In 2024, Efteling has taken its lighting plan to a higher level by replacing the lampposts on the walking paths. There are separate lanterns for each realm ('rijk'). This is the type and color that we encounter in Reizenrijk near Het Efteling Kinderspoor (pedal trains / traptreintjes). This attraction was always part of Ruigrijk but has been part of Reizenrijk since September 2024 and also has the lanterns in the style of De Wereld van Sindbad.
De Efteling
The Efteling is a fantasy-themed amusement park in Kaatsheuvel in the Netherlands. The attractions are based on elements from ancient myths and legends, fairy tales, fables, and folklore.
The park was opened in 1952. It has since evolved from a nature park with a playground and a Fairytale Forest into a full-sized theme park. It now caters to both children and adults with its cultural, romantic, and nostalgic themes, in addition to its wide array of amusement rides.
It is the largest theme park in the Netherlands and one of the oldest theme parks in the world. It is twice as large as the original Disneyland park in California and antedates it by three years. Annually, the park has nearly 5 million visitors. In 2016, it was the third most visited theme park in Europe, behind Disneyland Paris and Europa-Park. Over the years, it has received over 125 million visitors.

The square in front of the indoor roller coaster Vogelrok during the Winter-Efteling of 2018-2019.
Winter Efteling
Winter Efteling is the opening of the Efteling in the winter season, nowadays from November to February. The event has been brought since the first edition as a distinctly different experience than the Efteling offers during the rest of the year, with all kinds of extras in the form of decorations, special live entertainment and winter catering and attractions. The park also has different opening hours than during the high season.
The Winter Efteling has been organized since 1999. After three trial editions, it was decided in 2002 to put the event permanently on the calendar. Until 2010, the park was still closed between the summer season and the Winter Efteling, nowadays the Efteling is open every day of the year and there is therefore no interruption between summer and winter season.

Warme Winter Weide 10/01/2024 14h44
The side of the ice rink on the Warme Winter Weide (meadow) is very nicely themed. Typical Efteling! And best seen in backlight like here.
Winter Efteling 2023
The Winter Efteling takes place from November 24, 2023 to February 4, 2024. New this year are the life-size snow globes on the Ton van de Venplein and in Ruigrijk. Get in there and let it snow! That produces a real winter picture. This winter you will also see the elves from Droomvlucht on the Ton van de Venplein. They brought a music box.
Also new are the special luminous butterflies that Sander de Bruijn, chief designer of Efteling, designed last year in collaboration with ASML for the GLOW light festival. Parts of the light project 'Connecting your love' can be admired during Winter Efteling.
The Playground will also change into the attractive Warm Winter Meadow this year. Enter through the gate and discover extra entertainment and a heart-warming musical offering every day. Take a picture with Pardoes at the sleigh and Fay the Fairy and Pinocchio make it snow. Or listen to the polyphonic music of Zang en Happy. Warm up at the Bonfires, play games at the various chalets, enjoy delicious winter treats and browse through the winter souvenirs. Or skate a round on the larger skating rink in the open air.

Vogelrok 18/12/2017 14h30
The Winter edition of the entrance of Vogelrok (Bird Rock in English), the enclosed roller coaster in De Efteling.
Vogelrok
The name of the ride, Vogel Rok, refers to the adventure of Sinbad and the Bird Roc from the 1001 Arabian Nights; the extensive theming covers, beside the ride, the building and the queue line. The building has as a frontage a giant colorful Roc, the largest bird in Europe, according to the Guinness Book of Records. In the opening year there weren’t a lot of effects in the ride, and the link between the story and the ride wasn’t very clear. Since then a Serpent’s mouth has been added at the end of the ride, which lights up as the train goes through it. There used to be a laser-light-show at the queue, but that has been removed. This was done because the lights were too low, and people would look at them, thereby damaging their eyes. In 2007, more themed decorations were added.
Lasers project over the train as it climbs the lift-hill and seen to the left are four Rocs flying off. In a strong curve down leftwards the train dives towards the ground and several more curves bring the train through a tunnel of lasers.
The train then falls into a helix and goes through a Serpent’s mouth, which lights up as the train passes through it. The last curve is decorated with fiber optic lights, portraying the diamond treasure.
Apparent wind-effects stimulate the ride-experience.
The ride has an onboard sound system with a synchronized soundtrack written by composer Ruud Bos, who also wrote the musical themes for Droomvlucht, Fata Morgana and Villa Volta.

