Reflection of trees on a pond at sunset.

I enjoyed capturing this the moment i saw this because, the reflection of the tree was for some reason exactly matched the sign on the signboard for a men's room. I was not sure if i should post this; decided to go ahead just see how people liked it........ Hope you like it.

Reflections Series

#reflection #nyc #illusion #puddlegram #brooklyn #vscocam #rain #cityscape

These reflections were captured during a Bodie Photography workshop led by David Gubernick in July. We had permission to shoot in Bodie at night after it closed to the public. It was wonderful!

The windows are on the I.O.O.F. Hall - the Odd Fellows Lodge - on Main Street. Immediately across the street from the hall is an old barn, a house, a greenish truck and a couple of wagons. The glass in the windows may be original - from the 1880's.

This photograph was awarded 2nd place in the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art's juried REFLECTIONS photography show on December 6, 2014. The juror, Leigh Gleason (Curator of Collections UCR/CA Museum of Photography, Riverside, CA) said of the image:

"Your photograph is fascinating because the reflections each are a little different and somewhat disorientating. The image manipulates the space behind you in a really engrossing way. Best of all, your foreground - the source of your reflective surfaces - is just as interesting as the reflection itself. The textures, colors, and form are all working together beautifully. Your photograph is thoughtful, carefully composed, and makes brilliant use of color".

Reflections

Reflection of the waiting area by the gates on one of the big mirror lamp hanging down from the ceilng. San Francisco airport, California, USA

This image is a single frame, not a composite or double exposure. I make use of glass and puddles to bring a different dimension to some of my images. Additionally I use a polarized filter in order to find the best possible reflection by avoiding unwanted glare or shiny surfaces.

Unedited window reflection of the Media Markt of Amsterdam. Taken with a Sony HX200V. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop :)

Every 2 weeks or so I go on a little bike trip to some remote village or forgotten area of Amsterdam (like the Southeast, where the Media Markt is situated and where I took these shots) and write an article about it for the 'Dam in 60 minutes' series in 'The Sentinel', a magazine that shares the love for the best city in the world and everything around it with the rest of the planet. If you want to enjoy these fun journeys too, you can do so by virtually going with me here :)

Salisbury Cathedral, looking towards the church entrance from the new baptismal font - Salisbury, England.

It's quite unusual to see reflections of a cathedral from the inside. The water you see here is from a baptismal font designed by William Pye, Britain’s most distinguished water sculptor, and is the Cathedral’s first permanent font for over 150 years.

It was not easy to take this shot as you need to stoop down low and get really close to the water for a seamless reflection. I actually have my camera touching the water - HOLY WATER, no less! - so you could say I now have a holy and blessed camera. Well technically, it was not the camera touching the water but the ND filter holder - I used an ND grad to balance the high dynamic range and rested the holder on the edge of the font where the water streams down onto a drain.

Since no tripods are allowed in churches, I had no choice but to pump up the ISO and put the D700's noise-handling ability to the test. I think it did pretty good, although I still like my low ISO100 which I'm used to for long exposures.

This baptismal font was a 10-year project of Salisbury. It measures 3-meters wide and holds 3000 liters of water. It is made of green patinated bronze vessel and a stainless steel tank, weights about half a ton empty, and almost 2 tons with water. It was designed to be used for full-immersion baptism.

Artist’s Statement:

One of my favorite things to do while I was living in Kyiv, Ukraine was to wander around the city with my camera. I was mesmerized by the beautiful architecture and the culture which is so different than American. I was strolling through the city one day looking for things that caught my eye. While getting ready to cross the street, I tried to avoid stepping in a large slush puddle. I happened to notice an interesting reflection and decided to take a picture of it. I felt like I had discovered a new way to view the world! I began to see the city through its reflections and this process brought me to St. Michael’s Golden Dome Monastery captured in this puddle reflection. It is one of the most significant Orthodox Churches in Ukraine and I love the complementary colors of blue and gold which made it a wonderful place to photograph. I was thrilled to find a puddle which I was able to get a clear reflection of the bell tower with just about the entire onion dome on top.

This image is symbolic of my reflecting on life while living there, my spiritual growth and the creative force that drives me to pursue my photography with a passion.
