Honoring individuals who have died from COVID-19 in this pandemic, Suzanne Brennan Firstenberg will present over 620,000 white flags on the National Mall. This will be the largest public, participatory art exhibition on the National Mall since presentation of the AIDS Quilt. It will be the first ever concurrently mirrored in the digital sphere.
The exhibition will be composed of 143 sections of white flags and 3.8 miles of walking paths. White benches placed throughout the art allow visitors to sit in quiet reflection. Social distancing and mask requirements will follow those in place for Washington, D.C. at the time of the exhibition.

I liked the way the courtyard at the Barnes Foundation had been built so that a stream of light came down into the reflection pool, so I have the boys lay down with their heads out over the water. They were not very enthused, but it was fun.

A large crowd gathered at the Lincoln Memorial for the concert. The crowd gathered on both sides of the reflecting pool.
Of course eventually someone fell in. It was especially satisfying in this guy's case because he had been showing off just before he went through. But he wasn't the last one to go in.

Who knew that when taking this photo in the late 1970's that my first (and only) apartment in Boston would be in this picture. (Slide undated)

Todd Morgan Beamer was one of the United Airlines Flight 93 passengers who tried to overtake the hijackers and regain control of the aircraft, which eventually crashed in Pennsylvania.
Todd and other passengers had been in communication with people via in-plane and cell phones and learned that the World Trade Center had been attacked using hijacked airplanes. Beamer tried to place a credit card call through a phone located on the back of a plane seat but was routed to a customer-service representative instead, who passed him on to supervisor Lisa Jefferson. Beamer reported that one passenger was killed and, later, that a flight attendant had told him the pilot and co-pilot had been forced from the cockpit and may have been wounded. He was also on the phone when the plane made its turn in a southeasterly direction, a move that had him briefly panicking. Later, he told the operator that some of the plane's passengers were planning "jump on" the hijackers. According to Jefferson, Beamer's last audible words were "Are you guys ready? Let's roll."

It had been a long time since we had been to the University of Alberta Botanic Garden in Greater Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. During COVID 19 pandemic when cases were getting lower and facilities were reopening in Alberta, we decided to pay a visit to the gardens. The splendid Aga Khan Islamic Garden was a new experience for us, and it was the main reason for us to pay a visit to the University of Alberta Botanic Garden. This shows the reflecting pool of the Aga Khan Garden, Alberta.
