Boston reflections - the reflections of the past are seen in the mirrored glass of this modern building.
now you: reflection
a week with family will make you reflect on so many things. on who you are, how you fit in, the role you play in the lives of these people, in your children's lives, the roles you hope to play, the perceptions you have of others and the ones they have of you.
i shot this just before slipping into bed on vacation with my husband's family in an old rambling farmhouse with lots of mirrors, in the adirondacks. i reflected on these people that have come into my life, the way i interact with them or choose not to.
we were celebrating my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary, looking at old albums and slides. i feel like i reflected all week.... this week's theme was perfect.
View On Black (on advice of beth!)
I'm back in the comfort of home, and yet is already yearning for another road trip very soon...But for now, it's a time for reflection, for small conquests within the confines of daily living.

Oh, so much better on black, so press 'L' and you can have one of the two glases to enjoy...
Press 'F', and I'll give you BOTH glasses! :)
It's amazing how much I have learned since I took this shot... I could nail this in 15 minutes tops now, but this original took a bit of time... I may have to revisit this shot! :)
Original Post from 1/7/2011 on my old account:
Today's image has been rattling around in my head for about 2 days, and hopefully, it will make up for the total lack of inspiration yesterday's photo represents.
The final result is a bit different than what I had in mind, but I'm quite happy with it. It was a learning experience for sure. It's clear that while I have a pretty good understanding of Photoshop, I still have much to learn in lighting and setting up a shot like this. It's also clear I need more gear. :) Stronger lights, better (bigger) backdrops and stands to hold flags and such. Again though, this was a GREAT learning experience as, anyone who has shot glass before knows, capturing any kind of round glass like this is time consuming and detail oriented, and my work here is far from perfect.
Not too bad my first time out I think.
So, some quick details on the shot.

* Full Manual
* 50mm
* f/4.8
* 1/15s exposure triggered remotely
* ISO 200
* No Flash
* A Daylight cool light in a shine-through umbrella (2650 lumens, 5000 kelvin) to the right of image.
* I also used a basic household CFL bulb in a shine-through umbrella, which gives the reddish tone above the white wine. That is behind and above the image.

The final picture is two images merged in Photoshop. First I took the red wine glass on a mirror. Then, poured a glass of white to the same level and VERY carefully placed in the exact same spot as the red (with camera on tripod, of course). I used the Nikon's focal points as reference to where the glass should be as I didn't want to mark on the mirror and create something else to edit out.
I then did layer masks in Photoshop and feathered the blending points. A little bit of touchup for some dust on the glass, and voila, the final image. And yes, the opposite background color tones is intentional. :) I was actually hoping for more white around the red, but it didn't look right, so it's more a shaded white.
Again, it isn't QUITE what I had in mind, but this 365 is about learning and growing, and this picture sure helped THAT cause along!

I thought that the reflections of the taller plants in the Water Lily Garden were awesome. The water lilies themselves were spectacular too. So many colors and varieties. I could have spent an entire day just admiring water lilies.
Spotted this great reflection in 's-Hertogenbosch just before our boattrip on the river Dieze. We were on the next boat......
This summer those huge sunglasses were fashion.
This blonde wears it well. Makes me remember that great song by Rod Stewart: You Wear It Well
It's been ages...... but I stil love that song. If you have four minutes left, do listen to it.
One of the first albums I ever bought was "Every picture tells a story" by Rod Stewart, a timeless masterpiece.

Happy start of autumn! Beautiful fall landscape, seen in Campton, NH. Loved both the colors and the reflections of the changing trees and mountains in the lake.
Two exposures manually blended to bring back detail to the sky; did not have any filters on me, so had to work with what I had!
Feedback & advice much appreciated.
