I made this ruffled tulle skirt a while ago but I decided it needed some refinement so I added the beads around the basque and a front lacing closure. Curiously the last time this was worn it was also modelled by an Agnes. Devotion Agnes' dress makes a good base layer for different looks and the subtle shimmer is very nice.
The portrait in the background, which I use in a lot of my dioramas, is the portait of Lucrezia Panciatichi by Bronzino. It is actually a postcard I must have bought about 20 years ago in the Uffizi gallery in Florence.
In June we drove down to the French Riviera to see one of our kids who works there, and on the way back, we visited some wonderful Romanesque churches.
This was not really a seriously planned and prepared trip, and therefore most of the churches were closed and could only be photographed from the outside.
Likewise, I had to forfeit the Thoronet abbey because they do not allow tripods unless one has obtained a special clearance in advance, which I hadn’t. It was nevertheless very enjoyable and, as always, “We shall have to come back!”
The Saint-Martin church in the village of Volonne was built around Year 1000 in small apparel of unrefined and mostly unsquared local pebbles joined together byt lots of mortar. Only the cornerstones and those around the thin and tall windows were slightly more refined.
Inside, the thick columns are made of the same materials and the unadorned capitals are very archaic. Even the relieving arches use good sones only on the outside, the inside is made of blocage filling.
It is a very old church, and a large enough one, but built with very limited means and no refinement whatsoever. It has withstood the test of time, though...

As a symbol of love and devotion, the Taj Mahal undoubtedly holds a pride of place. The Taj Mahal was built as a mausoleum by emperor Shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaz Mahal. The name means 'The Chosen One of the Palace'. In 1631, when the Mughal empire in India was at its zenith of prosperity, emperor Shah Jahan's third and favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal, died during the childbirth of their fourteenth child. According to the court chronicle, the emperor was totally grief stricken. The love of Shah Jahan for his wife was responsible for the construction of the mausoleum. The principal mausoleum was completed in 1648, while the surrounding buildings and gardens took five more years to complete. Totally, it took 22 years for the completion of Taj Mahal we see today. It incorporates the finest architectural traditions of Persian, Indian, and Mughal architecture. The Gur-i-Amir in Uzbekistan, the Humayun's tomb in Delhi, Itmad-ud-Daulah's tomb in Agra and Shah Jahan's Jama Masjid in Delhi served as models. While the previous buldings were constructed of sand stone, Shah Jahan promoted the use of white marble inlaid with semi-precious stones. Buildings under his patronage reached new levels of refinement.

Designed by Joseph Clark Maddison and opened in 1913, the hotel is listed as a category one building on the Historic Places Trust Register, reflecting its status as a building of national significance. The hotel’s grand design is fitting: after all, Christchurch is regarded as the Garden City, and is regarded internationally for its culture and refinement.

Conflict in the middle east provided a training opportunity for smaller nations. A small contingent of soldiers, usually special operations, could be deployed along with a larger nation's forces. The feedback from this allowed refinements to be made to training methodologies and weapons development. The GM4 was a result of this development season, as an improvement of G-MK3s that had been adopted by some smaller countries.

Murrine is an Italian term for colored patterns or images made in a glass cane (long rods of glass) that are revealed when cut in cross-sections. Murrine can be made in infinite designs—some styles are more familiar, such as millefiore. Artists working in glass design murrine in a variety of ways from simple circular or square patterns to complex detailed designs to even portraits of people. Murrine are designed by layering different colors of molten glass around a core, then heating and stretching it into a rod. When cool, the rod is sliced into cross-sections of desired thickness with each slice possessing the same pattern in cross-section.

