Global distribution of mangrove forests circa 2000. Grid cell values are 1 where there is mangrove and 0 where there is no mangrove. Data values are derived by digital image classification of Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) data acquired around the year 2000.
The Khufu Boat Museum at the Giza pyramid complex
(Picture shows Parts of the first boat like it been found in the the eastern pit )
Boston University Center For Remote Sensing with Principal Investigators: Dr. Farouk El-Baz and National Geographic Society started the Revealing the Second Boat of Pharaoh Khufu by Remote Sensing Project in October 1987.
By drilling a nine-centimeter hole through the limestone cap rock of the second (western) pit, Photography of the interior revealed a disassembled boat. Much like the one that was opened in 1954, the second pit contained stacks of wood with pieces of the cabin arranged on top. This second boat appeared to be smaller than the first and had four small pointed oars.
Sampling the air in the cavity at different levels and measuring pressure, temperature, and relative humidity inside the chamber it was hoped that the investigation of its environmental surroundings would lead to a better understanding of how best to preserve the ancient wood, because the Khufu Boat had shrunk about 0.5 meters since it was assembled in 1966. It was feared that such deterioration may have been caused by the changing environmental conditions inside the museum.

ℹ️ This multi-temporal script calculates the average NDMI for three sets of two consecutive months, returning each pair in its own color channel, so the image displays the moisture differences through a six month period. The script is based on Harel Dan's Agricultural Growth Stage script.
