There were many blues puddling on this damp patch, but limited to several very common species.

It's said Tuxentius carana is a common forest species, but I only saw it once here. After taking a single picture, it soon disappeared. Thankfully the only capture is clear.

This is My first Pierrot butterfly in Africa. So keep a record here. Some Pierrot butterflies in Asia are quite common.

Myvatn region 20210721

Mývatn is a lake in the northeast part of Iceland and one of the largest lakes in the country approximately 36 square kilometers. The lake is not deep, and the deepest part is only four and a half meters. It is and has been for a long time, one of the main tourist attractions in the country renowned for its beautiful small islands, exceptional shore, exceptional flora, and abundant birdlife. The area has a dreamlike and mysterious quality and was created by a large basaltic lava eruption 2300 years ago. Dominating the surrounding landscape are volcanic landforms, like lava pillars and pseudo-craters, Dimmuborgir lava being the best known. Lake Mývatn and its surrounding wetlands have an exceptionally rich fauna of waterbirds. Indeed, it is a birdwatcher's paradise. Apart from thirteen types of ducks, you will find the Slavonian grebe, red-necked phalarope, great northern diver, red-throated diver, and the whooper swan. Occasionally it is possible to see the gyrfalcon, the Icelandic Falcon. The locals around Lake Mývatn have a long tradition of harvesting duck eggs for domestic use. To ensure sustainability, the collection follows strict age-old rules of leaving at least four eggs in each nest for the duck to incubate.

Eyjafjöll region (Drangshlid) 20200731

On the left: Drangurinn Rock.

Drangurinn is a very special tuff rock formation that stands alone underneath Drangshlíd farm in the foothills of Eyjafjöll. A folktale tells of a strongman named Grettir Ásmundsson who was showing off and ripped the giant boulder right out of Hrútafell cliff, leaving a chasm which is now above Skarðshlíð. Under these rocks are caves and passages to which additional buildings have been added throughout the centuries. Most of them are still standing. These buildings are a good example of what is called ‘fornmannahús’ or ancient habitations. The site has been used in the filming of the Icelandic movie ‘Hrafninn flýgur’ and in various documentaries. Drangurinn and its immediate surroundings are a protected natural site.

The region of the Franconian Switzerland comprises Germany's largest closed cultivation area for sweet cherries and geographically belongs to the northern Franconian Alps. Sweet cherries are grown at altitudes between 280 m and 400 m above sea level on the frost-free slopes of the deep, romantic valley incisions and at 400 m - 550 m above sea level on the wide Jura plateaus.

The sweet cherries cultivated today are descended from the wild bird cherry (Prunus avium) and the common sour cherry (Prunus cerasus), which are still used today as seedling rootstocks for grafting with cultivated varieties. Commercial cultivation of sweet cherries is mainly based on proven varieties with high yields and tasty fruit with good resistance to rot and other weather-related influences. Cherry cultivation in Franconian Switzerland can be traced back to horticultural activities of the Weißenohe monastery in the 11th century.

Bangkok had a severe problem with smog at the start of the year; a "positive" side effect is the pollution diffuses the sun and gives such nice colors.
