Sunset at 15.45 today and this photo was taken at 17.30 aprox. No colour change but increased exposure. I know the time in the exif says 17.10 but that´s about 20 min late. Taken at Selfoss, a small town of about 7000 inhabitants. We celebrate yule (jól) until the 6th of january when the last of the yule lads (i.e. 13 yule lads = "sankta clause" ) leaves for the mountains where they live until next yuletide.

Bonjour, voici la région du cygne. C’est la première fois que je m’essaye à cette région du ciel. Photographié sur mon spot fétiche sur le Plateau du Lévézou.

In some plants, the generating region becomes so large that the usual symmetry is broken and a bilateral structure appears. This happens, eg, some cacti and commercial strawberries. Here, the left flower head of the dandelion is approximately radial, while the right one, with the beetle, is bilaterally symmetric. Such breaking of symmetry can be observed in many systems and produces eg trains of clouds or hexagons of rising oil in frying pans. It can be modeled mathematically.

06-august-2017: This is the END of one of the most intense heat waves af all times, concerning the hydrographic reservoir/watershed of North-Eastern Adriatic sea (45-46° Lat. North!).
The gust front (probably linked and dued to a Mesoscale Convective System/M.C.S. present more to the North) gives the first breath after 10 hot days on all these areas.
Around Trieste Gulf temperature touched 38°C in Trieste City (and in the night between 5 and 6 August the minimum temperature never fell below 30°C), 39°C in Grado City (GO) and in Cervignano del Friuli (UD), Italy, with some thermal peaks that reached 25°C to 850hpas (c.a. 1550m) in the free atmosphere!
Temperature values (45.5° North!) almost comparable to those of La Mecca/Mecca/Makkah (Saudi Arabia, 21.26° North!) in the same period!
On the Coastal Karst Region were 40.4°C in Podnanos (164m a.s.l., Vipava Valley/Valle del Vipacco, Slovenija; at the foot of Nanos mountain dewlap/chain): it is the FIRST TIME that Karst Region exceeds the temperature limit of 40.0 °C; it is an important RECORD in the climatic history of the Region and of the entire South-Western Slovenija.
About Croatia (the most affected by the inexorable african High-Pressure/HP): in Istra, 40-41°C have been reached in many of the internal locations (41°C in Buzet, for exemple!), while in the Kvarner coasts and Islands the 40°C burned the (...generally mild) town of Cres (Cres Island), 41°C in Crikvenica, 39 °C in Senj, 39°C in Bakar and Bakarac ... and many more!!!
For curiosity, the maximum temperature reached in Croatia, unofficially (Private weather station according to WMO), over three days, is +43°C of Golubić village (304m a.s.l.), within the central internal Dalmatia, not far from the border with Western Bosnia I Hercegovina (BiH).
All these locations (IT, SI, HR), from sea level up to 300-400m above sea, have normal maximum temperatures between 27°C and 31 °C, and minimum temperatures between 16°C and 22°C, at this time.
Water rushes in between the rows of flysch rocks at Barrika Beach, Basque region, on the northern coast of Spain.
I was visiting my sister in Italy and had planned on taking a few days to photograph the Dolomites, but the weather did not cooperate with a forecast for overcast skies and rain throughout the week. I decided to fly to Madrid and drive five hours north to Barrika. The weather forecast for that area was much better and more importantly the tide tables showed that during that week the low tide would roughly coincide with sunrise and sunset.
I had never been there and was a bit worried about making the long trip and coming back empty handed but it turned out to be an amazing location for photography and I had a great time shooting there for three days. Because of the cold weather and because part of the stairs that lead down to the beach had been washed out by a storm, I had the beach largely to myself. Most of the time it was just me and a couple of surfers.
Besides the slippery rocks what made it most challenging was how quickly the tide level changes. The beach is very flat so the amount of time during which the ocean is flowing in between the rocks is quite short. Most of the time the rocks are either fully exposed or covered by the water. I was lucky not to lose my camera on the first day when a larger wave came rushing in.
I hope to have a chance to visit this beautiful region again one day.

I was hoping to see some shorebird species we don't normally see in my home region. This little fellow qualifies for that goal and made the long walk worth it, although just the hike with the ocean on one side and salt marsh on the other side was excellent.
