My handmade Angel Wings Soap is the perfect soap for dry or troubled skin. Great as a facial bar or all over, this bar contains both shea and cocoa butters as well as an abundance of skin loving oils such as Olive and Rice Bran, both known for their moisturizing properties. In additional I've also added goat and cow's milk to this bar. This handcrafted soap leaves behind a bit of your body's own natural oils to help smooth and rehydrate your skin. This soap leaves many users feeling moisturized, not oily or greasy. Also makes a great shampoo bar or even a shaving soap. You'll really enjoy the rich, lotion like lather it produces.
Made using the cold process soapmaking method, my Angel Wings Soap is an enticing romantic blend of juicy machitosh apples enhanced and sweetened by rich French jasmine, cyclamen, and fresh rose petals. It is made from all natural ingredients except for the fragrance. Bar weighs 4oz. - 4.5oz.
So an update with the vinyl/rubber stuff on nylon hair, it HAS made a huge difference in texture to the nylon. Before, even after multiple hair conditionings, the nylon felt sort of dry and brittle but after coating it in the car interior liquid, the hair feels much more elastic and glossy.
As with the flat ironing, it did managed to straighten a few more millimetres of hair but the last 5mm seems to be impossible to really hydrate or straighten.
So, if you got a lot of dolls with nylon hair like the Disney Store dolls or MGAE dolls, I definitely recommend using car interior spray meant to help aging vinyl and plastic to rehydrate dried out nylon hair.
Split Gill , Distinctive bracket-like fungus whose gill edges split and turn up when dry and close up when rehydrated. Up to 3cm across, fan-shaped and lobed, with a narrow stipe-like attachment to substrate, margin irregular and undulating, with tooth-like projections, surface velvety or hairy, greyish beige to white and concentrically zoned with age. Gills fanning out from point of attachment, pinkish grey, Stipe absent or rudimentary, Habitat fallen wood of deciduous trees, bizarrely, also increasingly found on polythene-wrapped straw bales, locally common in SE England,....
It wasn't our initial plan to summit this stunning mountain. In fact, we only learned of it the day before we ventured out to it after finding out that the area around our first choice had been closed. What a lucky break for us! It was quite the adventure, with 12 km's of rough Forestry Service Road driven on our poor little vehicle, then 16.7 km's return distance walking and 1472 m's of total elevation gain. It was a very hot day, and it took 10 hours to complete, due to some steep scrambling, the time used to cross many snow patches, some precariously positioned, and the many stops to rehydrate.
We last ate this noodle in Clementi since 3 years ago. This is the first time we cooked since moving to Punggol 21. Somehow, udon is preferred.
These types of local yellow noodles, round or flat, are usually coated with oil; it is best to rinse them with running tap water just before cooking.
Use and purpose of alkaline water:
Alkaline water, also known as “gan sui” in Cantonese and “air abu” in Malay, is a clear solution of the salts sodium carbonate and potassium carbonate, and sometimes sodium phosphate.
Because it is often called “lye” water, it is frequently confused with lye or caustic soda, which is sodium hydroxide, a much harsher chemical that has limited culinary applications in the West.
In the Asian kitchen, alkaline water has few and specific uses. The characteristic springiness of Hong Kong style “mee” noodle is due to “gan sui”, which is added to noodle dough to firm up its texture, and give it a yellow tint.
It does the same for glutinous rice in “kee chang” (yellow alkaline glutinous rice dumplings) and in their Malay cousin, “kuih lopes”.
Steamed rice-flour dough, for example, in Nyonya “kuih kosui” and “ang koo kuih” skin, can also be given a firmer consistency by carefully measured amounts of alkaline water.
Dried cuttlefish or squid are sometimes briefly soaked in “gan sui” for the opposite effect - it makes them more tender when rehydrated.
As Asians do not fancy the slightly sour, acidic flavour of slowly fermented bread dough so beloved in the West, dim sum chefs add alkaline water to buns “pau” dough to neutralise any yeasty, sour overtones.
Alkaline water is sometimes used as a rising agent in the same way that baking soda is. For instance, it is stirred into “ma lai kou” batter, where it reacts with acids in the brown sugar to produce bubbles that yield a light, fluffy steamed cake.

