Union registered nurses across the country hold day of action Feb. 19 to protest ICE as one of worst public health threats
Immigration enforcement agencies are harming public health and safety while hospital CEOs refuse to side with nurses to protect patients.
Registered nurse members of National Nurses United, the nation’s largest union and professional association of RNs, are naming federal immigration enforcement agencies as among the country’s top public health threats, and demanding through national coordinated protests on Thursday, Feb. 19 that Congress stop funding Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) and move to abolish ICE for the health and safety of patients and communities. Nurses also blame hospital executives for failing to clearly side with nurses and immigrant patients by acting to keep ICE out of hospitals.
“We are way past the point of ‘reform,’” said Mary Turner, an intensive care unit RN from Minneapolis, Minn. who is president of National Nurses United. “Reform only works when you care about abiding by and enforcing the law. Nurses make professional assessments and this is what we conclude: ICE and border patrol are violent, cruel, lawless, and racist organizations that the Trump administration is using as a paramilitary force to ultimately quash the American people’s opposition to his fascist takeover of our democracy. Our hospital CEOs are at fault, too, for enabling Trump by doing nothing. We all need to wake up and shut ICE down now before it is too late.”

While driving to Brazos Bend, we stopped along the side of the road to snap a few pics of the rising sun. Unfortunately, this was just a just a stones throw away.
A lot of trash and boxes show up near back entrances. We're sort of swimming through them on some days.

The Seattle Central Library, Rem Koolhaas and OMA's 2004 landmark, refuses to organize itself the way a library is supposed to; it's a stack of discrete "platforms" wrapped in a faceted glass-and-steel skin, connected by escalators and stairs that cut through the building's diagonal geometry rather than politely stacking floor on floor. This frame catches one of those connective moments: a steel-grate stairway descending at a raking angle in the foreground, poured concrete walls framing the shot on the left, and, glimpsed through an opening beyond, a warmly lit reading room lined with tall vertical fins and a living wall of plants.
That collision of materials is the whole point of the building. Exposed structural concrete, industrial steel mesh, and a saturated yellow escalator (visible at the edge of frame) sit deliberately alongside softer, more inviting spaces; the effect reads more like an urban section cut than an interior photograph, each layer of the library exposed simultaneously rather than experienced floor by floor.
Composing from this stairwell vantage, half in raw structure and half looking into finished space, captures something true about how the building actually works: it's less a container for books than a piece of vertical urbanism, engineered to make visitors constantly aware of the floors above and below them.
I went to our local refuse pit to get rid of waste (Newspapers, the old brakes from my car...) - and I found this - poor little Kinderwagen for a little girl.
