Achtung!

Attention fraud waiter is released for the boss!

Waiters earn only through a tip, payment by chef and owner extremely low!!

This restaurant is an absolute fraud! A shashlik for 100 grams = 175 UHA Hrywna 17 € for each 100 grams was ordered less then 200 grams and a good pork chop was served for about 150 grams but on the bill then no less than 340 grams charged. The drinks menu of wine Sauvignon from Chile for 420 UHA = Hrywna but on the invoice for 448 = Hrywna UHA. But now comes the hammer for bread 62.88 UHA = 6,20 €. In the complaint it went to 2-times correction and greet with the call to the police because other guests helped me they also heard on the order of 150 grams to 200 grams were on invoice then UHA = 350 = Hrywna. Yes, if paid in order and then for 2 persons = 1668.93 UAH proud 150 €. In the hotel everything entered into EXCEL and the addition of the statement was false but only UHA = 1656.09 Hrywna. But the salad instead of 86 UHA = Hrywna now 104.03 UHA = Hrywna and for the second person 104.65 UHA = Hrywna.

End of the story: An Ukrainian businesswoman called the administrator of the restaurant and has complained about what happened. She has only mentioned that I was formerly a diplomat in Kiev, and at once the answer: "please do not already public". The money would be refunded on the next night in cash. The next day, no calls nothing forgotten everything again. What kind of honorable merchants, but the fraudster is probably correct, as it should be otherwise, too bad.

But then:

According to this publication here at this page on the internet then the phone was silent no longer. You get your money back immediately and can we please talk about it, we want to learn. The interview took place, the blame was the waiter and was immediately dismissed. Unfair I mean because for at least 240 grams of meat embezzles not a basement as simply and the money then placed in pocket of the waiter. Nobody does no such a thing, not a waiter, if the boss does not embezzles money itself. And as the waiter can manipulate the cash register? The register is manipulated is beyond question, the addition of my bill is wrong. Look my bill. Embezzling does the boss, the VAT of 20%, it is not reported and who pays cash without a credit card receive a 10% discount. What a deal for the chief and another 10% plus him. The administrator a woman of 24 years was pretty, then with a very special reason: We are serious our staff has at least 3 years experience and the waiters are dependent on the tip, because the salary is very low. This is the case here. Even better for the boss, what kind of person who take advantage of people, oh pooh. Here one can not simply go more and what typ of car comes after Porsche Cayenne boss?

I hope soon the tax office and the jail, that would be poetic justice.

I will withdraw the assessment only if the waiter is restored, I owe it to the poor waiter

The limited edition 12*3" CD version of the Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space album.

The Louisiana Supreme Court Building, of Beaux Arts-style and originally called the "New Courthouse Building" was originally built from 1908-1910. Its purpose was to "clear slums" while replacing the Cabildo and Presbytère as the seat of local justice. For fifty years the Louisiana Supreme Court and a spate of lower courts and offices drew swarms of glad-handed politicians, judges and lawyers, plaintiffs and defendants, juries and commissioners, clerks and secretaries, librarians, and even an occasional historian through its sculpted hallways. But in 1958 the Supreme Court departed for newer quarters and others soon followed. The Louisiana Wild Life and Fisheries Museum moved in, but when they left, the building closed and was allowed to decay. After an extensive renovation in 2004, the Louisiana Supreme Court moved back into the courthouse, and were joined by Court of Appeal-Fourth Circuit, the State Judicial Administrator's Office, the Law Library of Louisiana, an Attorney General's Office and, in time, a legal museum. The building is guarded by a statue of former United States Chief Justice, Edward Douglas White.

The Brooklyn Bridge (originally the New York and Brooklyn Bridge) stretches 5,989 feet (1825 m) over the East River (main span of 1,595 feet 6 inches) connecting Manhattan and Brooklyn. On completion, it was the largest suspension bridge in the world--fifty percent longer than any previously built, and the first steel-wire suspension bridge. For several years, the towers were also the tallest structures in the Western Hemisphere.

Designed by an engineering firm owned by John Augustus Roebling, the bridge is built from limestone, granite, and Rosendale natural cement in Gothic style, with characteristic pointed arches above the passageways through the stone towers. Roebling and his firm had built smaller suspension bridges, such as the John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge in Cincinnati, and the Waco Suspension Bridge in Waco, Texas, that served as prototypes for the final design.