San Jose Fire Department crews battled a fire in the creek behind Kelley Park in San Jose in July, 2012. The night time fire was escalated to a Tier 3 Fire, the wildland equivalent of a 3 alarm fire.
There were multiple fires burning in different areas of the creek causing problems for fire fighters. The blaze was under control about 3 hours after it started.
Fire Associates of Santa Clara Valley were on scene to establish a Rehab sector where hard working firefighters get a chance to rehydrate and take a break.

Apple Cider Seaweed, Horseradish, Fresh & Preserved Apple
To this date, probably one of the best plates from the kitchen. The flavours present were both refreshing and complimentary. Essentially scallop ceviche on an apple and celeriac remoulade with apple cider rehydrated seaweed and apple cider foam. An overall stunning combination of elements and an excellent palate whetter.
What I learnt from this plate was the fact that November (early winter) is the best time to have scallops. Reason? The temperature drops in the ocean and the scallops absorb and store as much nutrients as they can to get them through the winter. The result? Plump, sweet bivalves, proven here in silky and supple specimens that burst with sea fresh brininess. So very good and best highlighted as a ceviche.
Another lesson: 80% of Canadian seaweed goes to Japan. Also, seaweed and apples have similar flavour profiles - that harmony was celebrated here in the apple cider rehydrated seaweed. And the fact that scallops go well with apples.

We cycled hard for 25 miles for fresh organic veg from Villa do Bispo, accompanied by Jane and Nigel (365-er). We caught some sun on the loungers and rehydrated, followed by a sauna, followed by a great evening in Luz in the same company eating and drinking whilst being treated to chilled live jazz.

I've seen Jamie Oliver make his bread recipe twice now, so I decided to give it a try myself. His recipe is pretty easy to follow, and does indeed make tasty bread. It's quite a heavy bread, but that may have been because I forgot to re-stir the yeast after I had rehydrated it, so some of it didn't make it to the dough, and therefore I think I didn't get as much air in there as I could have. In fact, this is my first ever attempt at making bread for myself, so I forgive myself for singeing the tomatoes :)

Since tomorrow, 17 March, is St. Patrick’s Day, Jersey Shore decided to make some “fruit jerky.”
“What better way to celebrate St. Patrick than with dried tomatoes and some other fruits?” said Aggie Ring. “And!!! I pity the poor fool who doesn’t know that a tomato is a fruit.”
“But…” I said. “We’ve never done anything like this before. What if we rip a hole in the fabric of the space-time continuum and destroy the galaxy?”
“Look. If it doesn’t come out well, we can just rehydrate them in some vodka.” said Aggie Ring.
“Oh, Tito’s!” I pleaded.
We went to the grocers. Aggie Ring wanted some really fleshy heirloom tomatoes but they didn’t have any. Aggie Ring made a command decision to go with Roma tomatoes. They’re fairly fleshy. You can’t make dehydrated tomatoes out of salad tomatoes according to the documentation we’ve found. They are great on salads, but not for drying out and maintaining flavor.
A couple of pineapples were picked out that seemed very fresh. In a moment of Aggie Ring lunacy, he picked out some honeydew melon. After letting out his trademark “Evil Aggie Ring™” laugh, Aggie Ring said, “I’ve always been a fool for a good honeydew melon.”
It turned out to be easier to prepare the fruits than any of the beef, pork, or poultry we’ve made jerky from in the past. Wash, peal, slice and throw into the “big ass” dehydrator. No need to marinade.
Aggie Ring cut of the tops of the Roma tomatoes where they had connected to the stem and sliced them vertically down the middle. This way, they form a “pool” or perhaps “jacuzzi” is a better word for the mass of the tomato fruit to form in while the moisture is being pulled out of them. You don’t want the “good stuff” to drip through all of the trays.
The pineapple and honeydew were cut into small pieces and also placed on trays in the dehydrator.
“Well,” said Aggie Ring. “My work here is done. See you guys in about 10 hours.”
I hope this all works out. If not, I’ll have to bring in Texas Aggie Ring’s Austin, Texas buddy “Tito” to see what can be done to get some life back into the fruits.

Quarter the shiitake mushrooms. You can do this before soaking the mushrooms and add everything to the stock at once, but they are easier to cut when rehydrated if you choose to use dried mushrooms.

