AUSTRÀLIA B/N 2023

The old Victorian building, on the corner of Pitt and Redfern streets, (Redfern NSW 2016, Austràlia) used to be the local convenience before it was reincarnated into a café. Owners Belle Clarke and Pej Zidei began trade on the corner in February 2018 as Bean and Berry, and became Hunter’s Corner in May.

“Inside you’ll find stuff from vintage shops in England, family hand-me-downs from my mum and grandmother, stuff from Mexico, Vanuatu, the Philippines and Japan,” explains self-proclaimed collectomaniac Belle.

The café is the home of Sydney artist Scott Marsh’s mural, which depicts Tony Abbott marrying himself. The pro same-sex marriage statement has been met with resounding support from café goers and passers-by.

“We’ve had people come and get engaged in front of it and take wedding photos next to it. We’re all about inclusivity and we’re very proud to wear such a beautiful and important art work.”

Sadly, in the wake of the triumphant Yes vote, an outbreak of mural defacing has occurred around Sydney. Scott Marsh’s newest mural on the Botany View Hotel in Newtown has been defaced, as well as the mural of much-loved icon George Michael in Erskenville.

The mural at Hunter’s Corner remains untouched by the defacers – let’s hope it stays that way.

"...Ora tu pensa: un pianoforte. I tasti iniziano. I tasti finiscono. Tu sai che sono 88, su questo nessuno può fregarti. Non sono infiniti, loro. Tu, sei infinito, e dentro quei tasti, infinita è la musica che puoi fare. Loro sono 88. Tu sei infinito."

Alessandro Baricco - "Novecento"

"...You now think: take piano. Keys begin, keys end. You know there are 88 of them. Nobody can tell you any different. They are not infinite. You're infinite... And on those keys, the music that you can make... is infinite. They are 88. You are infinite."

And listen.....

Open the door!

Varanasi (India) - I passed this street every morning on my way to the banks of the Ganges. I noticed that these two dogs were always there, in the morning or at night, when the store on the left was closed. Sometimes other dog friends would join them to lounge around and enjoy the last moments of freshness. It wasn't systematic, but I was able to observe on several occasions that one of the dogs was insistently observing the door on the poster. I didn't have the courage to tell him that this door would never open for him. He's a street dog and he'll stay that way. Unless he reincarnates as an apartment dog

The day enters through the door which creeks dreadfully. There is no such thing as a new soul ("everything in nature is ressurection" - Voltaire). All of us have been reincarnating (rebirth of energy) for millions of years so in truth there is no death. It is said that human subconscious always keeps some dim memories of previous lives. Howveer not recalling is a blessing in disguise that allows us to start all over again. What matters is this life, now. Ppl who understand Karma (intentional action, a deed done deliberately through body, speech or mind, a law of moral causation, like Newston's 3rd law) and rebirth see life in a better perspective. Ppl with strong and unexpected affinities for certain places may have them due to past lives connections. Life is about learning karmic lessons and the evolution of the soul (continuous thought sequence). There is no permanent rest in this cycle of birth and death. In fact, the goal would be to not reincarnate anymore, to become free from this ceaseless cycle so the soul would finally rest, but this means that you're spiritually advanced and high up on the path of evolution, attained Nirvana and gained supreme happiness. If you've ever experienced some extraordinary feelings, memories or sensations that you can't explain that is the sign that you might have touched the "other side".

I did when i saw this picture: i0.wp.com/www.themammothreflex.com/wp-content/uploads/201....

Such a violent emotion that i burst out crying in front of it at Steve McCurry's exhibition.

And i might have seen something like what? a million pictures?

Beirut – Postcards From Italy

"The times we had

oh, when the wind would blow with rain and snow

were not all bad

we put our feet just where they had, had to go

never to go

the shattered soul

following close but nearly twice as slow

in my good times

there were always golden rocks to throw

at those who, those who admit defeat too late

those were our times, those were our times

and i will love to see that day

that day is mine

when she will marry me outside with the willow trees

and play the songs we made

they made me so

and i would love to see that day

that day was mine"

Philosophers and religious fanatics argue as to when the Soul enters the Body --- is it conception, sometime during the growth, or when you're born?

