Having spent as cold a bivouac as I can remember, a series of warming up exercises were necessary in order not to become totally ineffective at operating a camera. Star jumps, press ups, shadow boxing & other random rapid movements restored blood flow & saw off any pesky sheep intent on 'photo-bombing' Angle Tarn. Even the ravens were eyeing me suspiciously.

I was originally enrolled into the GETTY IMAGES collection as a contributor on April 9th 2012, and when links with FLICKR were terminated in March 2014, I was retained and fortunate enough to be signed up via a second contract, both of which have proved to be successful with sales of my photographs all over the world now handled exclusively by them.
On November 12th 2015 GETTY IMAGES unveiled plans for a new stills upload platform called ESP (Enterprise Submission Platform), to replace the existing 'Moment portal', and on November 13th I was invited to Beta test the new system prior to it being officially rolled out in December. ESP went live on Tuesday December 15th 2015 and has smoothed out the upload process considerably.
These days I take a far more leisurely approach to my photographic exploits, and having moved from professional Nikon equipment to consumer bodies and lenses, I travel light less constraints and more emphasis on the pure capture of the beauty that I see, more akin to my original persuits and goals some five decades previously when starting out. I would like to say a huge and heartfelt 'THANK YOU' to GETTY IMAGES, and the 22.893+ Million visitors to my FLICKR site.

**** This frame was chosen on August 7th 2018 to appear on FLICKR EXPLORE (Highest Ranking: #80. This is my 103rd photograph to be selected, which for me is both amazing and exciting, as I never view my images as worthy compared to some of the awesome photography out there. EXPLORE is Flickr's way of showcasing the most interesting photos within a given point in time -- usually over a 24 hour period.
Flickr receives about 6,000 uploads every minute -- That's about 8.6 million photos a day! From this huge group of images, the Flickr Interestingness algorithm chooses only 500 images to showcase for each 24-hour period. That's only one image in every 17,000!..... so I am really thrilled to have a frame picked and most grateful to every one of the 17.950 Million people who have visited, favourite and commented on this and all of my other photographs here on my FLICKR site. *****

Continuing the series from Thanksgiving weekend, 1994...a D&H local returns to Kenwood Yard behind a CP GP9u running long hood forward. The location is milepost A1 on Canadian Pacific's Colonie Main Line, formerly Delaware & Hudson's Third Subdivision. I remember those triangular "Signal Territory Starts" signs and assume they dated back to the installation of CTC by the D&H. I believe the "Safety pays..." sign was installed after CP took over. Those two signs and the milepost have all since been removed or replaced.

The stairs replace the street in the location of Mozart Street on the west side of Hermann, Missouri just below St. George Catholic Church, due to the steep hillside. The house, with multiple porches and a turret (and a pyramid roof outhouse on the west side) was built by local physician W.C. Wessel in 1917.
The first Bridgeton covered bridge was a double-span Burr Arch bridge built in 1868 by a crew led by J. J. Daniels. It was closed to traffic in 1967. It was built to replace two prior open wooden bridges that had fallen in. After its destruction by fire, it was replaced in 2006 by a reproduction.
First bridge
About 1823, Kockwood and Silliman built the first mill, in the location that would develop a bad reputation and often be referred to as "Sodom", on Big Raccoon Creek. Later, in an attempt to change the town's reputation, the town would become Bridgeton after the earlier bridge. The first mill was owned by Oniel and Wasson and later be bought by James Searing. From 1850 to 1860, James A. Rea would run the mill. In 1862, the mill would change hands to Ralph Sprague and burn down in 1869. James Rea would go on to rebuild the mill in 1871, and Joseph Cole would operate it. Daniel Webster bought it in 1882, and sold it to P.T. Winney in 1889. The mill would not change hands again until June 1914, when George Brake and Fred Mitchell purchased it. According to Mr. Brake, the south half of the dam was built in 1913, with the remaining half finished in 1916. The dam is constructed of concrete and is 225 ft (69 m) long and 9 ft (2.7 m) high.
The first bridge to be built was of open design with wood rails and piers. While crossing the first bridge Owen Wimmer and his family were dropped into the mill pond along with their wagon and team when the bridge fell in. J.H. Kerr and others were able to rescue them. A second bridge of similar construction was erected at the same site. This bridge fell in also just after J.H. Kerr had driven cattle across. The covered bridge was then built in 1868, at the same location, just above the mill dam, with the abutments attached to the dam structure.
Three people submitted bids in 1868, for the contract to build the bridge, these bids would include three different styles of bridges. One bid was from a Mr. Epperson using an Howe Plan for $16,000. Wheelock and McCoy submitted two plans, one was to use a Burr Plan for $17,400 and the second using a Smith Plan for $10,200. Ultimately the bid was awarded to J. J. Daniels and his Burr Plan for $10,200. The "Daniels Portals" were to be later squared off and, after the bridge's closing in 1967, to traffic, benches and steps were added at the portals.
The present mill has been converted to run on electric power. Robert Weis and the Weis Milling Company operated the mill until 1995 when it was purchased by Mike Roe. The current owner has restored the mill and produces over 20 different milled products.
The bridge was destroyed by arson on April 28, 2005. Jesse Payne was taken into custody near the Mansfield Covered Bridge a short time later. He is suspected of burning the Jeffries Ford Covered Bridge also and attempted arson of the Mansfield Covered Bridge. Due to his mental state, he is being detained at the Logansport State Hospital until he is found fit to stand trial.
Second bridge
The second Bridgeton covered bridge was built in 2006 by local citizens and the state of Indiana.

