Remember those late 80's, early 90's Volvos? The ones that all seemed to be that funny metallic light blue, and handled like APC's?
Those things were awesome.
Taken with the plungercam.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

A Remembrance ceremony, like every year, same place, same time
So many years ago, every year less and less old friends.
An old man put on his uniform once more, glad to still fit, got out and cleaned his rifle.
He now was one of the 'sitting' guest, standing proud a bit difficult now.
Remembering, ah yes, remembering...
Thanks and have a peaceful day, Magda, (*_*)

This is one end of Bugis Street in Singapore in 1966. Most of Bugis street was behind me when I took this photograph.
A street market by day, in the evening it became one long open air bar and restaurant. This must have been taken around 6pm before darkness fell, and long before the street theatre, colourful characters and drinkers thronged the street.
This was all demolished in 1985 as Singapore became a modern city, but such was the outcry, they were forced to build a new Bugis street, although by all accounts a sanitized shopping version. In Singapore now it would not be possible to have a street as politically incorrect or lively as the original Bugis Street.
My sweet girl Kiki went to the Rainbow Bridge this morning. She was loved by many. Made a difference in the lives of many. Converted quite a few people from not liking ratties to realizing just how wonderful they are.
She was one of my best friends ever, and I'll miss her tremendously...
Every 11th November we remember the Fallen of the Two World Wars, as well as those that have given their lives in conflicts since. Please - Remember them.
In remembrance of 911...

“Yes I am back , so are you , girls like me are much more eager to take control in bed , we have that certain something to offer men like you”
Not much time for photography recently due to pressure of work. So I've been trying different effects on images taken earlier.
These are Ground-Elder taken on a lovley sunny day in mid-July. There were swathes of them growing on the edge of a nearby stream. The flowers are delicate pinks and whites although Ground-Elder is a very vigorous and invasive weed ! I've used textures and layers in this version for an "impressionist" feel
I am very grateful to Jo Sand-Man for telling me what they were from a vague "They look like Cow Parsley" description !
Thanks to Ghostbones for the texture www.flickr.com/photos/ghostbones/2419152148/in/set-721576...
...where you were the Night Rip Maddox and Buck Summy set the Jail on Fire?
Vicky Patton remembers this piece of Central Texas history well because Buck Summy is her father and she has heard the story all her life. Now you may think you're hearing the same story about Vern Crider smuggling the beer and James Ealy Johnson setting the jail on fire, but you can be assured these are two separate events, both of which will be covered in our lifetime. Some may ask "why cover both stories when they are so similar?" and of course, the answer is found in the question, "would a historian leave out World War II in a history book just because World War I had been covered?" I think not.
This probably happened during the fall or winter of 1934 when both Cecil (Rip) Maddox and Buck Summy were seventeen year olds. Sheriff King Casparis believed and had reason to believe that he had probable cause to arrest Rip Maddox for public intoxication.
He instructed Rip to walk ten paces in a straight line, turn and then place his right index finger on the tip of his nose. Rip immediately responded by laying flat on his back on the ground with his palms up. Rip believed this would indicate to Sheriff Casparis that he was able to lay on the ground without holding on and thereby, once and for all, settle the matter of his sobriety.
Sheriff Caspars was not amused and Rip was arrested and placed in the upstairs northwest cell of the Blanco County jail. This created a medical problem.
Rip Maddox found himself in the final stages of the second worse medical trauma a young man can experience--CERVESUS CONSUMPTUS INTERRUPTIS. Being fully aware of the high mortality rate of sufferers of this malady, Rip sought out his true friend and co-drinker, Buck Summy, to come to his rescue. Rip broke out the northwest window of the upstairs jail cell with a broom or mop handle (history has not determined for a certainty which) and tore his sheets into strips which he tied together to make a rope which he lowered to Buck on the ground below.
Before Buck was able to tie the beers to the cotton rope for Rip to recover, Sheriff Casparis appeared on the scene and again, unamused, arrested Buck. And just to prove that he,Sheriff King Casparis, indeed had a sense of humor, he placed Buck Summy in the same cell with Cecil (Rip) Maddox. There are only two cures for CERVESUS CONSUMPTUS INTERRUPTIS and we see here the first cure has been thwarted by the ever-alert eyes of the criminal justice system, circa 1934.
The night was just too long and too cold and too depressing and our protagonists were beginning to shiver and mumble to themselves when Rip found a book of matches. Viola! We are saved! A fire was built and our heroes began to drift into a fitful sleep when they were awakened by their own coughing and realized that their cell was full of smoke and they could see the flames coming from the mattress.
Strangely the physical constraints of CERVESUS CONSUMPTUS INTERRUPTIS seemed to be diminishing. Sheriff King Casparis was not amused as the fire was beaten out and the ruined mattress was thrown under a running shower.
Our story ends as the second only known cure for CERVESUS CONSUMPTUS INTERRUPTIS begins to kick in. Oxygen deprivation therapy, followed by fitful sleep therapy, followed by magistration therapy and finally fine-paying therapy and our chess players in the game of life find themselves walking out into a new life, poorer but wiser.
Vernon Crider expressed the "wiser" part this way, "when I see the law coming, I go the other way."
Authority on the matter, Nelson Withers, had this to say about whether there was more than one incident of this nature in Blanco County in 1934. "Back then they used to set the jail on fire a couple of times a month."
The day which we fear as our last is but the birthday of eternity.

Remembering Tōhoku
4 years after the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami , most areas of Rikuzentakata coastal side are still an empty land with sand factories operating day and night for the redevelopment progress of the city.
In years to come, Rikuzentakata will be a totally new city.
Today 11 March 2015, marks the 4th commemoration year of this tragic event.
Remembering Tōhoku is my documentary project in Autumn 2014 with intention to show the after effects, post event scenes and redevelopment progress in Tōhoku coastal cities of Kamaishi, Rikuzentakata and Yuriage.

My Second Mother's Day without her around ...
Happy Mother's Day Mama!
I Love You!
Each Eve of Mother's Day, I used to sneak out of the house and drive to the nearest grocery store before closing time. I'd buy her a card, balloons and a blooming azalea. I'd sign the card and leave all three on top of the dining table. So, when they got up Mother's Day morning, her presents were already waiting for her. Then we would go out for a brunch or dinner, whichever she preferred. My folks were retired school teachers so they have always been early risers even after retirement. I sure miss those days.
The National September 11 Memorial is a tribute of remembrance and honour to the nearly 3,000 people killed in the terror attacks of September 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center site.
The Memorial’s twin reflecting pools are each nearly an acre in size and feature the largest manmade waterfalls in North America. The pools sit within the footprints where the Twin Towers once stood. Architect Michael Arad and landscape architect Peter Walker created the Memorial design.
The names of every person who died in the 2001 and 1993 attacks are inscribed into bronze panels edging the Memorial pools.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace.