And I think we're witnessing that happening right here and now.

All I know is that I wouldn't mind being reincarnated as a high-flying, soaring Hawk.

Actually, the most amazing part of this image is there are now 3 Hawks soaring together, after years of watching the pair it's nice to see a new juvenile tagging along.....

The little street singer

Pushkar (India) - After Gujarat, I continue my Indian stroll to immerse myself in the atmosphere again, before returning there at the end of September.

Here I stop at Pushkar, one of the many holy Indian cities. Bathing in the sacred lake is one of the many essential pilgrimages that every self-respecting Hindu must make at least once in his life, if he wants to have a chance of reincarnating after his death.

In the photo, no view of the lake, but the portrait of a little street singer. Aged 16 when this photo was taken, she performed in front of pilgrims and tourists, accompanied by her older musician brother.

I had a vertical portrait whose composition and facial expression I liked. Unfortunately, there is a slight focus defect. A little too tight for my taste, this portrait at least has the advantage of being clear.

Special note to the management: I'd like to be reincarnated as a well-taken-care-of house cat, pretty please, just like mine. Thank you, appreciate it!

CN RDC number 1501 reincarnated as a geo car, scans the EMR Mattawamkeag Subdivision as the car heads for Saint John on September 23rd, 2023. Having crossed into the US at Van Buren on MNR, the 1501 worked its way down off of MNR to EMR at Millinocket, then to NBSR at McAdam, and back to CN at Saint John.

This catch was completely by chance, after I heard 1501 get paper south out of Millinocket. Unfortunately lighting was pretty bad, since they had to wait for EMR 909 to come on duty, to pull the rear of 910's train off the bypass to let them through, before shoving it back up onto the Millinocket Sub, for 120 to grab that night.

Lake Yamdrok (羊卓雍錯湖), Tibet, China

Lake Yamdrok is about 170 km (110 mi) southwest of Lhasa. The surface elevation is 4,441 m (14,570 ft)

Lake Yamdrok is considered a sacred lake and is said to be able to help Tibetans find the reincarnated soul of the Dalai Lama. After a Dalai Lama passes away, the senior monks are responsible to find the boy in whom the reincarnated soul of the Dalai Lama has gone to abide. They come to Lake Yamdrok to chant and pray, and throw hada (a piece of silk used as a blessing object) and other holy articles into the lake to get the reflection of the specific location of the Dalai Lama's soul.

606 makes it's grand return, reincarnated as King Tut. Not what I'd hoped here, SEPTA had some other plans, forcing an emergency relocation to the platforms end. There will be other chances, hopefully.

I cannot count the number of times or hours that I have spent tracking and attempting to photograph the Pileated Woodpecker. They are not hard to find as they have an extremely loud knock when pecking for prey. Their call is also very loud and distinctive, often alerting me to their departure from my area. Over the years I have captured a few shots milliseconds before they dash away. Wednesday morning was the exception.

While walking the trails around Loop Island in New Albany, a shadow cut across the trail in front of me just 10-12 feet ahead. The shrill in flight call overhead alerted me to its identity, but experience told me not to get too excited as I assumed it would continue on its way, across the lake and out of range. To my surprise, it landed in a tree only 30-40 feet ahead…in perfect light…and started posing and twisting about as if a supermodel had been reincarnated into this young man. I obliged its apparent need for an impromptu photo shoot until fatigue set I and I had to lower my lens to relax my arms. He then made a quick exit out of sight.

As I resumed my hike in the woods, I took in the crisp clean December air and brilliant blue skies above, a little freaked out about what had just transpired and counting blessings along the way. Within minutes of the last, another shadow broke the stillness of my surroundings. Another male Pileated Woodpecker, maybe the same one, landing a few dozen yards ahead. I remember thinking to myself it the middle of another photo session just how crazy this was, as if I were being sought out. After taking another two-dozen shots, I verbally thanked him and continued on my way. When his shadow passed in front of me for a third time I found myself in one of those “What-the-what is going on here” moments.