Construction began on January 3, 1870 and the bridge was opened on May 24, 1883. On that first day, a total of 1,800 vehicles and 150,300 people crossed. The bridge cost $15.1 million to build and approximately 27 people died during its construction, including Roebling. As construction was beginning, Roebling's foot was injured by a ferry when it crashed into a wharf; within a few weeks, he died of tetanus caused by the amputation of his toes. His son, Washington, succeeded him, but was stricken with caisson disease (decompression sickness, commonly known as 'the bends'), from working in compressed air in caissons, in 1872. His wife, Emily Warren Roebling, became his aide, learning engineering and communicating his wishes to the on-site assistants. A week after the opening, on May 30, a rumor that the Bridge was going to collapse caused a stampede which crushed 12 people.

Bridges were not tested in wind tunnels until the 1950s. Roebling therefore designed the open truss structure supporting the deck to be six times as strong as he guessed it needed to be. A substitution of inferior qualify wire in the cabling, though, left the bridge just four times stronger, though. Either way, Roebling's design has held up in all conditions over the years.

At various times, the bridge has carried horses, subways (until 1944) and trolley streetcars (until 1950), it currently has 6 lanes for motor vehicles, with a separate walkway along the centerline for pedestrians.

The Brooklyn Bridge was designated a landmark by the New York Landmarks Preservation Commission in 1967.

The Palace of Fine Arts was designed by Bernard Maybeck and constructed for 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition. It is one of the few surviving structures from the Exposition, and the only one still situated on its original site. Built' around a small artificial lagoon, The Palace of Fine Arts is composed of a wide, 1100 foot pergola, an arch formed by rows of Corinthian columns framing a wide walkway, around a central rotunda situated by the water. Ornamentation includes Bruno Louis Zimm's three repeating panels around the entablature of the rotunda representing "The Struggle for the Beautiful" symbolizing Greek culture, while Ulric Ellerhusen supplied the weeping women atop the colonnade and the sculptured frieze and allegorical figures representing Contemplation, Wonderment and Meditation. The underside of the Palace rotunda's dome features eight large insets, which originally contained murals by Robert Reid.

The Palace, one of ten palaces at the heart of the Exhibition--the others being the palaces of Education, Liberal Arts, Manufactures, Varied Industries, Agriculture, Food Products, Transportation, Mines and Metallurgy, and Machinery--was designed to to look like a Roman or Greek ruin. While most of the exposition was demolished, it survived due to the efforts of the Paaace Preservation League. For a time, the Palace housed art exhibits, and during the Great Depression, W.P.A. artists were commissioned to replace the decayed Robert Reid murals on the ceiling of the rotunda. From 1934 to 1942, it was home to eighteen lighted tennis courts. During World War II it was requisitioned by the military for storage of trucks and jeeps. Starting in 1947, the hall was used as a city Park Department warehouse, a telephone book distribution center, a flag and tent storage depot, and a temporary Fire Department headquarters.

By the 1950s, the Palace's structure had in fact fallen into ruins and in 1964 it was demolished, with only the steel structure left standing. The buildings were reconstructed in permanent, light-weight, poured-in-place concrete, and steel I-beams were hoisted into place for the dome of the rotunda. The decorations and sculpture were reconstructed and the only changes were the absence of the murals in the dome, two end pylons of the colonnade, and the original ornamentation of the exhibit hall. In 1969 the former Exhibit Hall became home to the Exploratorium interactive museum, and in 1970 also became the home of the 1,000 seat Palace of Fine Arts Theater.

Jefferson Island / Rip Van Winkle Gardens

5505 Rip Van Winkle Road

New Iberia, Louisiana

Iberia Parish

Atop a coastal salt dome on Lake Peigneur, Rip Van Winkle Gardens is 25 acres surrounding the Joseph Jefferson Home, built in 1870 by acclaimed American actor Joseph Jefferson and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Jefferson purchased "Orange Island" in 1869 and built his winter home here to enjoy the fine hunting and fishing and relatively mild climate of south Louisiana for 36 winter respites from the stage. Though Jefferson performed a great many roles in the theaters around the world, it was the role of Rip Van Winkle, as adapted by Jefferson from the Washington Irving tale that ensured Jefferson's fame. He played the role more than 4,500 times.

