Reminded me of the song, Blue Skies, written by Irving Berlin in 1926.
Blue skies smiling at me Nothing but blue skies do I see Bluebirds singing a song Nothing but blue skies from now on I never saw the sun shining so bright Never saw things going so right Noticing the days hurrying by When you're in love my how they fly by Blue days all of them gone Nothing but blue skies from now on
At this time of year we are often reminded of those celebrities who have died during the past 12 months. For me there is one who stands out, head and shoulders, above them all and itâs someone you may never have heard of⊠Fred Knittle.
Fred was born in Utica, NY, in 1925 and in his retirement, in 1992 he joined the Young@Heart Choir based in Northampton, Massachusetts. This Choir features members ranging in age from 71 to 88. But there's an added novelty factor to the group's profile: the choir doesn't specialize in traditional choral music or hits from the `40s; instead they take on the music of artists like Sonic Youth, the Clash, U2, and Coldplay. If youâve never heard of them, or seen their story, then somehow get hold of a copy of the documentary DVD. For me it was, and always will be, a defining moment in TV documentary history.
This description of a DVD of their songs sums up the emotional impact of their performances:
âIn addition to the spirited singing and resonant arrangements, there's an intensity here informed, perhaps, by the sense of frailty and loss that accompanies old age. Whatever the reason, MOSTLY LIVE packs a serious emotional punchâ.
If you canât get to see the documentary, then share this wonderful moment when Fred, brought out of retirement to do one last show, sings the Coldplay classic, Fix Me. It makes me cry every time I watch it. The sound you hear at the beginning is the equipment he needed to aid his breathing.
Fred was loved for his sense of humour - his famous line, "I went from continent to continent until I became incontinent," was typical of his upbeat way of dealing with his health problems. He was a diehard fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots, and it therefore seems fitting to dedicate this shot, taken in the Museum of Fine Art, Boston, to him.
Fred died on January 1, 2009 at the age of 83
Here comes 2010 everyone⊠remember all those special people who wont get to see it, and make it your best year yet!!!
------------------------------ JESUS âïž SAVES-------------------------------
SALVATION THROUGH FAITH IN CHRIST JESUS ALONE!
â€ïžâ€ïž IT'S ALL JESUS AND NONE OF OURSELVES! â€ïžâ€ïž
16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the SALVATION of everyone WHO BELIEVES: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel a RIGHTEOUSNESS FROM GOD IS REVEALED, a righteousness that is by FAITH FROM FIRST TO LAST, just as it is written: "THE RIGHTEOUS WILL LIVE BY FAITH." (Romans 1:16-17)
16 KNOW that a man is NOT justified by observing the law, but by FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be JUSTIFIED BY FAITH in CHRIST and NOT by observing the law, BECAUSE BY OBSERVING THE LAW NO ONE WILL BE JUSTIFIED. (Galatians 2:16)
1. Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2. BY THIS GOSPEL YOU ARE SAVED, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
3. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4. that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5. and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. 6. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8. and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.
9. For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11. Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed. (1 Corinthians 15:1-11)
7. Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9. I am the gate; whoever enters through me WILL BE SAVED. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10. The thief comes only to STEAL and KILL and DESTROY; I have come that they may have LIFE, and have it to the FULL. (John 10:7-10)
Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!
So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus died that death for YOU and I. The good news is there no more punishment for sin left, we were and are all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. â€ïž âïž â€ïž

" I pray to the birds because I believe they will carry the messages of my heart upward. I pray to them because I believe in their existence, the way their songs begin and end each dayâthe invocations and benedictions of Earth. I pray to the birds because they remind me of what I love rather than what I fear. And at the end of my prayers, they teach me how to listen.â
â Terry Tempest Williams
Reminds me of a childhood story.
As a kid I would sneak into the kitchen to see if I could sneak a cookie after I was suppose to be in bed, this very quickly became sort of a game for me. The cookie jar made a bit noise when you put the lid on it. I would use my best Indiana Jones tip toe and ever so quietly grab the cookie. The difference between me and that Dr. Jones was I always got caught. But my mother always waited until I had the cooking in my mouth before I got the stern warning, I needed to put that back. (I think she did that on purpose)
Ikaria is one of the most recognizable sculptures by Igor Mitoraj. Its original replica was placed in the Paris district of La DĂ©fense, next to the most famous works of sculpture artists from around the world. The three-meter version of Ikaria, created in 1996, currently presented in the courtyard of the Pod BlachÄ Palace, comes from a private collection. The birthplace of the monumental figure is the Italian foundry of Pietrasanta in Tuscany. Until now, the figure was in the mBank's art collection, and then acquired by a private owner, was deposited for a temporary exhibition, related to the jubilee of the reconstruction of the Royal Castle in Warsaw.
The artist's work was inspired by the world of Greek and Roman mythology, and Ikaria is a clear reference to the myth of Daedalus and Icarus. Ascent as well as fall. Winged Ikaria reminds us of the eternal human drive to fulfillment and development, to rise to the heights of his abilities. It depicts a winged woman, proud in her majesty. Ready until it can take to the air. Both the inspiration and the obstacle in this flight may seem to be the male face, which we see in several places: in the hole cut on one of the wings, on the side and in the womb of the woman. A male hand prevents a female from flying into the skies.
Next week the clocks change and we will have only memories of the summer that just passed. Here's a green peak of summer to remind us all of the joys of summer.
After this we move the Autumnal colour pallet...
"If you see someone falling behind, walk beside them. If you see someone being ignored, find a way to include them. If someone has been knocked down, lift them up. Always remind people of their worth. One small act could mean the world to them." - Unknown