What a difference a week can make in a life. You see, exactly one-week prior and to the hour I was being wheeled into the operating room for surgery. It was a no big deal, minor surgery to repair something stupid that I choose to do a few months prior. The surgery was the easy part, sitting still for the next four straight days was maddening.

From an OR table to being stalked by a woodpecker in one week, blessed!

Merry Christmas to you and yours!

I use the term daylight loosely, it was a dull morning. Yet again it shows that the HST was a brilliant design, it takes so many liveries and looks great it all of them.

After embarrassing myself as told in the story with this post: flic.kr/p/2nESwS7 I vowed to get it right this time. Consequently I had no choice but to return here for my last shot of the day during this, the biggest show in steam of the year.

This third outing of the reincarnated 'Reading Rambles' was once again led by Reading and Northern 4-8-4 2102 which returned to service this year after a more than three decade slumber. Built in the Reading Company's own shops in 1945 the stout T-1 was doubled headed for one trip only with long time steam star 425. Almost two decades older, the high-drivered 4-6-2 light Pacific was built by Baldwin in 1928 for the Gulf, Mobile & Northern. The steam duo is leading 19 cars with a sold out train of nearly 800 passengers headed back to North Reading after a day long outing to Jim Thorpe.

May the great holiday light up the sky and shed light into our souls and hearts. Merry Christmas, congratulations to all, with the birth of Jesus, may unearthly love for others be born, our soul will be reincarnated and our world will become kinder and more careful. May this holiday sow understanding, mutual assistance and sincerity in our homes. And Faith, Hope and Love will be faithful companions in life.

another type of funeral monument in Kete Kusu

Funerary monuments

In this community, the physical relationship between the dead and the living continues long afterwards, through a ritual called Ma'nene ('doing something for the grandparents'), symbolised by second funerals.

Every two years or so, families open the coffins of their deceased for a grand reunion with the dead. They remove them from their graves, clean them and put on new clothes. This practice shows the respect and love that the living have for their dead.

According to Toraya belief, the funeral marks the moment when the soul leaves the earth for good and begins its long and difficult journey to Pooya, the final stage of the afterlife, where the soul is reincarnated.

And because they believe that buffaloes are the carriers of the soul in the afterlife, families sacrifice a large number of them to facilitate the journey of the deceased.

Bob Sorrell was an automotive designer and builder of the 1950s. His work includes building land speed racers, show cars, drag racers, hot rods, customs, and tether cars. His fiberglass creations were outrageous and memorable, the earliest being the SR-100 roadster. It was a Sorrell original design that was unique and creative with its unified fender-to-body expression and envelope-design.

The Sorrell-Larkin SR-200 began life as a Lister-Chevrolet. In 1960 it was involved in a tragic accident at the Los Angeles Times Grand Prix at Riverside. The wreckage was acquired by Bob Sorrell and had it brought back to his shop, where he and Jim Larkin shared space. The car required extensive modifications to the frame and many other mechanical components. A fiberglass body finished in patriotic colors was carefully and expertly crafted, and based on past Sorrell designs (the SR-100).

It was involved in another crash at Riverside in 1962, close to where the Lister had come to a rest in 1960. This time, an extensive fire transformed the wreckage into ash. The car was totally destroyed. The blaze was so intense that track workers had to use a skid loader to cover the flaming wreckage in dirt. This SR-200 was reincarnated by the original builders, Mike and Jim Larkin, who used the original models and technology they developed back in the late 1950s. After the original designer, Bob Sorrell, passed in 2003, they replicated a car that no longer existed. The original SR-200 raced twice at the Riverside Raceway, once in 1961, then again at a Cal Club race in 1962, where it was destroyed by fire in a crash. Unable to extinguish the fire, which has spread to the magnesium wheels, a skip-loader was brought in and the car was buried where it sat, at Turn 1. Everyone, including the Larkin brothers, believed to this day that the car still lie buried under what is now condos.

