BLÜTENSCHMUCK

Zerbrechlich, doch so schön

für eine Weile.

Du Zauberfrost, ein kleines bisschen

noch verweile.

(EGo)

"Gli animali furono imperfetti, lunghi di coda, plumbei di testa, piano piano si misero in ordine, divennero paesaggio, acquistarono nèi grazia volo, il gatto, soltanto il gatto, apparve completo e orgoglioso, nacque completamente rifinito, cammina solo, e sa quello che vuole.(Pablo Neruda)

"The animals were imperfect, long of tail, leaden of head, slowly they were put in order, they became landscape, they acquired nèi grace flight, the cat, only the cat, appeared complete and proud, born completely refined, walks alone, and knows what he wants (Pablo Neruda)

Macro Mondays - Drips, Drops and Splashes

Stanlow/Innospec from The National Waterways Museum, Ellesmere Port.

Long exposure version of the best conditions I've had here.

Pretty spectacular sunrise yesterday. Not much wind and misty too.

Whilst the rest of the country seemed to have clear skies and I'm completely jealous of the aurora shots, Stanlow got to have one at sunrise the following morning.

As you drive in here you can see Runcorn Bridge, up the Mersey and to Fiddler's Ferry which is where the sun is rising roughly atm so you get a good idea of what sunrise is going to be like.

Dark skies over Stanlow with just a patch of clear sky over Runcorn. The clear sky developed enough to give some wonderful colour over Stanlow's dark clouds.

Sunrise from the National Waterways Museum in Ellesmere Port looking towards Stanlow and Innospec manufacturing facilities.

I haven't taken the dog for a walk down here for some time preferring the open space of Thorton Hough up the Wirral, where she can chase her ball until her heart's content before sulking and refusing to bring it back once she's had enough.

The treats have also had to take a back seat. If you have a black labbie you will know only too well that food is their number one priority, closely followed by ball chasing, and hair shedding!

Anyway the sky looked fantastic the other morning and so a slight detour to The National Waterways Museum. The sky got more and more colourful until it turned that bright red that sometimes looks unnatural.

I took this shortly before the vividness took hold as I didn't want people to think I'd been playing with the sliders:)

Many thanks, Ade.

If I poke my head out of the front door I can see the sky over Stanlow between the two houses opposite so can often predict what the conditions will be like.

It was crimson and whilst the colour faded slightly, light fast moving cloud, and clearish skies it was a no brainer, grabbed the bag and out with a very sorry looking dog sulking and looking annoyed by yet another no morning walk coz he's off to shoot that chemical plant again. She got one later obviously!

Had my filter attachment on another camera at home so this was 66 seconds of steady hands holding a 6 stop in front of the lens. Steady hands....something I didn't have a year ago today, celebrating my first birthday sober and addiction free. Yay!

There were a lot of storms around last night at sunset and the sky was very angry looking with lightning strikes in the local area.

Too tired after the block of shifts from hell but decided to get back on the pushbike for the first time since lockdown easing and ride down to the National Waterways Museum for sunrise this morning.

I've not been down here very often recently as the water level has been a good 1.5m lower than normal revealing Ellesmere Port's very own 'beach,' which has been the source of much amusement on the local social media groups with people taking deckchairs down for picnics. 'El Porto has never looked finer,' and 'Who needs Benidorm?' type posts.

I asked on the ship canal FB group why it was so low and the replies were another source of much amusement. A full on argument ensued where the majority insisted it was lack of rain and the streams and brooks that feed the canal were low too. The sensible amongst us pointed out we have had much longer periods without rain, such as the hot spell during lockdown but nope....it was definitely due to lack of rain. One person even extended an offer of fisticuffs, 'I'll fight anyone that tries to say it's for any other reason than lack of rain. The level of stupidity being shown in this group staggers me!'

It descended further until Godwin's Law happened and one person accused another of being a Nazi and a vicious Brexiteer.

I'd bowed out but remained firmly in the camp of there must be another reason other than lack of rain.

This is an older shot but I went down yesterday and the water level was back to normal....overnight! And we hadn't suddenly had a biblical downpour to make 20 odd miles of canal rise 1.5m.

After a little more research I discovered there had been embankment repair works upstream at Warrington. Go figure.....

Social media was alive with many 'RIP El Porto beach, you will be sorely missed,' type posts:)

Not sure I needed the polariser on!

Psalm 12:6 “The LORD’s promises are pure, like silver refined in a furnace, purified seven times over.”

The best of the recent cloudless still mornings with just a hint of mist on the ship canal.

On autopilot. So much so that this is completely unedited apart from removing the dust spots.

Seems apt....

There is only really one place to stay on Ibo island and that is Ibo Island Lodge. It is a huge property made up of mansions and gardens. The mansions resemble plantation houses and are a combination of old structures that have been refined and updated. High beam ceilings and huge poster beds with netting are featured.

The community has renovated the property and has made the gorgeous wood furniture that adorn the rooms. One can sit on your own huge veranda and watch the island's life. This was a joy for me because the slow pace of life on the island also takes one back in time. And the food? FRESH produce and brilliantly prepared.

Long exposure of Stanlow/Innospec taken a few minutes earlier than the image I posted a couple of days ago. Again very little done to it other than removing the seagulls and dust spots.

In my mind you are

a purple orchid

Exotic, tender, passionate

and wild

Untouchable, fragrant

bloom of dark desires

Evoking my deepest thoughts

Lost in the dreamy wonder

of an eastern forest

You are there among

the whispering glades

Of soft green bamboo

Delicately embracing the moist

warm air of night

A lover of another world

Of fantasies ethereal,

yet profoundly real

Earthy, yet ether's child

My chocolate sweetness

in distant lands

A darkened flower of

refined passion

My purple orchid

1937 Railton with Hudson Deluxe 8 engine/chassis and Limo body by the English Coachbuilder Rippon Bros made for the Works Manager Colonel Rippon as a personal estate car. Rippon Bros, Coachmakers began in 1555, and served the original Queen Mary (yes that one) and Queen Elizabeth 1 as official coachbuilders. They made their first auto body in 1905 for an early Rolls Royce.

This Railton boasts many luxurious features such as aluminum coachwork, dual sliding roof panels, and fitted 3-piece luggage just to name a few. One particularly luxurious amenity is the an inlaid walnut cabinet in the passenger compartment which transforms into a table and contains a matchbox, cigarette and cigar boxes, a silver plated cognac flask, a corkscrew, and a chocolate box. In addition to its refined finishings and due to its intend use as an estate car, this Railton boasts many unusual features, such as a waterproof compartment concealed under the luggage for carrying sport rifles and a reinforced trunk lid that doubles as a shooting platform capable of supporting two men.

The Hudson powered Railton was named for British automotive engineer Reid A. Railton, who designed both a land speed record setting automobile and a water speed record setting boat. The Railton was built in England from 1933 until the beginning of World War II with less than 1,500 being produced. The company was started by the innovative car and boat builder, Noel Macklin who was looking for a new car-making venture after he sold his Invicta car company in 1933. He hoped that combining American engine power and reliability, with a Rolls Royce like luxurious body would sell........and a few Brits found the car a practical marriage of both. Rare and desirable