This reminds me of the 1967 hit by
Frankie Valli & The 4 Seasons,
"Can't Take My Eyes Off of You"
If you are wondering if his intention was to bite me; it was and he did. lol
________
You're just too good to be true
I can't take my eyes off you
You'd be like heaven to touch
I wanna hold you so much
At long last love has arrived
And I thank God I'm alive
You're just too good to be true
Can't take my eyes off you
Pardon the way that I stare
There's nothing else to compare
The sight of you leaves me weak
There are no words left to speak
But if you feel like I feel
Please let me know that is real
You're just too good to be true
I can't take my eyes off you
I love you baby
And if it's quite all right
I need you baby
To warm the lonely nights
I love you baby
Trust in me when I say
Oh pretty baby
Don't bring me down I pray
Oh pretty baby
Now that I've found you stay
And let me love you, baby
Let me love you
You're just too good to be true
I can'tâŠ.
--Frank Valli & The 4 Seasons, 1967
Those straw bales remind me of wooden cotton reels.
Did anyone ever get a wooden cotton reel, a pencil, a match stick, a slice of candle and a rubber band and make a vehicle that could race across the floor? Or combine several cotton reels to make a more powerful vehicle?
Have I got to make one and photograph it to show you what it is like? Fifty years ago I would have said, "What's a PlayStation?" Now, bet kids say, "What's a cotton reel?"
I'm honestly in love with this combo. If anybody wants to use it, please do. Just give credit :)

Reminds me of the old saying 'an insane man is sane in an insane world' which goes for women as well. (Also gives an insight into my old screen name :)
The pretty rusty patterns on the outside of a corten steel fireplace.
I still have classes today. I'm glad I was able to take a picture before the sun went down (at 5pm? what). I hope I will come up with better pictures this weekend.

Oh my wonders, first time ever on front page! Thank you so, so much for making this possible! You are an inspiration! Thank you so, so much. :)

i am floored by the many, many friends i make on flickr. who are here to share and learn and grow. this girl makes me smile. she totally brought me back to reality with her kindess, with her gorgeous art. she reminded me today, after a week-long struggle in my mind, why it is that i love flickr. why it is that i keep doing what i'm doing. it's not about the comments.... it's not about explore. it's about spurring one another on, inspiring each other to stretch and grow and expand. she honored me by creating a series that was inspired by my work, and i must say, i was teary eyed. it came at just the right time. this last series i did just about did me in. because in the past, i have been concerned about comments, about faves, about everything that doesn't really matter. this last series got the lowest amount of comments and faves, and i wanted to quit.... i feel it's my best work yet... and i put so much into it.... BUT i was judging my art based on how others responded to it. do i do it for me, or do i do it for them? it has been an absolute nightmare in my mind..... making me more than depressed.
but today, sweet amy, there for me. like an angel. reminding me that none of those things matter.... i'm not going to make the "comment rounds" just so people will comment back. i'm not going to do that any more. so if you're my contact, and your goal is to achieve the most comments, and the most faves, so you can land on explore, then take me off. the pressure is off. i won't be offended. i'm just being honest, and i'm sure i'll lose contacts right there just for that. but right now, i just don't care. people are busy. sometimes we give and give and give, and it's just time to receive. we never know what people are going through... ever. so i'm done with the flickr games. done.
so, amy.... you have done more for me than any therapist could i think at this point... you have helped me to free my mind of the toxic thoughts i've been having. they're gone. you, my dear, are wonderful. you remind me that it's about art, creating, and loving. what a fine example of that you are.... i am honored to have you as a contact and friend.
and p.s. another friend emailed me this this week, and i couldn't agree more:
"Some people can keep up with commenting to 100 people on daily basis but if I'm honest to myself I will have to admit that for me it doesn't work, it eats me away in some way. It feels like mass production and I've never been a friend of the masses. I would rather leave less comments less frequently if it means that I would at least sometimes actually stop and look at the picture properly, not just quickly jump to the next one to get my 'round' done. And I hope people would do the same with my pictures."
yes.

This just reminded me of that universal pouting pose that young girls do when being photographed. It also gives a good view of their feeding mechanism for sucking the contents out of clams. They have an airtight (actually watertight) mouth and a muscular tongue (just about visible) that creates negative pressure like a piston for sucking shellfish out of their shells. But I can't work out why the lower jaw seems to have discoloured the tusk where it comes into contact. I thought that might have been the cleanest part of the tusk that is regularly "polished" by the lips, but I'm not a dentist.
This tree reminds me of an angler dangling his rod in the fast flowing waters of the river, patiently awaiting a bite from a hungry fish. The area is one of my favourite locations on Dartmoor and I have already had another two visits here since this image was taken.
