Had a week in the Cairngorms and went on the hill walk with the Cairngorm Reindeer people. They took us to a 'pen' where there were a couple dozen of reindeer. These were very tame and came right up to people. Perfect for photo opportunities! This one was sort of backlit, stood against a dark sky.

Reindeer seen at Chena village on the Chena River, Fairbanks - Alaska. This village resembles the original Chena Athabascan Indian Village of the early 1900's.
The Athabascan Indians raise reindeer, which are domesticated caribou. [The village is only accessible to visitors who take the Riverboat Discovery tour. Not open to the public.]

Flying Reindeer
Irrefutable evidence that reindeer can fly, which means the story of Rudolph is clearly true and therefore, by natural extension, Father Christmas must be real. Taken near the North Pole (genuinely).
Wishing all who visit my photostream a very happy Christmas. Thanks for all your comments over the last 12 months, they are very much appreciated. I hope you have all been nice!
Me and my friend Ole went out for shooting aurora yesterday as the aurora forecast was good and the sky was clear. We cleared out with the owners of a tourist camp near Tromsø whether we could come take som photos of some reindeers, used for turist sledge tours. Already before we came there the sky exploded in wonderfull auroras. We found the animals and approached them carefully. Some of them were abit scared, but this fellow didn't seem to take futher notice of us. These reindeers are used to people because of their "job". Normally they would panic if we got these close. I used Canon 5D III + Samyang 14mm 2,8 for this photo. Iso 3200, f 2.8, shutterspeed 3.2 seconds (not 4 seconds as I said). The point of view was to low to use a tripod, so I simply put the camera in the snow, using a remote controll for shooting. The focus was put on infinity. Mostly of the photos became useless because of the reindeer moving. Som very few became all sharp. This is just one exposure. It was taken in RAW-format, and then processed in photoshop CC as 16 bit. There were some minor adjustments of clarity, exposure and contrast. It was not nessesary to do major brightness adjustment on the deer and the ground, as there were alot of auroras also outside the frame giving "natural" light. A rope from hanging from the deers neck (connecting it to the ground futher behind) was removed of esthetical reasons. Around the neck, the rope is still visible. Then I used unsharp mask once at full size to crisp the photo up. After downscaling for web, another minor sharpening. Hope this was all. Have a nice weekend

I was surprised to see a reindeer at Nadine's bakery in Tucson's Poets Square neighborhood. It's on Broadway near Swan.
