In the early part of World War II, 110,000 persons of Japanese ancestry were interned in relocation centers by executive order No. 9066, issued on February 19, 1942.
Manzanar, the first of ten such concentration camps, was bounded by barbed wire and guard towers, confining 10,000 persons, the majority being American citizens.
May the injustices and humiliation suffered here as a result of hysteria, racism, and economic exploitation never emerge again.

Road Sign on New Road "HEDON - Historic Market Town" has been relocated from the other side of the road.
New arrivals to the relocation settlement are under considerable pressure to get their houses built, especially during typhoon season. Each family is given $1,000 and a plot of land. Some build for themselves, others hire contractors, but being new to the area, many lack a social network and are vulnerable to exploitation.

Historic Mulberry Creek Bridge in Schulenburg, Texas. The bridge is a wrought iron, single-span Pratt bedstead pony truss. It was built in 1888 by the Missouri Valley Bridge and Iron Works and its sub-contractor, A. J. Tullock and Company. It was originally located on Schulenburg-Flatonia Road over the West Navidad River, before being moved in the early 1920s to County Road 291 (Hermis Road) over Mulberry Creek. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 (NRHP No. 75001976). It was also designated as a State Antiquities Landmark in 1981 and as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1990.
The bridge was moved to its current location in Wolters Park in Schulenburg in 2001 where it serves as a pedestrian bridge over Schulenburg Creek. It was relisted on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013 (NRHP No. 13000888 as the Bedstead Truss Bridge).

July 31, 2007 - The 2nd public meeting was held on the proposed relocations of the airports now located in Fishers and Chesterfield, Indiana to Lapel, Indiana was held by Madison County Commissioner Paul Wilson at the Trinity Life Center Tuesday Evening to a standing room only crowd estimated to be in excess of 350 people from the surrounding area. There is a growing concern by some Lapel area residents that they may be in this fight alone.

Stream relocation project in Germantown, Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) is relocating an existing stream, which currently runs in a straight roadside channel along Donges Bay Road just east of Fond Du Lac Avenue (STH 145). Latitude, longitude is 43.2062, -88.082. The road is being widened as part of an intersection reconstruction. The DOT is shifting the channel away from the road and reconstructing it into a meandering channel with rock/riffle material and native plantings in the riparian zone.
Photo from October 17, 2015. The channel was constructed in summer 2015. Currently, the new channel is "dry" and disconnected from the existing stream at its upstream end;
the existing stream will be rerouted into the new channel in 2016.
Plans and specs for this project are available online from the Wisconsin DOT bidding website. It is State project 2475-00-72. It was Project 16 from the March 10, 2015 bid letting. I've included a couple snapshots from the plan set.

Manzanar War Relocation Center was one of ten internment camps during WWII. Many of the people sent here were native-born American citizens. They were not spies. They were not saboteurs. They were not criminals. They were not prisoners of war. They were not foreign agents. They were held prisoner here for no reason other than their Japanese heritage.
Manzanar is located just outside of Independence, CA, about half way between Reno and Los Angeles along US 395. The remains of the camp are now a National Historic Site, which is open to the public and free. There is a museum about the Japanese Internment of WWII and life in the camps. A self-guided auto tour will take you through the site of the camp.
Nov. 28 - Dec. 2, 2018. Volunteers from Roanoke Appalachian Trail Club, Natural Bridge Appalachian Trail Club, and Konnarock Trail Crew alumni rallied to complete an A.T. relocation on the southern slope of Sinking Creek Mountain in central VA. This 0.4-mile switchback was started in 2016, and features a great deal of technical rock work as it crosses rock fields to replace a steep, eroded section near the top of the ridge.
In cases such as this, expensive repairs are necessary, and the road will continue to erode during any high flow event.
Relocation and/or reclaiming the road is the only long-term strategy to protect water quality.

This rather large shrub/tree has had to be uprooted from the spot where it has grown very happily for the last six years to make way for the impending building work. It looks a bit tatty as it's just gone through a very hard winter and hasn't started growing yet, but it's been a star performer in a garden that struggles with evergreens due to the clay/flooding situation. It used to be the first thing you saw when you came in so I'm sad to move it, but it seems to be settling in ok. It wasn't easy to move - mr aspidistra was a star digger but I had doubts that it would come out of the hole as it's really heavy. It was dark last night by the time it finally made it to its new home and we had to fill in the hole by torchlight. I just hope it survives.
An Installation Management Command Soldier serves in the honor guard at the IMCOM uncasing ceremony. The ceremony held on Oct. 5, 2010 in San Antonio, Texas and marked IMCOMs permanent relocation to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio.