The Downtown East St. Louis Historic District was determined to be locally significant for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) under Criterion A for Commerce & Criterion C for Architecture. The district is the last remaining contiguous group of cultural resources related to the twentieth century economic growth of East St. Louis, Illinois. In the first three decades of the twentieth century, two cities were growing rapidly on the banks of the Mississippi River below its confluence with the Missouri. While the fame & fortune of St. Louis was already well assured, its neighbor across the river, East St. Louis, was an insurgent urban force. The emergence was staggering: in 1900, East St. Louis had a mere 29,734 residents, but by 1930 that number was 74,397. Between 1900 and 1928, downtown East St. Louis was remade from a modest city center into a central business district built on a scale anticipating future growth. The core of downtown East St. Louis gave rise to buildings of as much architectural refinement as contemporary buildings in St. Louis, but with a distinctly local mark. East St. Louis’ embrace of urban modernity would be shaped by local designers like Albert B. Frankel and J.W. Kennedy, St. Louis’ Mauran, Russell & Garden and William B. Ittner, and Kansas City’s Boller Brothers. The remaining architecture of downtown East St. Louis shows signs of open experimentation, like the Murphy Building’s bakery brick façade, the Ainad Temple’s boldly Moorish style, and the Sullivanesque ornamentation of the Spivey Building, alongside many examples of traditional one & two-part commercial blocks. By 1930, downtown East St. Louis could boast a modern air-conditioned movie palace seating over 1,700; a hotel capable of hosting statewide conventions; a skyscraper employing the design tenets of the progressive Prairie School; well-designed banks; office buildings of all sizes & styles; and department stores & other retailers. In 1960, with a peak population of over 82,000 residents, East St. Louis publicly was named the “All America City” but the city nearly immediately began a precipitous decline. The period of significance for the NRHP begins in 1900, when the oldest building likely was built, through 1960, when the decline of the District became evident.
The First National Bank Building, originally constructed in 1906 & renovated in 1927, is a five-story brick building located at the northwest corner of Missouri & Collinsville Avenues. The double-height first story is clad in concrete with a narrow spiral-carved pillar at each of the three corners of the building and a band of granite around the base. Tall round-arched window openings glazed with fifteen panes of glass flank each elevation: seven along Collinsville Ave and five along Missouri Ave. The concrete arched lintels are carved with an alternating circle & floral motif. The left (west) & right window bays along Missouri Ave and the left (south) window bay along Collinsville are distinct from the others because they are entryway bays: six panes of glass fill the upper portion of the arch above a panel of etched granite that infills the space above the glass doorway below. The left doorway on the south elevation is located in a recess and has a large dark green granite infill above its transom, whereas the two doors at the corner are flush with the elevation and have metal “First National Bank” letters attached to the granite above the transom. A curved and intricately carved concrete keystone is located at the top of each window arch. A terra cotta dripstone protrudes from the elevation above the top of the first-floor windows and forms a strong visual division. Above the dripstone the building is clad in brick. There is a rowlock course above each floor of windows and a diaper pattern across the top of the building between the fifth-floor windows and the terra cotta cornice. While this diaper pattern runs across the entire east elevation, it only spans the rightmost bay of the south elevation and not the western portion of the building that was added at a later date. The cornice is supported by a series of rectangular terra cotta dentils that are mirrored in a series of triangular finials above the protruding shelf of the cornice. There are five two-window bays along each floor of the Missouri Ave elevation and seven along Collinsville Ave that align with the large first-floor windows. There is a narrow sill below each window. A large vertical “1st Illinois Bank” sign is attached perpendicularly to the corner of the building between the first & second floors with a copper clock hanging below (at the time of this writing for NRHP listing but now reads Lindell Bank). The building is attached to its two-story neighbor to the north, so only the windows of the upper three floors are visible.

On the many Saturdays I mis-spent hanging around BBS in my youth, for several in a row I observed a Dodds/AA vehicle make a drop off in BBS late morning, but I never knew what the working was. Perhaps fellow flickrite 'Just A Driver' can help? On this particular day it was a Lynx, a vehicle that served a full working life with AA. If I recall correctly this one had a mellow TL11 and was converted from Hydracyclic fully-auto to semi-auto, thus increasing its level of refinement considerably.

This is made up of 5 RAW shots taken in portrait to avoid too much distortion, merged together as a panorama in CS6 and flattened as a TIFF. The image was then converted to black and white, given some punch in Topaz Adjust, sharpened in CS6 and adjusted levels etc and then final refinements in Lightroom before publishing.
These engines will need further refinement before I am happy with them. You can see yellow and black technic bricks behind cowl (will need to change these to white). Also ship will likely be a few 2 to 4 studs wider... and I am short about 75 LBR technic treads... (ordered a bunch in last year lugbulk, but they are no where to be found, so I will need to borrow some from another build (www.flickr.com/photos/tylersky/40110594080/), if I can't find them) Also, this really needs more color... will likely swap out some white for something else to add interest...

Like every Sunday, the Bouncing Betty welcomes DJ Alex for a moment of complete release to the rhythms of Electro Swing, Jazz and Blues. These are always beautiful nuggets to listen to. The Boucing Betty presents a breathtaking decor of realism, refinement with a subtle mix of baroque, art & deco, futuristic and also prohibition years, 1920', 1930'. The atmosphere, the show on stage, the lights, the colors and of course the music, everything is there for a total immersion, an assured enchantment and a certain escape. Shooting in densely-visited national parks presents a slew of challenges - especially if you don't want people in your shot. It involves patience and waiting.
I do not get frustrated or bothered by people entering my soon-to-be frame. They are on their own vacation, as I am on mine. I don't signal to them that I want them to move, and if they ask me if they're interrupting me, I tell them honestly that they are not.
Spoiling someone's day so that I can get my shot is selfish and dickish. If you find yourself doing this, rethink your perceived place in the world.

