Following the Santa Fe Trail through Kansas City Part I
Shawnee Methodist Mission was a camp established by missionaries in 1830 to minister to the Shawnee tribe of Native Americans, relocated to its present location in 1839. It was also the second capital of the Kansas Territory, holding that designation from July 16, 1855, to the spring of 1856. It is today a museum located in the town of Fairway, Kansas.

With the Crookshank house moved, construction can really get going on the new condo it will form the entrance to.
Relocated was a three year (2001 – 2003) project based at Kensington public housing estate.
Photographer Angela Bailey and writer Angela Costi were based at the estate and worked with tenants and relocated tenants to document the redevelopment of this estate in physical, social and emotional terms and to acknowledge and celebrate the contribution made by tenants (past and present) to Kensington and to Melbourne generally.
This public housing estate was redeveloped into a new public/private housing development and 400 households (around 1000 people) were relocated temporarily or permanently from the estate to suburbs across Melbourne. Given the small size of Kensington (approximately 5000 people), this redevelopment signified a huge shift locally.
The project was a collaboration with the Tenants Union of Victoria, the Kensington Public Tenants Association, and the Office of Housing. Public outcomes of reLOCATED included an exhibition and public performance on the estate, an exhibition at Horti Hall Gallery in Carlton, and the publication of a book.

Lisa and I are relocating a feral cat who can't go back home and who has shown zero inclination to become a housecat. She will stay in this setup for about three weeks to become comfortable with her new surroundings. Then hopefully she'll choose to stay once we open the crate door. Supplies: A large dog crate rainproofed with clear shower curtains, with a litterbox, food, a small shelter box and a water dish (out of the frame). We're counting on her to run into the storage tub when we approach to tend to litter and food.

After the porch was done the basil was moved back up but I left the rest of the plants out in the yard. They are heavy and won't be moved again until I bring in for the winter.

This house is threatened with demolition because of the proposed LSU hospital.

Charles Orleans House (1800 Canal St; 1889)
This City of New Orleans landmark is rated “Blue” by the HDLC for major architectural importance. It was constructed in 1889 in as a private home for Charles Orleans, a cemetery-memorial builder. It remained in the Orleans family until 1934. It remained a residence until it was sold to the Orleans Parish Medical Society in 1978, which remodeled it into offices. It embodies a “complete and well-preserved form of the distinguishing characteristics of the Queen Anne style modified by Eastlake style ornament, and (is valued) as one of the most complete nineteenth-century buildings surviving along Canal Street between Claiborne and Carrollton Avenues,” according to the HDLC Landmark report. It is located within the Mid-City National Register Historic District. Unfortunately, its location falls along the edge of the footprint that is proposed for the new LSU Medical Center. Every effort should be made to save this important building, one of the few intact Victorian residential buildings remaining along this part of Canal Street, which was originally a vibrant residential section. The LSU Medical Center plan should allow for the retention of this building, or accommodate its relocation and restoration.
