In the Lower Sixth, my work was emphasised by the craft of the piece, learning to paint more naturalistically and refining my skills as an artist. The second part of the Sixth Form is devoted to developing my work thematically. However, I did not wish to simply begin a randomly selected theme, just for the sake of it. Rather I preferred that if possible, my work would develop organically; one idea leading to another. I found that my pieces were repeatedly following the subject of the figure so I decided to continue this idea further. I am focusing on the human form and portraying the figure as my subject in a un-naturalistic manor. I am following a process that began just over 100 years which started, with Cezanne’s series of Bathers. He has struggled with what he was aiming to do, and wasn't entirely sure how to abstract the human form and I empathise with this struggle and am currently writing an essay on this subject. As I am also studying History of Art at A-Level, cross overs are inevitable.
I began to use textured elements in my work and it gradually became more and more abstracted as ideas came to me. I think the use of texture in my work makes the image of more interest, as, even though its not a new idea, it is not as common as a purely naturalistic painting. The figures I paint are often in the nude as opposed to draped, because I like to blur the lines between the traditional nude, and the more erotic and sexual imagery we see in the modern day. In my pieces, the past and the present often meet on the canvas. I use mixed media often, including embroidery which draws attention to certain objects, by adding colour and texture to a black and white piece.
I am currently working on a project which is based on layers and light. In my opinion, the are two kinds of light that you can have in painting, the implied light that is applied to the canvas with paint, and the other is how light can bounce off my work, which influences what textures I add to the surface. I am incredibly interested in the use of light as an art form and am excited to see where I develop this idea as well as my use of texture.

DESCRIPTION
Boli HA-350 is derived from a strain of Bacillus licheniformis using submerged fermentation and refining extraction techniques. Boli HA-350 is an endoamylase, which rapidly decreases the viscosity of a gelatinous starch solution by randomly hydrolyzing starch, glycogen and its degradation products within the alpha-D-1, 4 glucosidic bonds to produce soluble dextrins and oligosaccharides.
Boli HA-350 is a very robust alpha-amylase with superior thermal and pH stability. It is widely applicable to ethanol industry.
ADVANTAGES
Boli HA-350 can bring the following advantages for ethanol industry:
Superior performance without adding calcium ion under majority processing conditions
High stability with low pH
Decrease viscosity quickly
Decrease formation of non-fermenting sugars
Effective liquefaction of different starch materials, such as tapioca, corn, wheat and rice.

EFFECT OF pH
Boli HA-350 is active over a wide pH range, depending on the application. For maximum activity, the optimal pH for Boli HA-350 is 5.6 to 6.2. The exact pH optimum will depend on many process variables, including temperature, substrate concentration, and time.
EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE
For interval liquefaction, the optimum temperature of Boli HA-350 is above 85ºC (185ºF). It liquefies starch substrates promptly at 95 to 97 ºC (203 to 207ºF) and maintains highly active at 100ºC (212 ºF). For consecutive liquefaction, Boli HA-350 demonstrates exceptional thermo-stability at temperatures up to 105 to 110ºC (221 to 230ºF), maintains its stability for 5 to 7 minutes and keeps on liquefying rapidly and completely.
CONCENTRATION OF CALCIUM
The presence of calcium increases the thermal stability of Boli HA-350. This enzyme requires a very low calcium concentration and calcium additions of 20 to 50 ppm (dry solids basis) are sufficient to ensure enzyme stability.
INHIBITORS
Copper, titanium, and cobalt ions are moderate inhibitors for Boli HA-350. Aluminum, lead and zinc ions act as strong inhibitors.
TYPICAL USAGE
In general, first adjust the pH to 5.6 to 6.2 and then adding Boli HA-350. Calcium is not necessarily needed. After the enzyme is added, heat the slurry to liquefy at the temperature of 85 to 90 ºC for 90 to 150minutes. The final DE value should be maintained at 10 to 12.
DOSAGE
Dosage of Boli HA-350 is dependent on the starch substrate, application, process, substrate concentration, and other factors. To optimize the dosage, it is recommended to conduct a number of liquefaction trials prior to routine use of this product. A good starting point for dosage rates is to use 0.33 to 0.64kg to liquefy 1 metric ton of corn material.
PACKAGING
Boli HA-350 is packaged in either 30 kg or 1200 kg plastic containers. Customized packaging is also available upon request.
STORAGE
Boli HA-350 should be stored below 25°C (77°F) in its original packaging, sealed and unopened, protected from the sun. This enzyme has been formulated for optimal stability. However, enzymes gradually lose activity over time. Extended storage and/or adverse conditions such as higher temperature may lead to a higher dosage requirement.
SAFETY & ENZYME HANDLING
Inhalation of enzyme dust and mists should be avoided. In case of contact with the skin or eyes, promptly rinse with water for at least 15 minutes. For detailed handling information, please refer to the appropriate Material Safety Data Sheet.

These images were taken by participants of Still Moving, a photography course run by Siobhan Davies Dance.
Still Moving is aimed at professional and amateur photographers who want to learn new techniques or refine their skills. Led by established dance photographer Pari Naderi, the course aims to support photographers in finding their own approach to capturing movement. Through tasks, activities and visits, they are encouraged to notice and frame both artistic and everyday movement.
In 2013 participants composed images using sequencing, collage and juxtaposition inspired by the techniques used in All This Can Happen, a film by Siobhan Davies & David Hinton.

I continued refining my reflection feature in my camera program. I got vertical and four-way reflection working for still images. (Vertical reflection still doesn't work for live images but four-way reflection does...)
I am still tracking down the pesky bug that leaves lines in the middle and edges of the image. I thought it was related to the dimensions of the image so I changed all the images to have even dimensions but that didn't have any noticeable effect, unfortunately. Also, unfortunately, it's a "non-trivial" task (as one of my professors from long ago said) to debug a Metal kernel on an iPhone.
Four-way reflection takes one of the quadrants of the image (upper-left, upper-right, lower-right, or lower-left) and reflects it to the other three quadrants. The result is usually rather queasy...
Poor Norio is still in my program as a test image... This is from a couple of weeks ago when I took his picture on the floor in the living room.

Shannon continues to refine her skills at painting. She has painted for five years and every year is a new journey for Shannon. This year she has been working on her design skills and creating new colors, designs and patterns within creative journaling. She often will look through books and magazines to find images that inspire her. Once she finds an inspiration she will combine different elements from images that she has selected and create her own unique painting. Also, Shannon enjoys creating and listening to poetry during her time in the Thumbs Up Gallery. When a new artist arrives to the studio, Shannon likes to make them feel right at home with a smile and a warm welcome. She is an amazing friend.