This is a sad news about Maya, yet all started so well, Maya was not scared at all when arriving home Wednesday at 14.15. She immediately adopted her toy mouse, with whom she had fun like crazy (and us too), and then at the cat tree (photos and video to follow as soon as possible), and there she adopted his radiator hammock!
Unfortunately Maya Thursday morning refused to eat, a condition that would not have worried if we had not noticed that she was trembling! (we though that it is the separation from his brothers and sisters and with her mom), but to be sure Manon and me took her to the vet, result : Maya has a virus, many fever and don't eat! The vet mentioned either typhus or coryza or FIP (in the last case it is fatal).
On medication and under the watchful eyes of Manon and me, we thought today Maya will eat when the fever is down .. But this is not the case. She has not eaten since Wednesday at 14h30! too long for a kitten ... and have a lot of fever !! I went back to the vet this afternoon : results Maya must be hospitalized for to be rehydrated otherwise it will not pass the weekend. We are very sad.
I will give you news as soon as I know more ... and forgive me if I will not comment on all your pictures!! I'll try a little tonight, but after two sleepless nights I'm K.O !
Lots of kisses for you all !
The Sick Day
Another odd day, we had to take one of our cats Quiver to the vets where she spent the day on a drip being rehydrated, and as a bonus she got properly groomed so scruffy mcmuffy is no more. I have also been very under the weather but whilst I don’t know what is wrong with me, the good news is it’s not Covid. Anyway here is Quiver sat on me after lights out,
Today was friday on the last day of the term with my beginning English class. They planned a full morning/afternoon outing of physical and English vocab games, food, and picture-taking. At one point, I had to get up and sing a song. At another, I had to flap my wings and talk like a parrot. I was really impressed that my students communicated in English 90% of the time, and were full of energy the whole day. I ended up missing a meeting with my boss because I was so engaged, but at least I caught a few moments like this one where Vi was rehydrating during the hot afternoon under the HCMC sun.

Candied Walnuts
Ingredients:
240g walnuts, shelled
300g sugar
300ml water
vegetable oil for deep frying
Method:
1. Blanch the walnuts in water until the water turns brown. This removes some of the bitter tannins from the walnuts as well as rehydrating them to prevent burning later on.
2. Drain the blanched walnuts.
3. Make a sugar syrup of equal parts sugar and water and add blanched walnuts.
4. Cook over high heat until the syrup becomes thick and bubbly. Reduce heat and continue to cook until the syrup colours slightly and becomes a pale yellow.
5. Heat a wok of oil to 160°C.
6. Drain the walnuts and add to the oil to poach. The oil will continue to caramelise the walnuts.
7. When the walnuts turn dark brown, remove from oil and spread in a metal pan to cool. Separate any walnuts that have stuck together.

Lobster Nage
Lobster in vin jaune, white asparagus, morels.
Notes: The nage was smooth and buttery and redolent with a rich, white wine flavor. The layers of flavors were as wide as they were deep.
The two nuggets of lobster tail were PERFECTLY cooked: soft, not quite silky (like butter-poached lobster) - having just the slightest "bounce."
The real treasure inside this soup were thinly sliced cross-sections of asparagus and MORELS: tiny, baby ones - the first of the season. (I asked. Our server said they were not rehydrated, but rather fresh.)
Overall, a warm, comforting, and flavor-packed course.

This is a not so great axial cross section of a developing sporophyte while still part of the gametophyte. The sporophyte growth would have been to the right. This material proved very difficult to section and I would have preferred a more central section.

On Tuesday August 24th San Jose Fire Department responded to an outside fire on Moorpark Rd. The fire had started in the rear yard of a house burning a power pole, transformer and some trees, and then spread to the eaves and into the attic. With several homes in the area shingled with wood shakes, firefighters not only had the fire to contend with, but also initiated embers patrols throughout the neighborhood. Due to the conditions, a second alarm was called for relief fire crews and a special call was made for Fire Associates assistance. Firefighters were primarily in need of rest and rehydration.
With several other fire and hazmat incidents in progress throughout San Jose at the time SJFD called on Santa Clara County Fire Department to provide apparatus for the second alarm, while the first alarm consisted of San Jose Units, together with a second B/C from Santa Clara City.
Firefighting is hot, physical work. It is critically important that firefighters have a place to rest and cool down, as well as plenty of cold water and gatorade to rehydrate themselves. An important part of the rehab process involves medics being on hand to check the vital signs of all the fire fighters - their blood pressure, core temperature, CO2 levels and pulse rates must fall within defined gudielines before they can be released to return to the fire fight or leave the scene.