Since it took almost ten years for the Larkin brothers to finish this project, advancing age and health issues evolved which prevented the brothers from going racing with their SR-200. In late 2013, Mike Larkin sold the project to Wes Abendroth. Wes has been racing and restoring specials for over twenty years and, after working on the Sorrell for three months, he was able to put it in the proper livery for vintage racing.

This car was accepted to the 2014 Monterey Historic Races and The Coronado Speed Festival with the driving duties given to Wes' good friend, Bill Sadler, then 83 years of age: he was one of the oldest living drivers currently competing in sanctioned events.

St. Indract's Chapel

St. Dominick,

Plymouth, England, U.K.

03-23-25

When I arrived at the Higher Chapel Farm in Saltash, deep in the southern English countryside, it was nearing sundown. Early that morning I'd checked out of my B&B in Sennen Cove, and visited St. Ives and Pendennis Castle, along with a few other stops, while maneuvering my small SUV through various hedgerows. It had been another long productive day, and I absolutely loved the farm when I arrived.

After meeting the hosts, and settling in my room, I took a walk through one of the hedgerows to the Tamar River. Here at a bend in the river, I photographed this little chapel.

A placard on the building states: "In 689 AD, Saint Indract and his sister St. Dominica, of Irish Royal birth, landed near this spot. The Holy Well is at Greenbank nearby. St. Dominica's Parish Church - two miles inland - in the village of St. Dominick, dates from the 13th century."

The placard says nothing about the small chapel. There were announcements with worship times but that was about it. After I got home I did some research. I didn't get over to St. Dominick, so didn't see the larger church. However, The Cornish Bird blog states: "In June 1959 a tiny building on the quay that had variously been used as a custom’s house, a coal merchant’s office and a clerking office was reincarnated as a chapel."

The Jewish nation awaits the coming of Elijah to precede the coming of the Messiah.

For Christians this prophecy was fulfilled in the gospel. After Elijah appears during the Transfiguration alongside Moses, Jesus explains to his disciples that John the Baptist, recently beheaded by Herod Antipas, had been Elijah reincarnate. Commentators have said that Moses appearance represented the law, while Elijah's appearance represented the prophets.

Sorry for the lateness of this, I came home from the audition last night to find my modem box blinking with a VERY worrying red light. In my experience a red light is never, ever a good thing.

So, I'm off work tomorrow as my dad is visiting and then it's the weekend, so I have a horrible feeling I'm going to be offline for a couple of days. More if I give in to my urges and try and fix the damn modem with a hammer.

Karni Mata Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Karni Mata at Deshnoke, 30 km from Bikaner, in Rajasthan, India. It is also known as the Temple of Rats.

The temple is famous for the approximately 25,000 black rats that live, and are revered, in the temple. These holy rats are called kabbas, and many people travel great distances to pay their respects. The temple draws visitors from across the country for blessings, as well as curious tourists from around the world.

Legend has it that Laxman, son of Karni Mata , drowned in a pond in Kapil Sarovar in Kolayat Tehsil while he was attempting to drink from it. Karni Mata implored Yama, the god of death, to revive him. First refusing, Yama eventually relented, permitting Laxman and all of Karni Mata's male children to be reincarnated as rats.

[Arrogance causes harm, humility benefits. If you are a tengu, you make mistakes, if you re humble, you get help] - Confucius' Book of Sutras

-----

Tengu, in Japanese folklore, is a type of mischievous supernatural being, sometimes considered the reincarnated spirit of one who was proud and arrogant in life. Tengu are renowned swordsmen and are said to have taught the military arts to the Minamoto Yoshitsune. They live in trees in mountainous areas. A group of tengu is headed by a chief, who is depicted with a prominent nose, angry and threatening expression, dressed in red robes and carrying a feather fan. He is served by a group of retainers called koppa tengu (“leaflet” tengu) who act as his messengers. In popular art they are shown as smaller winged creatures with long red noses or beaklike mouths.