For those who had never seen them live, the show was a real surprise: on the front line, in front of the audience, there were three batteries, played by the exceptional Pat Mastelotto and Gavin Harrison who occasionally joined Bill Rieflin. The three gave a display of enormous skill playing rhythms of great difficulty and great refinement. The Rambler Marlin remains a rare sight in the world of classic cars, but the car's utterly unique appearance makes them a welcome visitor to any venue. The original concept for the Marlin came in the aerodynamic form of the Rambler Tarpon that debuted at the 1964 Chicago Auto Show, where Richard Teague's design marked a radical departure from the normally conservative look of Rambler's and AMC's offerings. While a bit smaller and lacking some of the refinement of the production Marlin, the Tarpon was essentially the same basic concept: a pillarless coupe that fell somewhere near the personal luxury coupe market. The most striking feature is the sloped fastback roofline that terminates at the rear bumper. That long aerodynamic "teardrop" shape harkened back to mid-century designs like AMC's predecessor, the Nash Airflyte.
Built on a convertible Rambler American, the Rambler Tarpon toured the country on the auto show circuits and came back with favorable enough reactions that AMC president Roy Abernethy greenlit production of the car with a new name, Marlin, for the 1965 model year. However, the Marlin's first two years of production didn't result in high sales volume, but with the introduction of a new AMC platform in 1967, the Marlin got a redesign on the Ambassador's wider track width and wheelbase. That new body included a redesigned roofline and a smaller C-pillar. The company branding also switched all Rambler badging to AMC in 1967, making the '67 officially the "AMC Marlin." Sales struggled with only a few more than 2,000 being sold in 1967 and Marlin production ended.

A lovely tower adorns the harbor area of Muscat symbolizing the very important commodity that Oman has traded to the world for centuries, frankincense. It is one of the few areas of the world where the trees grow that yield frankincense. Frankincense established Oman as a leader in trade in the years when various religions of the world used it in ceremonies.
When I saw this monument, I saw refinement, grace and elegance which I continued to see in Oman's society through out my recent trip.

Satin teddies are my all-time favorite lingerie. Lovely Ann shows why: her satin teddy shines amazingly, enhances the curves of her beautiful body, makes her look super sensual and oozes elegance, refinement and class. The luxurious feel of soft satin on her skin is delightful too. Looks magnifficent, feels sensational, just absolutely fantastic!
Trying out something new for me tonight for the first time. Don't think I'm going to say much more about it yet as the set up still needs some refinement but I'm sure some of you have seen stuff like this before and I know this can get lots better! There's a clue in the title!

The Sunbeam-Talbot 80 and 90 were the first new models introduced by the Rootes Group following the Second World War. The larger-engined 90 competed with some success in rallies. From 1950 the 90 MkII featured independent front suspension and further refinements to engine and brakes followed on the MkIIA of 1952.
This 1952 Mk.IIA FFE33 was the subject of a thorough four-year restoration by previous owner Mr Tony Coombs before going on display at the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu.

A rebuild of my bounder and cad Decepticon (previously a duocon). Just imagine him talking like Terry-Thomas and you're most of the way there with his personality.
The deep gulley was formed at the end of the last Ice Age and is known as the 'Devil's Kneading Trough' and is situated on the North Downs near Wye.This is a multi-RAW panorama stitched together in CS6 with final processing and refinement in Lightroom 5.
Milo named this one for me. Same size as the 'guardian' bot from way back. There are bits from previous builds in there, some refinements and some new bits.
Revealing the sculpture that was cast using plaster inside a plaster mold, has been a learning experience in several ways.
Lesson One - plaster is plenty strong enough to withstand molten bronze, as long as it is thoroughly dry and properly vented. If I had known how tough this old plaster was, I'd be looking at finished bronze by now.
Lesson Two - The original wax sculpture was a lot more rudimentary than I thought. I suppose I thought because it was an experiment, there wasn't any sense wasting a lot of time on details and refinement. Which makes me glad I *didn't* have it cast in bronze, because refining bronze after it's cast, would be tough.
Lesson Three - When casting plaster inside plaster, adding a tint to it would have been really helpful, so that you could tell when you get to the part you want to save.
As it is, the only signs are a little wax residue and smooth shapes instead of rough, broken plaster texture. Even so, at some point he lost his chin to the chisel, which I hope to repair by adding plaster and carving it back.
Still - from this angle, his mustache only adds the effect of making him look like Sam Elliot - and that's not all bad..

First flown as an A321-131 with the Airbus test registration D-AVZR, this aircraft was delivered to ANA All Nippon Airways as JA102A in Apr-98. It was sold to Wells Fargo Bank Northwest (Trustee) in Mar-08 and was temporarily registered D-ALAA to Lufthansa Technik in Apr-08 while it was converted to A321-231 standard (basically, the addition of a centre tank and other detail refinements) which was completed in Jun-08 when it was leased to Sky Airlines (Turkey) as TC-SKI. It was returned to the lessor in Jan-13 and was leased to Onur Air (Turkey) as TC-OBZ the following month. The aircraft was briefly wet-leased to Fly2Sky Airlines between May/Jun-19 before being returned to the lessor in Aug-19. It was leased to a new company, Holiday Airlines (Bulgaria), and flown to Sofia (Bulgaria) to await the issue of the airline's Bulgarian AOC (Air Operators Certificate). Current, updated (Aug-19).