Pagode 10/04/2024 17h46
Looking down from above in the Pagode to see the station of both Pagode as Gondoletta.
Pagode
Pagoda (or "Pagode" in Dutch) is an unobtrusive variation of an observation tower in the Efteling amusement park in the Netherlands. It was designed by Ton van de Ven and started operating in 1987.
The Pagoda, developed by Intamin as a flying island, is described by Efteling as a "flying temple".
It consists of a 155 tons weighing cabin and a 225-ton hydraulic arm which pivots it from the ground up to a height of 60 metres.
The counterweight of 340 tons sinks 30 metres into the ground.
To maintain the balance of the cabin itself the weight of the 100 visitors is distributed over its two sides.
The rotating cabin has a 15 metre high pagoda on top of it.
Etymology studies indicated that the word pagoda means tomb in Thai (ธาตุเจดีย). Preoccupied with upsetting a whole nation, as with Fata Morgana, Efteling choose the Dutch word "pagode" as the ride name.

This Summer (2023) the Summer entertainment escaped a bit from my attention but I love this entrance of the Summer beach,
In the Summer of 2023 Carnival Festival characters Jokie and Jet get their own summer meadow in Efteling during the high season. The amusement park is working on a summer festival site on the Speelweide, with entertainment, games, catering and a few DIY attractions.
The temporary addition is designed as a beach with colorful umbrellas, seating areas, beach huts and shade cloths. A hot air balloon will be placed in the heart of the area, known from the stories of Jokie and Jet. In addition, two large circles are visible, where a sandbox and a bouncy castle will be realized.
The Speelweide in the Reizenrijk park section is increasingly being used for temporary initiatives. During the summer season of 2022, Efteling Wonderland could still be found on the site, on the occasion of the theme park's seventieth anniversary. In winter, the area transforms into the Warm Winter Meadow. Only part of the field is used for the new Jokie and Jet concept.
Jokie has been the host of the cheerful dark ride Carnival Festival since 1984. Since 2012, the little jester has been accompanied by the purple bird Jet. Over the past decade, Efteling has launched shows, souvenirs and an animated series based around the children's brand. This makes Jokie and Jet among the most prominent Efteling figures in and outside the park.

Wereld van Sindbad 25/03/2024 15h13
The entrance of the De Wereld van Sindbad when walking from Symbolica and Ruigrijk along the pond Vondelplas.
De Wereld van Sindbad (The World of Sindbad) is a themed area within Reizenrijk with attractions including Vogelrok, Archipel and Scirocco and the restaurant Kashba,
De Wereld van Sindbad
The World of Sindbad is located around the Reizenrijkplein in the northeast corner of Efteling. On the square itself, plants and the use of other street furniture indicate which part belongs to the Carnival Festival and which to Sindbad.
The largest attraction in the world is Vogel Rok, the entrance to which is hidden behind the immense bird figure that peers over the square. Directly opposite is Sirocco, a 'teacup' merry-go-round in which boats spin quickly when a storm arises. There is also a beach here where Sindbad is moored with his boat - a feather from Vogel Rok is among his packing.
To the left of the entrance to Sirocco is the entrance to Archipel, a water playground containing houses on stilts with thatched roofs. Opposite these two attractions is the Kasbah, a large restaurant that from the outside resembles a fortified Arab city. This is the place where Sindbad relaxes between his travels and markets his merchandise.
Efteling's relationship with the fairy tales of Fairy Tales of 1001 Nights goes back a long time. Anton Pieck's trip to Morocco and the illustrations he made for the sixteen-part Parnassus collection of stories (1943-1954) have been an important inspiration for Efteling. In May 1964, Pieck's more than seventy Moroccan travel sketches were already exhibited in what is now the World of Sindbad, namely the bodega in the Café-Restaurant.
In the late 1970s, Efteling started working on the 1001 Night Show project to build an attraction around this theme. An early sketch from October 1978 lists "Sindbad the Sailor" along with Ali Baba and Aladdin as suggestions for the theme. After a search through the park, this project resulted in 1986 in the large dark ride Fata Morgana, located on the Vonderplas, in which the visitor is completely immersed in the 1001 nights theme.