Replacing light seals by yourself is not a big deal. All you will need is some foam rubber (or felt), a blade cutter to cut the sealing materials in stripes; and a thin tool (small screwdriver, a steel pin...) to push the new materials in the grooves. Easy .
To remove the old sticky, crumbling old seals you might gonna need some time, isopropylic alcohol to soften the old seals glue. Ear sticks are very useful too. Cut the soft tips (in order to make them more pointed, so they will fit in the cameras groove. Thats pretty much it ; Good Luck !

Listed in the National Archives of the Smithsonian as one of the most outstanding buildings in the U.S. known for its historic restoration, City Hall in Bay City was built between 1894 and 1897. In 1980, the building was completely restored at a cost of $3.3 million and following a fire in 2010 underwent a $5 million upgrade and rehabilitation. It is one of the finest examples of municipal architecture in the modern Romanesque style to be found in this country and exemplifies one of many outstanding preservation efforts in Bay City.

The 60-ton construction shows a house of cards made of nine concrete play cards and has a scale of thirty five feet high and nineteen and a half feet wide. The construction is literally as big as a house.
The traditional images on the cards are replaced by a selection of historical figures, world leaders and dictators. The selected images and the shape of the cards are being presented as a metaphor for the fragile construction of different political, philosophical and religious views on mankind and worldviews. The used materials and the “concrete walls” then refer to the historical and current political use of walls to ‘shield the indigenous population’ and to protect them for ‘foreign influences’. With these forms, the selected images and the material used, the artwork remind us of the great human suffering that arises from dogma and dictatorship and highlights the need for global cooperation and reconciliation.
You can erase someone from your mind. Getting them out of your heart is another story.

Unfortunately, this grand sign has been replaced with a short brick & plastic thing. Absolutely forgettable, and certainly can't attract the same attention from the road. Shame.
Here's the new crappy sign:
maps.app.goo.gl/JvRBPGen7ui5KYD48
To be fair though, it does look like the sign took multiple hits, probably from trucks in the lot, so perhaps that's why it's gone. (of course, a bigger island around the sign might have saved it)
Have a search here for postcards that show how great this sign and the motel once were: www.ebay.com/itm/235418626752
Vivitar Ultra Wide & Slim + Hybrid Redscaled Konica Minolta VX Super 200 + Double Exposure. (Print first, Redscale 2nd.)
Continuing experiments with redscale... First run through as standard print film mostly around Bristol, Blagdon Lake, & Stanton Drew. The film was then removed from the canister in a dark bag, reversed then replaced in the canister (all still in the dark bag) and shot through as Redscale around Bristol, Weston Super Mare (briefly) & Glastonbury.
I did not line up the film, nor take notes, nor plan the compositions, beyond remembering that the first run through might take up some variety of colour and the second run through might work well with strong lines & silhouettes or textures.
The negatives were returned uncut as requested, but I did get lab scans - any overlaps of one frame over another, are a result of this. I have cropped where I feel it is most helpful to do so, so any inclusion of frame overlap is these uploaded images has been an active choice. I will almost certainly return to the negs with a home scanner to search for alternative compositions to complement these.
Redscaling.
Basically it involves taking a roll of ordinary 'bog standard' print film, reversing it and respooling it into another film canister (all done in a dark bag) so that the light is exposed on 'the wrong side of the film' when you take a shot. You then lose two 'stops' on the optimal exposure conditions from the original. It gets developed in exactly the same way as print film, but be prepared for the technician to be a little startled (at best) or a little irritated (at worst) when they realise that something very odd has happened to the film. :)

