Relections After Rain

It has been great getting back to a normal pace of life since the wedding and honeymoon. This past weekend I was able to enjoy an afternoon out at Umstead State Park hiking around big lake. I didn't take many pictures except for some during an encounter with a deer...which I will post later. On my way back to the car I noticed this great reflection. The sun had already dropped behind the trees and was about to set so there was a subtle light accentuating the tree trunks against the shadows of the forest. This lake is always very still at the end of the day and is normally a great place for sunsets. But today the light provided other opportunities.

Reflection is not always perfect. Many times, it is associated with distortion.

reflections of a bridge

The reflections in the water of the trees caught my eye but it wasn’t until I saw the graffiti and subsequent reflection that I was able to frame it properly.

Snake Lake Nature Preserve and Wetlands Area. Tacoma, Washington, USA.

Reflections on window weathering plastic sheeting that suggest pareidolia entities.

Had to take a comp there with these hanging branches. Liked this transition time as well with the colors in the higher overhead clouds.

The reflection of leaves and tree branches on the undulating surface of the river.

Reflection is a flower of the mind, giving out wholesome fragrance; but revelry is the same flower, when rank and running to seed.

Reflections on the water of the Fraser River by Crescent Island.

It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.

Reflections of the evening light on plastic sheeting winterizing a window. I love the visual complexity of the pareidolia drama unfolding in this image (especially the cyborg in the center), its nicely balanced composition of thirds, and the painterly colour palette of muted mauve, blues, browns, and subtle golden halations. An image worth lingering over when seen full screen.

One of the largest American flags. The Mount Rushmore flag measures 45 feet by 90 feet and weighs 300 pounds. It’s currently folded in a glass case with a star and a stripe on display. I captured reflections of Lincoln and Jefferson from the display across the aisle.

No multiple exposure, just good old fashioned reflections and a good eye. 😃

Well… I returned home safely this morning from my two week photographic workshop on the Isle of Skye… with 68 Gigabytes worth of images!!

Although we had plenty of rain and loads of midges… that certainly didn’t prevent us from exploring every corner of the island… and shooting all the most iconic locations… in the best possible light!!

Here is one of my favourite shots from my most favourite iconic location of all… the Old Man of Storr… reflected in a tiny loch… and captured just as the clouds, light and reflections were looking at their very best.

I’d like to thank Jenny, Anne, Peter, Tom and Steven for sharing all these unforgettable experiences with me… I had an absolute blast shooting Skye with you guys (and girls)!!

A Great Blue Heron fishing

Reflections on a calm morning at Jackson Lake.

What attracted me to this scene, apart from the mirror-like quality of the water, is the burst of orange in the middle of the frame.
