Ana tossed her belongings hastily into her hat box and suitcase, shoving clothes and trinkets into place without much care. The morning rush left her little time for neatness. Her music blared from the record player, the beat sharp and loud, a deliberate wall of sound to keep Maddy from barging in with questions or complaints. The grey phantom toad, her peculiar companion, sat balanced on the spinning vinyl itself, blinking slowly as it turned with the record, watching her frenzy with eerie calm.

She huffed as she knelt to close her suitcase, bouncing on top of it until the latch finally snapped shut. The hat box wobbled in her hand, threatening to spill open with the last-minute things she had thrown inside—scarves, quills, even a half-finished sketch rolled haphazardly. She ran her fingers through her hair, trying to smooth it down, though the effort was mostly wasted.

“Right, that’s it,” she muttered to herself, voice half drowned by the music.

Snatching her suitcase handle, she cut the record short with a sharp flick, sending the phantom toad leaping off the vinyl with a disgruntled croak. It clung stubbornly to the edge of her hat box as if it refused to be left behind. Ana rolled her eyes but allowed it, too pressed for time to argue with the creature.

The clock on the wall reminded her how little time she had left. Her heart gave a nervous leap. Gathering everything, she dashed out the door, the echo of her shoes on the floorboards matching the quick rhythm of her pulse.

The morning air hit her like a rush of cold water as she stepped outside, weaving through the busy street with her luggage bumping along behind her. Each step brought her closer to King’s Cross Station, closer to the hidden barrier between platforms nine and ten. She could already imagine the scarlet steam engine waiting beyond, the crowd of witches and wizards bustling, owls hooting in their cages, the mingled smell of smoke and sweets in the air.

Platform Nine and Three-Quarters awaited, and Ana was determined not to miss it.

Reminded me of two little old people walking on the beach.

Reminds me of a couple of hoodlums hanging around a pool hall.

Well this was a sraight shot one handed with the P&S - hanging onto my shopping with the other hand . A local house with a building of historic interest on it with a well full front garden with all sorts of plants , including a couple of dramatic Irises I think ( other shot for another day ) . However , this capture makes me think of Pink Floyd and some of the artwork that went with some of their music . The artwork was the work of Gerald Scarfe and I recall seeing plants like this with some videos .

I must add the cartoon work from Monty Python comes to mind as well - that would have been Terry Gilliam .

Artists aside it is still an impressive bloom !!

Among my favourite classical composers is Rachmaninov. As I post this image I am listening to his piano concerto No 2, from 1901. Within the melody, another familiar tune is revealed in the form of "All by myself", by Eric Carmon in 1975. A mistake that cost him dearly for using that same melody.

He thought it was public domain, when in fact the family had retained ownership. This scenario reminds me of that situation, but for the opposite reason. Believing for an instant that I own this moment, it is instead a public one. All will enjoy this melody that continues to play for others to capture.

The White-faced Ibis

The white-faced ibis is a wading bird in the ibis family, Threskiornithidae. This species breeds colonially in marshes, usually nesting in bushes or low trees.

This handsome bird shimmers with purple, green, and bronze plumage. Breeding adults add to this a ruby-red eye surrounded by a sharp white mask, and pink legs.

Flocks of this long-legged bird forage in marshes across large parts of the American West, where wetlands are very scarce and often ephemeral. They probe their long, curving bills into moist soil, searching for earthworms and other invertebrates, typically at the edges of marshes or in wet farm fields.

White-faced Ibises look dark, almost blackish, at a distance. Close up and in good light, breeding adults are glossy maroon with metallic green and bronze tones on the wing. They typically have red eyes with pink legs and facial skin. The face is highlighted by a narrow band of white, absent in Glossy Ibis. Immature and nonbreeding adults are more matte brown, without the white facial outline and with duller legs.

White-faced Ibises are usually seen in flocks, both when nesting in colonies and when foraging. They typically feed by lowering the bill into water, mud, or soil, to feel for prey, or sweep the bill through the water. They can also catch prey by sight, including insects on vegetation.

Found this Ibis while checking for wildlife photo-opportunities at a local park.
