Reliving the days of smoke and steam… Former Great Western Railway 2-8-0T tank engine No. 4277 thunders through Consall Station in Staffordshire. 4277 is a preserved British steam locomotive that was built at GWR’s Swindon Works in in 1920.

The Churnet Valley line was one of the three original routes planned and built by the North Staffordshire Railway. Authorised in 1846, the line opened in 1849 and ran from North Rode in Cheshire to Uttoxeter in East Staffordshire. The line was closed in several stages between 1964 and 1988 but part of the central section passed into the hands of a preservation society and today operates as the Churnet Valley Railway.

And they're back, the season of the Spiders has started early thanks to a relatively mild Winter and recent calmer weather. The Orb Weavers are particularly big for this time of year which means most of the generation from the last few months survived the Winter and are well fed. I love my Spiders and thanks to my new toy (Raynox DCR-250) which this time I attached to the Tamron 70-300mm with additional Macro focus meant I could get in extremely close.

It is true what the reviewers said that the subject will know you are there being so close in distance to get the focus, however, that said it's worth the additional challenge. At the same location as usual with the strobe lights above and a balance flash, I raised the ƒ aperture value to 22 up from the usual lower 5.6. The result gave a much more shadowy and sinister capture with the flash just reflecting off the eyes, so this nightmarish image occurs.

Enjoy the weekend everyone, I hope everyone had a great week and so as always, thank you! :)

Reliving a wonderful experience many local photographers had at Mud Lake this past summer. For a three week period, this tiny masterpiece was the subject of much excitement. These sweet hummingbirds fledged the day after I took this photo.

BLACK-HEADED GULLS ...

I was already driving home when I saw in front of me a flock of birds I have never seen before! There were nobody else but me so I parked my car and started shooting! I have driven there many times since, hoping to see them again but with no luck!

Have a wonderful week everyone!

Thank you so much for stopping by and for the kind comments and favs. They are very much appreciated!

Reliving old vacations, since it might be a while before another trip is possible. This was a nice little hot spring we found traveling in the Westfjörds a few years back. The water was a bit slimey and the moss very slippery, but the water was a nice 40 degrees C, a stunning view, and no one else around made for a nice day.

In Armungia relived a mural of Pinuccio Sciola (recently disappeared) dedicated to Emilio Lussu, political historian, anti-fascist and founder of the Psd'Az. His portrait, made in 1976, in the centre of the country, had been gradually erased by time. Now, thanks to a workshop organized as part of the three-day "A coffee in d Armungia", it is back in its place: on a wall in front of the church.

Reliving memories of the gardens at Hampton Court Palace from my visit last April. King Henry VIII’s magnificent home and gardens was a highlight of the journey.

Reliving the 1970’s outside an Antiques Centre in Brighton ...

In the 1960s, there were many illiterate migrants living in Kwai Chai Hong, the old Chinatown in Kuala Lumpur. This mural shows a Chinese calligrapher helping the residents to write letters home, probably to mainland China.

This recently rejuvenated hotel has a history that goes back to 1854. But here is a sad story. Whereas now it is a drinking and gambling venue (pubs can rarely survive these days without gaming or gambling), in the 1970s to the 1990s it was also a major hub in the live music industry.

Solid rock: Reliving the glory days of Hobart's pub rock scene www.abc.net.au/news/2019-04-09/hobart-live-bands-venue-hi...

These places were opportunities for new bands to develop a following and become a part of the music industry. But there are very few pubs offering their stages to rock musicians these days.

Reliving the good ol' times, every once and a while, when the mood struck him, Sebastian Bachelstein liked to throw in a VCR tape with one of the promotional videos his band, Skid Row Row Your Boat did back in the day and just rock out!

Of note: The requisite 'eye candy' for rock videos was in this case provided by The Ravishing Raymonds - a dancing/acting/cavorting sister duet made up of Hildegard and Anastasia.

BNSF 558 and 542 haul the Monticello local eastbound through Saint Michael. This train got relived at Rogers after sitting for 5 days. It's rather rare to see them going east through here in the morning as they typically don't work Albertville until midday.