After his death in 1905, Jefferson's heirs sold the house and land on March 15, 1917 to John Lyle Bayless, Sr. of Anchorage, Kentucky. His heir, J. Lyle Bayless, Jr., began developing formal gardens surrounding the Joseph Jefferson home in the late 1950's, establishing the "Rip Van Winkle Gardens," named for its former actor-owner. Bayless successfully listed the Jefferson home as a national landmark with the Department of the Interior in 1972 and donated it in 1978 to a foundation which would assure its continued operation for the benefit of the public.

Bayless was widely recognized for his knowledge of and fondness for the camellia. In his writings, he related that he first glimpsed a brilliant red camellia in Natchez, Mississippi, during a stay at an old plantation home there with his mother, while his father hunted on Avery Island. Later, he became enchanted with the "Jeanerette Pink" camellia growing in front of the Jefferson Home in the midst of a bitter winter, when he observed the death of the beautiful pink blossom and its return to life only two weeks later.

In Bayless' development of the gardens, he used large numbers of camellias of a great many varieties and made them floral emphasis of the gardens. He gained distinction for his work with this beautiful southern flower, winning more than 1,000 prize ribbons in the southern states. In 1966 Bayless hired an English horticulturist, Geoffrey Wakefield, to landscape the gardens and the result was a beautiful mixture of camellias, azaleas, crape myrtles and other plants in a series of interlocking gardens.

Bayless continued to collect plants from around the world for his conservatory and a reception area for guests who came to view his gardens. Bayless built a "dreamhouse" right on the edge of Lake Peigneur adjoining the new conservatory and gardens where he planned to enjoy his retirement. This was not going to happen as he lived there for only 9 months until November 20, 1980, when disaster struck. A drilling rig pierced one of the giant salt caverns. Then things began to happen. The water from the lake started draining. The drilling rig and other pieces of equipment were sucked into a whirlpool and disappeared. Men in the mines below noticed water coming in. Miraculously, no one was killed.

Bayless knew soon after the tragic events began to happen that the Island was in danger. He went to the second floor of the new house and watched as the lake drained. The ground under the house was moving and he was forced to evacuate. Upon returning he found his "dream house", the conservatory, the visitors center and 65 acres of the gardens gone - now covered by water in an expanded lake.

The gardens were closed to the public for almost four years.

Bayless died in 1985. The foundation that he had endowed and entrusted sold the property in late 1996 to Carolyn Doerle and her husband, Dr. Ron Ray. They set out to revitalize the site by offering many ways for the public to enjoy the tradition that Bayless and the Foundation started years ago. Doerle ran the property from late 1996 until it closed to the public in July of 2001.

In October 2003 the gardens were sold to Live Oak Gardens, LTD which is owned and operated by Mike and Louise Richard and is located adjacent to the gardens. Gardens' restoration began with the removal of debris and restoration of many buildings. Some of these include the Bayless Conference Center, Cafe' Jefferson, the Caretaker's house, the Joseph Jefferson Mansion, Servant's Quarters and other buildings that were badly neglected for several years.

Triumph Spitfire GT6 Mk1 (1966-68) Engine 1998c S6 OHV Production 12,066

TRIUMPH ALBUM

This car is registered and badged as a GT6, with a GT6 engine, but obviously the GT6 was a hard top fast back, while the Spitfire was a soft top with an occasional hardtop. So it is eith er Spit with a GT6 lump or unique. Here is a little bit of info i picked up. An unmodified Spitfire 4 was delivered to Michelotti's design studios in Italy and late in 1963 the prototype Spitfire GT4 was returned to England for evaluation. The styling of the vehicle was a success but the extra weight of the GT bodyshell resulted in extremely poor performance from the Spitfire's 1,147 cc engine and plans to develope the GT4 were shelved. Michelotti's fastback design for the Spitfire GT4 prototype was adopted by the Triumph racing programme for the 1964 season, as it was deemed to provide an aerodynamic benefit over the standard Spitfire body shape. Fibreglass copies of the Spitfire GT4's fastback were grafted on to the race-modified Spitfires destined for competition. The Spitfire racing programme was successful and in 1965 resulted in 13th overall and a 1st in class at LeMans. The Spitfire's competitive success and the continuing commercial success of the production vehicle led Triumph to re-evaluate its shelved plans for a GT version of the Spitfire. To overcome the lack of performance inherent in the heavier body style the Spitfire's 4-cylinder engine was replaced with the more powerful 2.0 L (1,996 cc) Triumph inline 6 originally derived from the Vitesse. The car was further developed and refined and eventually launched as the Triumph GT6 (dropping the Spitfire per-fix. Contemporary Triumph marketing advertised the GT6 as being developed from the race winning LeMans Spitfires, when in truththe Le Mans Spitfires and the GT6 were actually two entirely separate development programmes (the GT programme pre-dating the racing programme). However, the marketing spin was so successful that many people erroneously believed the Le Mans Spitfires to actually be GT6s.

