“We had challenged in the first days because the theory behind the system is scientific but the training was intensive and that we picked up and managed to understand and master the system,” said Mtonya.

He said they have learnt that the sensors have a wider range of coverage therefore able to notify people before it even strikes Malawi giving enough time for DCCMS to warn people and avoid deaths and disasters.

The unit can run at 2 speeds (1+7/8 or 7+1/2 inches per second). The motor speed is reduced bu the small belts and pulleys here, to get the 2 speeds, the capstan belt (the large one at the top) is moved between the motor pulley and the output of the reduction drive.

Laser hair reduction is a process of reducing growth of body hairs by use of special lasers. These lasers work specifically on the hair roots (follicle) without causing any damage to surrounding skin. First and foremost the hair quality is assessed and any organic/hormonal cause if any should be ruled out or treated otherwise the results shall be suboptimal. The chances of burn in this process are rare unless one is too careless and uses very high energy. This process delays the growth cycle of hairs and also makes the thicker hair much more finer. These lasers do not work on white hairs. Visit Us:https://www.resplendentcosmetics.com/laser.php.

Historical - Global Threat Reduction Initiative

The IAEA has welcomed the US announcement of a new comprehensive global initiative to address the issue of nuclear security around the world and reduce the threat of nuclear terrorism.

On 26 May 2004, the Global Threat Reduction Initiative (GTRI) was announced by Spencer Abraham, United States Secretary of Energy, at a meeting with IAEA senior officials at the Agency headquarters in Vienna, Austria. The initiative aims to minimize as quickly as possible the amount of nuclear material available that could be used for nuclear weapons. It will also seek to put into place mechanisms to ensure that nuclear and radiological materials and related equipment -- wherever they may be in the world -- are not used for malicious purposes.

Shake reduction is a good thing. 1/5 shutter even at ISO 400. I could have went to 800, but didn't see the need. I think a flash should have ruined this shot too. The spotlights were bad enough.

Maria enjoys having lunch at the Steppin' Stone, an Oxford community centre run by The Porch, a charity that aims to provide day long support for homeless and vulnerably housed people. A part of the food served at the the Steppin' Stone is sourced from the Oxford Food Bank.

The Oxford Food Bank is a food charity with a double mission: feed the community and protect the environment. It collects surplus food from local supermarkets and wholesalers and delivers it for free to around 60 registered charities in the Oxford area. Even though the food received is rejected by supermarkets as "surplus" food, it is good quality food that would have been thrown away - most often because of a date stamped on it. "Best Before" is still good after.

Note: This photo is part of an ongoing project on food waste that I have been zooming in over the past years. Most of these photos have never been published anywhere and have sat on an external hard-drive for too long. I decided to use more of Flickr, so over the next months I will be uploading here photos taken for the project (aiming at one-per-day). If you're interested in the subject, keep an eye on the "Love Food Not Waste" album.

******************************************************************************

While one billion people across the planet suffer from hunger, the amount of food wastage taking place every single day in developed countries is obscene. With up to a third of all food thrown away, producing food simply to bin it is a waste of all those precious resources – land, water, energy – that were put into growing, processing and transporting it.

My photo project, ‘Love Food Not Waste’, illustrates some of the levels of the food waste reduction pyramid: Feeding Landfills is the lowest level in the hierarchy and should be illegal; Feeding AD Plants, which, despite not being the best way of dealing with surplus food, at least generates modest amounts of energy, and also fertiliser; and Feeding Bellies, where food waste heroes such as freegans and food charities help rescue some of the surplus food and re-distribute it to people in need.

A little linocut based on my watercolour of Greg Durrett for JKPP. It looks less and less like him, but that wasn't really the point any more. It's nice to do a lino portrait anyway, even if it was just a quick test one. (I cut it whilst manning my stall at a Christmas fair)

The Amur leopard, Panthera Pardus Orientalis, is the rarest big cat in the world and yet is still a relatively unknown species of leopard outside of its homeland in Russia. Also known as the Far Eastern leopard the approximate population stands at about 35 individuals remaining in the wild. These leopards now only exist in the southern most tip of the Russian Far East along the borders with China in the Khasan Region of Primorsky Krai.

With its long winter coat the Amur leopard is well adapted to the harsh climate of the Amur-Ussuri region. The hairs of its summer coat are 2.5 cm long whereas in the winter they grow to 7 cm long when it also lightens to a pale cream colour. Its fur has larger and more widely spaced rosettes than other leopards, with thick dark borders. It also has longer legs, probably an adaptation for walking through snow. The male Amur leopard weighs between 32-48 kg, with exceptionally large males up to 60-75 kg. Females are smaller than the males weighing between 25-43 kg.

Amur Leopards tend to avoid living or hunting too close to tiger territory to avoid direct competition for prey. They normally hunt at night using the silent stalk and ambush technique, one that is also used by the tiger. During the attack phase the leopard may reach speeds of up to 35 miles per hour but this is sustainable only for a very short time. The main prey species of the Amur leopard are roe deer, red deer, musk deer, sika deer, wild boar, hares and badgers. Leopards are adapted for their carnivorous diet. They have large, powerful jaws and long pointed canine teeth to help them grab and hold their prey. The premolars in the back of their mouth have surfaces specially designed for shearing and chewing meat and are referred to as ‘carnassial’ teeth. They also have sharp, pointed papillae on their tongue to help them remove meat from bones.

Deforestation, the use of animal parts for traditional medicine and conflict with humans has had a devastating effect on the Amur leopard population. There has also been a drastic reduction in the number of prey species, and further disruption due to mineral extraction and extensive road building. The Amur leopard has been a protected species in Russia since 1956, but still there is a problem with poaching.

There are nearly 200 Amur leopards in the captive population worldwide, many of which are in European zoos. The European population is managed by Europaeisches Erhaltungszucht Programme an organized captive breeding program. Unfortunately the captive population of Amur leopards comes from only 9 wild-born founders, and therefore, several of the animals are considered highly inbred. There is a proposal to capture some wild Amur leopards to place in zoos to provide additional founders from the wild. The Amur leopard in captivity may live for 20 years or more while in the wild they are believed to survive for anything up to 12 years.

First Lady Jeannette Kagame launched the 'All-in' Campaign to end adolescent AIDS in Kigali on 7 July 2016.

Launched under the theme, “Ending adolescent HIV/AIDS in Africa for sustainable development” this continental campaign is championed by the Organisation of African First Ladies Against HIV/AIDS (OAFLA), with the support of the ONE UN family and the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).

In Rwanda, this campaign is spearheaded by the Office of the First Lady through Imbuto Foundation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH), ONE UN Family and PEPFAR.

The campaign seeks to explore possible ways of reaching adolescents in various capacities by engaging, mobilising and empowering them as leaders and actors of social change, placing adolescent HIV firmly on political agendas.

The campaign aims to unite decision-makers in order to accelerate reductions in AIDS-related deaths and new HIV infections among adolescents by the year 2020 and is part of the global effort to end the AIDS epidemic for all, by 2030.

comparison before/after.

process:

- turn OFF high iso noise reduction on the cam, shoot raw

- take several equal pictures with iso 3200 (in my case six)

- (optional) take the RAWs and process them with Noise Ninja or smth similar in a VERY modest way (luminance and color at +3 works fine)

- load all 6 pics as layers of one file in photoshop

- place a SLIGHT smart blur filter (radius 2, thres 3) on each of the six layers

- average them by lowering the opacity of each layer

- make an "all layers" copy and apply a highpass filter with 3 or 4 pixels on it

- change the layer mode of this layer to overlay

DONE!

works as well with lower iso pictures