Something you can put together in what, 10 minutes? Then of course it's 20 mins in the oven, but well....
Throw together some rehydrated TVP (or tuna fish, or meat, or whatever you have in hand), chopped carrots and mushrooms and pre-made sofrito or salsa, stir-fry it all together, use some pre-cooked lasagna noodles and cheese, and you may add bechamel sauce, which you can put together while the TVP stir-fry cooks, and then just build the lasagna, easy-peasy. Took me about 10-15 minutes of making and then 20 minutes of baking. Delicious!

Today’s hike was a total bust. I made it to the hiking area and again I was the only person out there when I started. I hit the trail and made it to the first marker, but even at 6:00 in the morning here you can get over-heated. Between the hot and humid air and the exercise exertion, I was feeling dizzy and weak, so I had to stop and come home. I rehydrated and always find that Canada Dry seems to come like the perfect remedy when I feel sick.
It was a disappointment, but I live and learn in every training that I do. I know that I won’t have that hot, humid air in Colorado- I’ll have a whole new set of challenges to face when it comes to weather (cold, altitude, etc.). I don’t like using the word defeated- I was just temporarily stopped. Tomorrow I will go right back at it and will simply do my best to prepare for those beautiful mountains in my future!

This is a polarized light transverse image under crossed polarizers of a carpel in the Gynoecium of Asarum canadense, or wild ginger. Birefringent material is present in the ovule walls as shown by the bright (white) spots outlining the wall edge. These are reported to be calcium oxalate crystals. There are also optically active xylem present in this image. In that case, optical activity is the result of ordered cellulose.

The long drought of July August, September and extending into October now has to 2nd October 2017 seen more than a dozen Bangalows growing at Raintrees Native and Rainforest Gardens at Diamond Beach on the NSW Mid North Coast simply give up on life. Many have survived worse droughts but for some reason this one has taken a much heavier toll on the species.
Most of those that have succumbed have been growing directly next to a larger specimen which has presumably had more capacity to extract moisture than the smaller adjacent palm.
In all cases the trunk of the palm atrophies, shrinks and squares off in profile as its cells constrict due to lack of water. Once this happens the weight of the otherwise green frons above becomes too great for the trunk to support and the pam head just drops over in the crownshaft. Affected palms may live on for a considerable time, even years like this if rain comes regularly enough to allow the trunk to rehydrate however the palm is doomed and a centre frond will not generally re-establish.
In the case of these specimens I'll take them down and probably not replace them.
If the long dry extends into late October 2017 and worse, into November then other palms could also suffer the same fate. Fingers crossed for at least some spring rains although if recent years are any guide we are likely to see the dry continue for a while yet.

The pairing of two British greats.
This was my first and only experience with both products. I was informed by Uncle R that the Eccles cake from St. JOHN was quite well known, and so I received it with much anticipation. I found the pastry flaky, but crispy thick (almost like toast!), and the filling of rehydrated sultanas sweet but not saccharine. This was a nice contrast to the crumbly cheese - a generous slice served at room temperature - which did have a nice milk flavour, wasn't strong (can I be as bold as to compare it in lightness and "creaminess" to mozzarella?) nor oily.
The warriors jumped off a C-130 at Camp Guernsey and hit the ground marching; issued supplies for the next few days and tasked with finding their way in and out of the land navigation course where they encountered a few surprises to be dealt with and evaluated on. Opportunities to rest and rehydrate were few and far between during the four-day competition.
The Pandora's Box event tested the soldiers' knowledge of three weapons systems. Just a couple of the blindfolded warriors were able to assemble three weapons randomly placed in a footlocker.
BENTO CONTEST 2011
Name: Victoria
From: Canada
Description:
This bento is my attempt at recreating the lid of a music/jewellery box I have. This box is really important to me because 1) my grandmother bought it for me from a rummage sale last year and 2) because I keep some of my favourite treasures safe in it. :)
The background is a bed of white sushi rice dyed with beet juice and mixed with shredded beets. The tree trunks, sailboat boat frame, and base portion of Mt. Fuji are fried tofu. The tree foliage and bushes are broccoli florets. The darkest piece of land is rehydrated seaweed, and the lighter one is raw and blanched baby spinach. The rocks (in the centre) are made from leftover roast beef. The building is made from orange bell pepper, tamoyaki, and nori. The snow on Mt. Fuji and the sail on the boat are daikon; the clouds at the base of Mt. Fuji and the flowers are shredded daikon (the pink flowers were died with some leftover beet juice).
The box is just a tupperware container. :P
This is my first bento contest/attempt at making a bento this elaborate, so I hope you like it! ^_^
