Auf der Elbe vor Cuxhaven

On the 31st July 2017 the "Swedish Reefer" (1992, 13,930DWT) arrives in the River Fal for lay-up assisted by the local tug "St.Piran" (1979). The "Sweedish Reefer" arrived from St.Petersburg to join sister vessels "Hellas Reefer" (1991, 13,930DWT) and "Nederland Reefer" (1991, 13,958DWT).

The sight of elderly reefers being laid up in the River Fal, Cornwall during the Southern Hemisphere winter is becoming common but time is running out for these ships as container vessels carry more of the chilled food.

I took my first railfan trip with my friend Paul in August of 1965 up to NW Minnesota. We stopped at Breckenridge on August 29 to photograph this Great Northern train arriving to have the first two reefers switched out. GP35 3027 is on the point with GP30 #3014 second in line with a GE U25B trailing. The weather was awful with intermittent showers and Fall like temperatures. Wish I had opened up the aperture on the camera at least by one f-stop!!!
