CRI&P X-SP6562West crosses the Canadian River near Logan, NM on March 04, 1974. I want to say this was RI Tr#61 and therefore not an extra but I really don't remember. At any rate all of these "dirty mty's" will most likely be forwarded to the PFE facility in Tuscon after arrival in El Paso.
Standing at the sides, I wanted to go on the rocks and traverse to the edge of this reef just to see what's at the end. Laziness got the best of me so I just photograph the sides. Now I wish I've gone that extra mile, though.
Before I left the area, Brockport had one solid customer for the Falls Road RR. The cold storage in Brockport took cryo-trans reefers for as long as I could remember and I always loved getting photos of them working the place. An ancient building worked with ancient power, it truly was a nice scene.
Since I left, Brockport has gained an orange juice customer that takes Tropicana Reefers and has added enough business to the railroad that there are now two jobs on the railroad during a busy day. I hope to see those in person come a few weeks from now when I head home for a little bit. It's nice to see a line that Conrail wanted dead claw its way back to relevancy with the help of a great company like GVT.
In this photo you can see RS11 #1802 shoving into the cold storage facility with a pair of empties to be loaded. This NKP product is still my favorite locomotive on earth, as I spent a good portion of my childhood and adulthood following it around the area. Fit with a Leslie S3L, poling pockets, and pilot stripes, there's nothing quite as photogenic as this unit in the area.
Side note: Once upon a time, the now retired trainmaster and engineer of this shortline invited me up into the cab of their RS32 #2035 to chat while they switched the facility. The guy was a friend of my father's and they chased trains around WNY back in the 90s so we always had a quick chat when time allowed, but this time it would be in the cab. Not even 5 minutes later while shoving the empties in, I hear a thumping sound and feel the telltale vibrations of an "uh-oh". I looked over to the engineer with wide eyes, right as he told me to get the hell out of the cab. The B-end of the car ahead of us had derailed, and the last thing they needed was a train geek to be seen in the cab when that happened. That was years ago now so, who's to say it ever happened in the first place. Good times.
FEC 430 pulls out of the Trujilio & Sons industrial spur in Hialeah, FL on the FEC downtwon job. Customers have dwindled down to almost nothing on the FEC here, with the only regular remaining shippers being Florida Bulk and Trujilio & Sons and a few shippers getting served as needed. The spur to the right still serves Vision Candles, where a tank of wax is spotted every month or so. Several customers have disappeared within the last year or so: Omni Transloading once received reefers and boxcars almost daily just a year ago or so, but now appears to have consolidated all its rail traffic to another warehouse near the airport. Gilda Industries once received hoppers of flour every few weeks but no longer appears to do so. Dependable Warehousing received boxcars a few days a week but hasn't gotten service in a good year. That leaves Trujilio and Florida Bulk as daily shippers and Vision Candles, Isaac Industries, Petro Choice, and the water treatment plant with infrequent switches. Miami, FL

Frisco westbound freight "QSF" passes under Santa Fe tracks. Oh yes, there HAD to be a caboose, or at least there used too be. And a reefer car too. If that Santa Fe boxcar has the right kind of trucks, it could be an express boxcar for passenger service, but pressed into freight service now.

A reefer ship is a refrigerated cargo ship typically used to transport perishable cargo, which require temperature-controlled handling, such as fruits, meat, vegetables, dairy products, and similar items.