Reliving its former glory days, EMD SD70MAC #9650, still dressed proudly in its original, and grimy, Burlington Northern "Executive" company uniform, turns and burns through a long, sweeping curve outside Oneida, IL, carrying out the honors on westbound train E CNMNAM0 14B. These 130 empty Detroit Edison buckets off Norfolk Southern (NS 881) from a power plant in Monroe, MI are making excellent time as they hustle across main two of BNSF's Mendota Subdivision, sights set on Galesburg where its waiting outbound crew will leapfrog the train one step closer toward the coal chutes at North Antelope Mine for loading in Wyoming's Powder River Basin. This particular locomotive is one of only a few lucky ex-BN Grinsteins to have the BNSF "Wagon Wheel" shield grace its cream colored nose, and one of only five currently permitted to lead trains with its necessary PTC equipment.

Anzac Day, 25 April, is probably Australia's most important national occasion. It marks the anniversary of the first campaign that led to major casualties for Australian and New Zealand forces during World War One and commemorates all the conflicts that followed.

Shanghai residents relive their waltzing days on the Bund.

First time travellers to China may be surprised to find that the Chinese dance on the streets all the time. Early in the mornings or evenings, they gather in groups and break into their Foxtrots or Rock n' Rolls. The music is provided by their own portable cassette players hooked up to speakers. Shanghai residents have been ballroom dancing in parks for decades. But this was not always the case.

During the Cultural Revolution from 1966 to 1976, the government banned things it saw as foreign and bourgeois. Dancing was forbidden and many people got around the ban by dancing alone covertly.

Here a group of elegant ladies and men were all dressed up and twirling away. As the Tennessee Waltz floated through the air, it was indeed poignant to see a lady waltzing with her imaginary partner.

Of all the Flickr comments on this photo, perhaps the most touching was made by Jacanegra who said, "My eyes filled with tears, this is the dance of life. And at some point we all dance alone. "

I took this photo exactly a year ago during my first visit to beautiful Corsica. Now I'm reliving my holiday, day by day, one photo a day.

Here we see RhB Ge4/4 locomotive 613 working the 15:02 service from Pontresina to Scoul-Tarasp on the afternoon of the 20/2/20, which was photographed in Samedan.

Just reliving the experience from January this year. One I never posted and then forgot about. This was a funny shot to take as Peter went sliding down the underside of the jetty and a race for the 'central' spot ensued. We were on our way to Sweden, drove about 3 miles and then saw this and didn't get much further. These images become more dream like every time I see them as the rain and mist here make it seem like another world.

Remembering what has been lived is to relive the past: the memory of loved ones and also those moments spent in unforgettable landscapes and places for their exuberant and unique beauty that will always remain in our memory.

Barmouth Bridge

(Welsh: Pont Abermaw), or Barmouth Viaduct is a Grade II listed single-track wooden railway viaduct across the estuary of the Afon Mawddach near Barmouth, Wales. It is 820 metres (900 yd) long and carries the Cambrian Line. It is the longest timber viaduct in Wales and one of the oldest in regular use in Britain.

Barmouth Bridge was designed by and constructed for the Aberystwith and Welsh Coast Railway on its line between Aberystwyth and Pwllheli. Work was authorised in 1861 and commenced in 1864. On 10 October 1867, the completed bridge was officially opened. Following the discovery of severe corrosion on underwater sections of ironwork, an intensive restoration programme was performed between December 1899 and late 1902. By 1980, the viaduct was under attack by marine woodworm, which led to concerns that it would have to be closed and demolished. Because of its value to tourism, it was repaired between 1985 and 1986, a closure of six months; a weight restriction and ban on locomotive-hauled trains were also introduced. These restrictions have been relaxed since 2005.

The viaduct, between Morfa Mawddach and Barmouth stations in Gwynedd, is used by rail, cyclists and pedestrians and is part of the National Cycle Route 8. Tolls were collected for foot and cycle traffic up to 2013 but this has been voluntary since 2017. To allow the passage of tall ships, the bridge incorporated a drawbridge, which was replaced between 1899 and 1902 by a swing bridge, which is no longer operational due to a lack of use. There is no provision for road traffic.

Gales