Carnaval Festival
Carnival Festival is a darkride in Reizenrijk. The attraction is a ride in a cart that, via the Omnimover system, transports visitors through the building, where cheerful scenes of different cultures of the world are portrayed through music, sets and around 275 dolls.
The spiritual father of the Carnival Festival is Joop Geesink, who devised and designed the attraction just before his death. The attraction, referred to in a 1984 advertisement by the Efteling as 'a life-size viewing box', is primarily nationally known for its music. The recognizable tune was created by Toon Hermans. Ruud Bos searched for the harmonies and notes and processed the main melody into various arrangements. Bos thus had his first collaboration with Efteling and remained the house composer of the park in the following fourteen years. Carnival Festival is the first time the park does not use existing music, but has it composed specially.
The ride is split into about twenty scenes, in which fifteen countries are portrayed through typical, clichéd features and changes in the arrangements of the music.

Gondoletta 27/01/2025 14h55
Not everything in Efteling is animatronic. This opportunistic seagull hitches a ride on our 20-minute boat ride in Gondoletta.
Gondoletta
Gondoletta is a Water ride in amusement park Efteling in the Netherlands. It was developed by Intamin (as a Tow boat ride); designed by Ton van de Ven and started operating in 1981.
Gondoletta is the attraction with the strongest connection to the roots of the Foundation Nature Park the Efteling. With the destruction of a large part of the Dutch economy during the Second World War the rampant unemployment of the time forced the government to institute New Deal –like employment programs.
In the case of Kaatsheuvel, the local employment agency formed a joint- venture with The Royal Dutch Moor Company' (or " Koninklijke Nederlandsche Heidemaatschappij" in Dutch); the part of the company involved with land reclamation and development still exists today under the name Arcadis.
The development of the nature park started in 1950 with the construction of a lake; connected to a decorative ponds with a channel, forests and recreation facilities.
For the construction of Gondoletta the channel had to be diverted to create a closed circuit; it no longer connects to the canoe -pond but curves back to the Decorative Pond.
The ride’s boarding platform uses a rotating disk, a system later implemented in Carnival Festival, Fata Morgana and Piraña.
The boats themselves were originally designed for Fata Morgana, the ride that opened in 1986 on another water location in the park.
The softly playing music in the boats is harp concert Allegro Brillante (11 minutes) from François-Adrien Boieldieu from his Concerto pour Harpe et Orchestre en ut majeur Op.82 (1801). The same music can be heard at the Little Mermaid.

Jokies Wereld
Jokies World is a souvenir shop next to Carnival Festival; the shop derives its theme from this attraction and its host: Jokie (the Prrretneus). Everything sold here are related to the 'brand' Jokie, which focuses on babies and toddlers; in addition, other souvenirs are sold here as well. The store was designed by Jeroen Verheij and opened in 2012 with the introduction of the new Jokies in the adjacent attraction. Previously, the stores Jokie de Prrretneus Souvenirs (1984-1997) and Het Valies (1998-2011) were located at this location.

One of the controversial scenes in this ride which will be changed as a subproject in a much larger technical maintenance plan in March 2019. Dark residents in Africa with nose rings and thick lips today raise questions from different population groups. And we should no longer show the slavery past in this way. The Netherlands is breaking through in this area. Everything should be politically correct.

Gondoletta 06/09/2023 12h50
Boat trip Gondoletta in Efteling underwent major maintenance in September 2023. The steel cable that connects the boats has been replaced and therefore all 40 boats had to be disconnected and put aside. Behind the scenes, plans are in place to introduce completely new boats, but that project will have to wait a while.
The Gondoletta opened again on Saturday 16/09/2023.

The cheerful "Carnival Festival" (Est.1984) is a dark ride in the "Reizenrijk" Efteling section. The attraction takes visitors through colorful twenty scenes with music and about 280 puppets where various countries are portrayed from different cultures around the world with typical, clichéd characteristics and the music. A well-known figure in this attraction is "Loeki de Leeuw", so visitors continue to say "Asjemenou!".

Truly the highlight of the park.

The Pagoda can be seen from afar, with the high altitude that this attraction reaches not for people who suffer from vertigo. What might help is the large number of children who just get in, so why would you still stand downstairs yourself.