'Tip-Toeing' in for a smooth landing...
First flown with the Airbus test registration F-WWKR, this aircraft was delivered to Monarch Airlines as G-SMAN in Mar-99. It was wet-leased to Garuda Indonesia Airlines for a Haj Pilgrimage operation between Oct / Dec-10.
The aircraft was sold to a lessor in May-12 and leased back to Monarch. It operated another Haj Lease to Garuda Indonesia Airlines between Sep / Nov-13. In early 2015 Monarch Airlines decide to withdraw from the long-haul charter marker and the aircraft was stored at Birmingham, UK in Apr-15.
After repainting in NAS National Air Services (Saudi Arabia) livery it was returned to the lessor at the end of Nov-15 and leased to EagleExpress Air Charter (Malaysia) as 9M-AZL. It was wet-leased to NAS the same day.
It was returned to EagleExpress and the lessor as G-GGEN in Jun-16 and was stored at Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). In Feb-17 the aircraft was leased to WAMOS Air as EC-MNY. As well as operating their own flights, WAMOS are a major 'ACMI' operator operating flights for other airlines.
The aircraft was wet-leased to Air Algerie between Jun / Sep-17. Ironically, it was chartered by the UK CAA in early Oct-17 to repatriate Monarch Airlines passengers after they ceased operations.
It was wet-leased to Biman Bangladesh Airlines between Jan / Feb-18, LATAM Airlines - Chile between Mar / Aug-18 and Norwegian Air UK between Sep-18 / Jan-19. WAMOS also operated a Haj Pilgrimage wet-lease for Garuda Indonesia between Jul / Sep-19.
After 22 years in service, the aircraft was permanently retired at Kansas City, MO, USA in Jan-21. Updated 13-Nov-22.

I shot this picture during my workshop in Toronto. We had a bit of fun (okay, a TON of fun) throwing flour and baby powder all over the model. I only got 3 shots from it, as it should be given that I was teaching, but I was morning the fact that the shots were looking aaamazing and I wanted one. So later on I took what I had, which really was just to demo the scene, and I decided to look at it in a unique way. I decided to edit the picture to be drastically different from what it looked like in my camera and I came out with something that I'm proud of.
Model is Richelle Coomey.

