aggie Ring. “It’s the only way to properly caramelize onions the right way.”
Once the butter was melted and bubbling, Aggie Ring couldn’t help himself and took a dive into the pot. “Hey!” said Aggie Ring, “What’s better than a Aggie Ring in Shiner Bock?” I hesitated a moment and Aggie Ring yelled out over the noise from the hot, bubbling butter, “That’s right! There’s nothing like a hot buttered Aggie Ring. Now, get me out of here and lick me off. I know you want to. Just don’t swallow me.” said Aggie Ring.
Aggie Ring started out this batch of onions with the 5-quart dutch oven filled up to the top. After about an hour they had reduced by about half their volume. This wasn’t good enough for Aggie Ring. He jumped into the pot and started screaming at the onions, “I told you bitches to caramelize. Now get working on it. Release those sugars I know that you have inside of you and brown for me.”
I asked Aggie Ring, “Weren’t you a bit harsh with the onions?” Aggie Ring replied, “I’m a busy Aggie Ring with things to do and places to go. I can’t be waiting around all afternoon for some lazy Georgia onions to brown.”
The onions must have been listening to Aggie Ring because, eventually, they turned a deep caramel color when they had reduced to about a quarter of their original volume. Aggie Ring told me, “Try them…” I got a fork out and tried some of them. Aggie Ring was right, the caramelized onions were as sweet as candy. They will make a fine topping on some soup or green beans. Perhaps, even as a side.

For 24 hours from 5.00am this morning, Thursday 14 October, Greater Manchester Police will be publishing details of every incident that it deals with on Twitter to allow the public to see what officers at one of the largest UK forces face on a daily basis.
Chief Constable Peter Fahy wants to show the public the complexities of modern policing, which often aren’t fully appreciated.
This comes as police face unprecedented budget cuts, putting them under even more pressure to deliver an effective policing service.
Chief Constable Fahy said: “Policing is often seen in very simple terms, with cops chasing robbers and locking them up. However the reality is that this accounts for only part of the work they have to deal with.
“A lot of what we do is dealing with social problems such as missing children, people with mental health problems and domestic abuse. Often these incidents can be incredibly complex and need a lot of time, resource and expertise.
“I am not saying that we shouldn’t deal with these types of incidents, far from it, but what I am saying is that this work is not recognised in league tables and measurements – yet is a huge part of what we do.
“I think that it’s time to start measuring performance in a different way. There needs to be more focus on how the public sector as a whole is working together to tackle society’s issues and problems.
“We see time and again the same families, the same areas and the same individuals causing the same problems and these people are causing a considerable drain to the public purse.
“Instead of the public sector organisations having separate pots of money we could spend it more efficiently it were one big pot. This could be achieved by working together more effectively, by joining up and sharing the responsibility of the issues that we are all dealing with.”

We shouldn't have to say please but when one sends a message via e-mail or other communication, isn't itwonderful if someone takes that small amount of time to reply?
Imagine how much nicer this world would be if people replied to an e-mail, voice mail or even a simple, direct non-threatening question.