Mt Takao has long been associated with the Tengu - since about the 14th century - through its ties with the practice of mountain asceticism. Tengu - which in an early stage of their history were considered disruptive entities against Buddism - had the reputation of teasing particulalry ascetic monks whe were in search for illumination. Later developments saw the Tengu as keeper of Mt. Takao and guardians agains any evil doers. Even to this day, you can see Tengu iconography all over Mt. Takao.

Yesterday (8/27) was one of those days where I should have been looking for a lottery ticket. While my first thought to spend the afternoon with an empty stone train returning from Carrolton only resulted in a nice drive through the Ohio countryside, I hooked up with a 221 train leaving Brewster after abandoning the stone train. The stone train was in Carrolton like I hoped and would have had a high hood GP35 leading west, but they were behind on unloading and wouldn't have had much of a run in good light. Part way back from Carrolton I heard this 221 train get a warrant west from Brewster and took a chance catching it. It showed up maybe 10 seconds after I arrived at my first shot in Kidron. Normally the Brewster sub is 40mph and catching a train multiple times doesn't happen. The track is diagonal and the roads follow the typical Ohio grid. But when it's hot (>90), the railroad puts on a 25mph heat restriction that makes all the difference. 7 spots later, they were setting off their train in Brighton siding when thunderstorms rolled in. 221 normally handles manifest traffic from Brewster to Hartland where it is forwarded to NS or CN. But this train was mostly coke and was left in Brighton siding to be taken to ArcelorMIttal in Cleveland sometime this week. This spot by a soybean field is west of Lodi at Sanborn Rd. The sticker on the side commemorates the 30th anniversary of the reincarnated W&LE. For not leaving the house until 12:30, it was a nice 225 mile trip though Ohio farmland.

While not my first choice, at least this 275 had something to offer other than an AC44C6M leader. In fact, the consist had not even one of the reincarnated Dash 9s. Two ET44ACs did the honors up front with the freshly painted D&H unit, NS 1080, serving as the rear DP.

Very clean "Alco Adam" and "Reincarnated Sluggo" switching the yard and St Anthony. Thanks to Adam for the heads up. Nice to see some color on a seriously gloomy day.

Builds beyond comprehension.

Techniques reincarnated to its fullest potential.

I couldn't even put together as many as I wanted, every one of every persons builds were fabulous in there own ways, there was no way to include all of them.

I hope you guys have a fancy new year, and may you all have a good night :3

Manufactured from 1959-1980, thepredecessor to the Electra Park Avenue (1975-1990), Park Avenue (1991-2012), and its “resurrection” as the the reincarnated Roadmaster (1991-1996).

If the 90s Roadmaster were a little longer, it would’ve been the 225 of the 90s. The ‘91-‘96 sedan was 215.8” in length just 9.2” shorter than its 1980 predecessor a decade prior.

In Greek mythology Lethe, the stream of oblivion, was one of the rivers of the underworld and its goddess, where all those who drank from it experienced complete forgetfulness . Some ancient Greeks believed that souls were made to drink from the river before being reincarnated, so they would not remember their past lives.

I think that memory is fascinating. It's powerful and imperfect at the same time. It can be extremly selective, but sometimes it seems almost a necessity. We remember the good experiences and forget or alterate the bad ones.

Inspired on all the beautiful floating/water shots on Flickr and especially on Brooke Shaden. Living ten minutes from the beach, I couldn't resist to take mine too.

The penguin was a gift for my mum from my brother and me, many years ago. It has even lost a little its form because of all the squizing: it's the perfect antistress toy.

PS: I have more photos I'd like to edit from this shoot. After all, I spent more than an hour in the water!

PPS: For those who are wondering, it took me a lot of time to finish this. Basically, it's like painting but with Photoshop.

PPPS: As a curious fact, Romans considered that there was really a river with this propieties between Northern Portugal and Galicia, Spain.
