Playing with this photo my brother took in Thailand. I love the original but I wanted to see what I could do to produce a more dramatic image. I used bi-color filters from the Nic Collection Color Efex Pro 4 on two of these. I also used Nic Collection Define Pro to remove noise from the original jpeg. No RAW original here.
Let me know what you think if you have a moment. I'm interested in your impressions of the filtered shots. I know many people prefer the "real" image, but keep in mind that all digitial cameras that output jpegs have their own jpeg processing algorithms and scene settings which often involve many of the same tricks and tools as filter sets.
Disclosure, they kindly gave me these filters to try out.
The Donlands Diner, a neighbourhood staple since 1955, changed ownership sometime ago.
Deeply disappointed when they erased all the 'history' from the original diner's build and replaced it with the usual retro look fittings.
Black and white tiles, gobs of thin chrome and worst of all, removed this small neon from the window.
It was a diamond in the rough, but a diamond all the same.

So i didn't want to do the whole day of the dead thing just because we get moaned at for cultural appropriation, not like these different cultures haven't stolen our identities or forced our indigenous culture into the shadows by making a mockery out of them!
Ref flower festivals, Morris men, maypole dancing any number of old pagan traditions all have been left uncelebrated in favour or Diwali when we can openly appropriate a culture not ours!
OK i am not against celebrating other cultures in fact i love embracing them hence why i get annoyed by those who scream cultural appropriation when I dress in Asian costume or a white girl wants her hair braided in an African manner etc.
Back to Halloween. and so I went for a subtle little nail in the head and a boil on the cheek at least i could still look like a girl. Wish i had a little longer to make it look more realistic.

I removed the last version of this capture because I did some filthy work... this is totally re-edited and looks much better in my opinion.
This photo has been taken in Bavaria at the Ammersees north shore. The sun was setting on the right side of the capture and disappeared very quickly beneath some trees.. bad luck for me, because it would have been better if the sun was more southern ..
This composition with the jetty in the front is meant to be a guideline for your eyes and to lead them right into the image.
I've used the exposure blending method with two captures - one dark for the sky and one bright for the foreground - to creat this capture and worked with luminance masks and saturation masks.
I really hope you like this capture :) !!!

I met Bianca at the Yabun festival in Camperdown. Here she is performing a spiritual dance which involved water. If you look carefully, you will see small water droplets around her face which barely catch the light. The original picture was shot against a darker background which had some distracting elements so I removed them. I then converted to black and white and applied a blue filter to darken the skin tones. Finally, I adjusted the contrasts to achieve this effect.
Bianca is a proud Cabrogal woman of the Darug Nation.
The Darug are a group descending from an indigenous Australian people of that name, which shares strong ties of kinship and, in pre-colonial times, survived as skilled hunters in family groups or clans scattered throughout much of what is modern-day Sydney.

The Shutter Mechanism Plate removed.
Unfortunately the Blades did not stay in place :-(
However it is quite clear that 5 (smaller) Reinforcement Blades are used.
4 of these are underneath the Shutter Blades but 1 (see red arrows) sits on top.
This is how it should be according to Copal MXV service information. Care must be taken to re-install the 1 on top to the same Shutter Blade position !

Seen here near Locksley, locomotive 8230 tows 8606, 4615 and two U-boat motor cars, CF5003 and CF5021 from Junee to Lithgow State Mine.
This area would have been lightly powdered with snow earlier in the morning but had mostly melted by the time the train had come.

SHIP pics incoming. It's going to take me ages to photoshop them, so expect them either later or tomorrow. For now, here's a pretty cool shot of all the bits. Look at all the interior space I accidentally wasted near the front!

The now removed Sir Joseph Banks Conservatory, The Lawn, Union Road, Lincoln.
The Lawn is an early 19th century Greek revival building which began its life as a lunatic asylum designed by Richard Ingleman off Union Road, in Lincoln, Lincolnshire. It comprises a number of notable buildings, a hotel, rose garden and children's play area, set within a large lawn. The Sir Joseph Banks Conservatory is an attraction for visitors, a hothouse containing exhibits categorised by Banks on his voyages with Captain James Cook.
After initial fundraising, the site was bought in 1809; and Richard Ingleman, architect of Nottingham Asylum, was brought in. After delay caused by indecision on the management of the asylum, independent of the county magistrates, the subscribers went ahead in 1817, and the building opened as a hospital in April 1820. The Lawn continued to provide psychiatric inpatient facilities until closed by the NHS in 1985.
The City of Lincoln Council purchased the Lawn Hospital including the grounds on 13 March 1986 from The Secretary of State for Social Services for £425,000.00 and, following extensive refurbishment, the Lawn complex was officially opened on 20 November 1990. It operated as a catering and event venue under council control for some years until, in October 2011, a decision was made to sell it.
In late 2014 RW Stokes and Sons Ltd, the owners of Stokes Coffee and High Bridge Cafe in Lincoln, were annouced as the preferred bidder. The company will make The Lawn an operational outlet for Stokes Tea and Coffee, with a roastery, café, barista training and wholesale sales. Additionally, they will create a high quality restaurant with new car parking spaces on the upper part of the west lawn.
Previously the complex housed military regimental museums and a museum about the Roman colony Lindum Colonia, from which Lincoln takes its name. The main building is now run as a conference centre. The previous accommodation building for nurses and doctors is now a boutique hotel with an orangery and events area.