So, betcha didn't think I'd come back to this, huh. Ngl, I didn't think I would either, but, well, here we are. Switched over to mecabricks for these, just cos I seem to have the teensiest bit of an addiction to it. So, the Clone war continues, now entering its fifth year. The Galaxy is more divided than ever, and this year is a turning point. The Republic is changing, becoming more like an Empire. With each passing day, the Supreme Chancellor becomes more powerful, tightening his grasp on the galaxy. So, let's delve into the forces at play (L to R):
Senate guards - They don't really impact the story too much, just needed something to edge the main figs. Really happy with how they came out, really like the helmets. They do have faces, so I imagine they would play a role, if only minor. They serve the Supreme Chancellor as body guards, though they are slowly being phased out, replaced by new guards with crimson robes.
Aayla Secura - Won't lie, she doesn't really need to be here. She remained with the jedi faction still loyal to the Republic, leading its troops into battle. Maybe she felt obligated due to her loyalty to her troops, or perhaps her respect for Master Skywalker, who also remained.
The first Sister - A dark and mysterious new player in the war, the first sister moves covertly, like a shadow in the night. Her identity is a mystery, though there are rumours. Most likely, she is a fallen jedi, though which one is disputed. On an unrelated note, Barriss Offee's cell is empty, the former Jedi knight transfered to a more secure prison, though which one is unknown.
Anakin Skywalker - An attempted assassination of the Supreme chancellor by the rebellion (I'll come back to this) left Skywalker grievously wounded. Luckily, thanks to cutting edge Republic medicine and technology, he is rebuilt, stronger than ever, even if it came at a price. with burns covering almost his entire body, he is almost permanently encased in a dark suit, reflecting his inner self more and more. He's angrier too, often brutal in battle. there are rumours among the clones that his eyes turn yellow in battle, and a shadow seems to envelope him as he fights. The war has changed Skywalker, most likely for the worse.
Supreme Chancellor Palpatine -
Though the attempt on his life has left him scarred, his loyalty to the Republic is unwavering. Public support only rose after he survived his brush with death, and he continues to be a very popular leader. He holds all the strings, and has no intention of letting them go, as long as he draws breath.
Admiral Thrawn - After his encounter with Skywalker on Batuu, Thrawn decided to accompany him back to coruscant, even if only to assess the state of the Republic for potential alliance with the Chiss ascendancy. Although he found it in an unacceptable state of corruption and greed, he saw potential. Its military showed promise, the clone army was enticing to say the least. He was entered into the Republic naval academy, and fast tracked to admiralty in just three years. Given his own fleet and flagship, The Chimaera, Thrawn is determined to reforge the Republic Navy, becoming its leader. Some say he even has machinations on the seat of Supreme Chancellor. Though these are just rumours, Palpatine has still taken precautions.
Captain [Blank] - You'd think I'd have come up with a decent name by now, huh. Anywho, this is the same guy from Year four, just with a slightly new look and rank. Not an admiral anymore, just a captain. Still blind though, and with a beard this time.
Commander Cody - Still fiercely loyal to the Republic, Cody remains in charge of the 212th attack battalion, leading them into battle, or commanding them from afar. He's getting older though, and is soon to be commanded, returned to Kamino to train the next generation of clones. Quick not about the armour, Mecabricks doesn't have stormtrooper helmets (weird right), so any PhIII's in the future will most likely be helmetless, unless absolutely necessary.
Commander Appo - After Rex's desertion, Appo took command of the 501st, continuing to fight alongside General Skywalker.
So, that's year five done and dusted. I'll be doing this for all the factions, and maybe one more depending on if I can make it work. As always, please lemme know what you think, and if you'd like to see more. Oh, and also if you can think of any other Jedi that would have remained loyal to the Republic, as I honestly couldn't think of any :D

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME.
Two days ago was my birthday and to be honest, I've never really been crazy about them.
I kind of thought of them as any other day.
Just like all the others, my 25th birthday was not special.
Friends and family would constantly tell me how I had to make it special because it is the quarter
of a century. But I have this strong thought that I can enjoy and make special any given day.
And well, I spent the whole day working.
Yesterday I left off to the mountains with a couple of my friends for reasons far away from my birthday.
Being up there, in such immensity, with the cold mist and the sound of silence, I realized how beautiful
being alive is, because sometimes, other things make you forget.
I thought of all the people I've met, all the love I've been given, all the music I've played.
Made me think of how lucky all of us who have lived are.
The weather up there was beyond perfect, and the views were to die for.
It was as if life itself was trying to tell me how lucky I am to have been part of this world more than 9131 days.
Now I have a whole different perspective.
A birthday is a day were you should be with the people you love, doing what you love, eating what you love.
Loving your life even more.
So for all of you who have been part of my life, thank you so much for making it so beautiful.
Love always.

From the original 2011 Moonlight Shadow photograph:
"During the nocturnal AT-AT maintenance shifts on Hoth the snowtroopers (yes, the insulation on their armor was that good) often built snow lanterns. They considered it an art form."
I don't like how the original looks as it is behind the link today. It's dark and has weird colours. I've edited it later for better but I haven't replaced the original, it will stay there with warts and all. It is a document of that time.
The story of this previously unreleased version of this photograph is that I was not happy with it at the time. There was something missing and it just didn't have the final special twist I wanted. I just didn't know what it would be. So, I kept shooting and changing the lights and the camera but to no avail.
For the last and final exposure of the photosession I blew on the snow in frustration, took the setup down and looked through the images ready to scrap them all. Then, on the computer screen, I saw the tiny flying snowy particles in the last frame and that became the definite version of this. It looked good.
This was also the first with that snow lantern I made. I still use it today, I'm very happy with how it works.
Now, eight years later, as I look at this mid-shoot takeout, it actually looks nice and calm. I like it. Those were prolific years back then.
(replaced by smaller size) in slavic mythology, Lada is a goddess of beauty and love. in russia they say in the marriage of a young couple living in "lada" what means "in love". "Lad" also means "peace," "unity" and "harmony".