The first series of GT6 was introduced in 1966 as a six cylinder sports coupe based on the Spitfire. Designed by Giovanni Michelotti and based on the recently introduced Spitfire Mk. IV. he new body was a sleek fastback design with an opening rear hatch, earning the GT6 the nickname of poor man's E-Type It was really a 2-seater, but a small extra rear seat could be ordered, large enough for small children. The family resemblance to the Spitfire Mk II was strong, the longer 6-cylinder engine necessitated a new bonnet top with a power bulge and the doors were provided with opening quarter light windows and squared-off glass in the top rear corner. The 6-cylinder engine was based on that of the Triumph Vitesse 2 litre developing 95bhp necessitated certain changes to the Spitfire mechanics; the radiator was new and mounted further forward in the car and the gearbox was the stronger unit from the Vitesse 2 litre, with synchromesh on all 4 forward gears. An optional Laycock de Normanville overdrive was offered giving a 20 per cent overdrive on 3rd and 4th gears. Front springs were uprated to cope with the extra weight of the new engine with the car weighing in at 1,904lbs The only major criticism was of its rear suspension; the GT6 inherited the swing-axle system from the Spitfire, which in turn was copied from the Herald small saloon. In the saloon it was tolerated, in the Spitfire criticised and in the more powerful GT6 it was a problem, particularly in the US market.

Triumph realised that they needed to find an answer to the handling problem, and their response came in 1969 with the Mark 2.

Hong Kong Transport - Trucks

The Hong Kong Truck Culture

The number of Trucks, Vans* and Special Purpose Vehicles (Light, Medium & Heavy) registered + licenced in Hong Kong seems to fluctuate between 120,000 - 125,000 vehicles and presumably new trucks registered are offset by old trucks being retired or sold over the border in China.

*Vans are classified as Light Goods Vehicles and are not shown in this album

In Hong Kong Trucks are classified as GOODS VEHICLES By the Transport Department - see below

☛Light Goods Vehicles - Goods vehicles of permitted gross vehicle weight not exceeding 5.5 tonnes.

☛Medium Goods Vehicles - Goods vehicles of permitted gross vehicle weight exceeding 5.5 tonnes but not exceeding 24 tonnes.

☛Heavy Goods Vehicles - Goods vehicles of permitted gross vehicle weight exceeding 24 tonnes but not exceeding 38 tonnes.

The major truck types you tend to see in urban areas are trucks carrying construction materials or waste, dump trucks, concrete mixers and all sizes of delivery trucks... outside of the urban areas it is container trucks and large trucks carrying construction materials.

The following brands of Trucks can be seen on the streets of Hong Kong and include:-

Beiben ✚ Bell ✚ CAMC ✚ CNHTC ✚ DAF ✚ Dennis ✚ Dong Feng ✚ FAW ✚ Fuso ✚ Foton ✚ Ford ✚ Hino ✚ Howo ✚ Hyundai ✚ Isuzu ✚ Iveco ✚ JAC ✚ Kato ✚ KIA ✚ Liebherr ✚ MAN ✚ Mercedes Benz ✚ Mitsubishi ✚ Nissan ✚ Renault ✚ Scania ✚ Shacman ✚ Sinotruk ✚ Suzuki ✚ Toyota ✚ UD ✚ Volvo ✚ Zoomlion

Hong Kong is a brand conscious place even for trucks (!) hence the popularity of the European brands, Scania and Man are very popular and even the older trucks look the business and they are utterly reliable.

Isuzu is the market leader in terms of sale volume for all types of trucks.

Day 251.

Still a few days behind...such is life these days. This is from last Friday.

The offices of Dewey, Cheetham, & Howe in Harvard Square, otherwise known as the home of the public radio show Car Talk. The brothers who are the personalities behind Car Talk, never one to pass up a little fun, officially registered their radio show offices as Dewey, Cheetham & Howe, hence the sign.
