The CSIS Energy and National Security Program is pleased to host a conference focused on the latest developments in the crude oil export debate as well as the role of refining (both domestic and globally) in finding an economically viable home for US light oil production. As debates heat up over domestic policy choices affecting both the upstream and downstream sectors, the need for informed (and perhaps more detailed) discussion has become increasingly important. This conference seeks to both inform and supplement the debate on two issues that will have a large impact on the future domestic U.S. energy landscape as well as global investment going forward.
The Refining panel will provide a primer on the U.S. refining sector, addressing refinery configurations, operations and economics; the ability of the domestic and global refining system to accommodate additional light oil production and some of the implications of investment choices and oil flows in the near and medium terms.

A 300pc jigsaw cut by Heather Prydderch of Puzzlewood. Here you see the back showing the line-cutting. The jigsaw is no438, and measures 11 x 14.4in. A pleasant jigsaw, which would have been more difficult as a push-fit, with no lugs crossing colour boundaries.
We saw this painting last autumn in New York at the Metropolitan Museum. It is Renoir's Young Girls at the Piano of 1892. Renoir painted three other variations of this composition in oil and two sketches, one in oil and one in pastel. Known by the artist as repetitions, they were executed to fulfill commissions from dealers and collectors. The work is on public display at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris, Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris.
"In late 1891 or early 1892 Renoir was invited by the French government to execute a painting for a new museum in Paris, the Musée du Luxembourg, which was to be devoted to the work of living artists. He chose as his subject two girls at the piano. Aware of the intense scrutiny to which his submission would be subjected, Renoir lavished extraordinary care on this project, developing and refining the composition in a series of five canvases. The Lehman painting and the nearly identical version formerly in the collection of Renoir's fellow Impressionist Gustave Caillebotte have long been regarded as the most accomplished variants of this intimate and engaging scene of bourgeois domestic life."

ANACORTES, WASHINGTON, USA -- Friday May 13th, 2016. Activists set up a blockade encampment on the train tracks leading to the oil refineries in Anacortes. Thousands of people began converging in Anacortes, WA, as part of the global climate mobilization Break Free. Many are now risking arrest by engaging in peaceful civil disobedience to highlight the moral urgency of immediate action to combat climate change. Anacortes is home to two fossil fuel refineries owned by Shell and Tesoro. These refineries are the largest unaddressed source of carbon pollution in the Northwest and they refine 47% of all the gas and diesel used in the region. Break Free Pacific Northwest events will continue throughout the weekend.
Break Free 2016 is a week of coordinated direct actions that target the most dangerous fossil fuel projects, in an effort to keep coal, oil and gas in the ground and accelerate a just transition to 100% renewable energy. Thousands of people all over the planet are putting their bodies on the line to send a message to polluters and politicians that we need to break free from fossil fuels now.
