Gill Brook, Adirondack Mountain Reserve, NY
The bad weather finally moved out, but rain water still percolated out of the oversoaked mountains. Gill Brook had been suffering through a dry autumn with meager flows. Though not my primary destination, I always walk the alternate trail that follows this stream. The sun was just starting to clear the mountains east, and light poured through the trees with a special quality to it, a brightness that only comes after a storm has cleansed the air. This one must have raged a bit, judginhg from the downed leaves that littered the still wet bedrock that contains the brook. I could feel the energy downstream of the waterfall, the pool recharged with a fresh volume of water; and I was recharged too, with the lift that a front of high pressure brings. Finding the right composition, I felt like I woke up from the thoughtless trudge that got me here...brain function began, the human and the elements were refreshed.
This year I have been realizing how much I love being outside...
"Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound"
After his bath;-)
Not the best focus but I was pleased that I managed to get a decent shot and just enjoyed the moment of their bath time at the park.
Dear friends,
I got back from a visit to Iceland feeling wonderfully refreshed. I would recommend it to anyone who loves nature!
A version of this image that I've not shared before. Browsing back through for winter images, I found this one .... A shorter exposure than previous ones I've worked up. This has sat waiting patiently on my PC for almost 7 years!
This stunning view was the result of a fresh fall of snow that had kept us indoors the previous day. Worth the sacrifice to see Lofoten in all its magnificent glory.
Hesteyri, Hornstrandir, Iceland. Only inhabited (a little) during summer.
A scary book takes place here, and a movie after the same book: "I remember you" by Yrsa Sigurdardottir. We watched the movie in the doctor's house. Extra scary!
A popular activity on the beach at San Jose del Cabo is riding a horse along the sand. Fortunately the San Jose Estuary is nearby, so the horses can refresh and the vaquero can enjoy time to reflect.
