BIG 5. Lion. Madikwe Game Reserve. South Africa. Nov/2020
Lion
The lion (Panthera leo) is a species in the family Felidae; it is a muscular, deep-chested cat with a short, rounded head, a reduced neck and round ears, and a hairy tuft at the end of its tail. The lion is sexually dimorphic; males are larger than females with a typical weight range of 150 to 250 kg (330 to 550 lb) for the former and 120 to 182 kg (265 to 400 lb) for the latter. Male lions have a prominent mane, which is the most recognisable feature of the species. A lion pride consists of a few adult males, related females and cubs. Groups of female lions typically hunt together, preying mostly on large ungulates. The species is an apex and keystone predator, although they scavenge when opportunities occur. Some lions have been known to hunt humans, although the species typically does not.
Typically, the lion inhabits grasslands and savannas but is absent in dense forests. It is usually more diurnal than other big cats, but when persecuted it adapts to being active at night and at twilight. In the Pleistocene, the lion ranged throughout Eurasia, Africa and the Americas from the Yukon to Peru but today it has been reduced to fragmented populations in Sub-Saharan Africa and one critically endangered population in western India

Madikwe Game Reserve
The Madikwe Game Reserve is a protected area in South Africa, part of the latest park developments in the country. Named after the Madikwe or Marico River, on whose basin it is located, it was opened in 1991 and comprises 750 km2 of bushland north of the small town Groot-Marico up to the Botswana border.
Madikwe Game Reserve lies 90 km north of Zeerust on what used to be farm land, but owing to the poor soil type, farming was not that successful. After extensive research, the South African Government found that this land would best be utilised as a provincial park, to economically uplift this otherwise rather poor area.
The process reintroducing wildlife to the area began in 1992 under the codename Operation Phoenix which relocated entire breeding herds of elephants, Cape buffaloes, south-central black rhinos and southern white rhinos along with various species of antelopes. Following Operation Phoenix, Madikwe has also successfully reintroduce rarer predatory species such as lions, cheetahs, spotted hyenas and Cape wild dogs bringing the total large mammal population of the reserve to over 10 000. There are currently more than 60 species of mammal in the park.

Reserva do Madikwe

Village Urumulu, Araku Block, Dist. Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, INDIA..Children pose for photograph inside the Anganwadi centre. .The One Full Meal is a state government programme that aims at improving the nutrient intake of pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers and reducing the prevalence and severity of maternal anemia. The programme reaches over 350,000 pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers across some 26,000 anganwadi centres (about 30 per cent of ICDS projects in state) located in villages where malnutrition rates are high. Some 7,600 (29 per cent) of these anganwadi centres are located in hard to reach Adivasi villages. UNICEF aids this ICDS programme with training officials, development and capacity building in aganwadis. One Full Meal entitles pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers to receive a free nutritious meal every day between 11 am and 2 pm at the village anganwadi centre 25 days per month. The hot-cooked meal - prepared daily by the anganwadi helper - contains 125 grams of cereal, 30 grams of pulses, 50 grams of green leafy vegetables, 50 grams of egg and 200 ml of milk, and provides 1052 kilocalories, 33 grams of protein, and about 500 mg of calcium (i.e. about 40 per cent of the daily requirement of these nutrients). After the meal, the women who participate in the programme receive on-the-spot iron and folic acid supplements for the control of iron deficiency and anemia, are counseled by the anganwadi worker on how to improve their dietary intake and nutrition, and are encouraged to use the services provided at the monthly Village Health and Nutrition Day. The anganwadi worker keeps a record of the women who are enrolled in the programme, the services they receive, the weight they gain during pregnancy and the weight of their children at birth. Vincent van Gogh 1853 - 1890
De zaaier, 1888
The sower
olieverf op doek / oil on canvas
Van Gogh made a number of variations on a theme depicting a sower in front of a setting sun. Especially striking in this version are the bright, unnatural colours and the unusual composition, in which the knotty tree in the foreground constitutes a diagonal division of the canvas. His inspiration for this may have come from a Japanese print.

The term ‘minimalism’ is a trend from early 19th century and gradually became an important movement in response to the over decorated design of the previous period.
Minimalist architecture became popular in the late 1980s in London and New York, where architects and fashion designers worked together in the boutiques to achieve simplicity, using white elements, cold lighting, large space with minimum objects and furniture.
Minimalist architecture simplifies living space to reveal the essential quality of buildings and conveys simplicity in attitudes toward life. It is highly inspired from the Japanese traditional design and the concept of Zen philosophy.

Governor Markell told the 11th annual Delaware Healthy Mothers and Infants Consortium Summit on April 13 at the Chase Center that health equity and comprehensive access to contraception will help to reduce the state’s infant mortality rate and “change the trajectory” of lives. “So many of these babies, they get off to a rough start in life,” the Governor told the more than 400 attendees, “and it’s hard for them to catch up.”
Delaware’s infant mortality has declined more than 17% from 2005 to 7.7 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2013. DHSS Secretary Rita Landgraf said, “While any loss of life is too great – especially for Delaware’s families who must endure that unspeakable pain – it is clear that by working together we have made progress and we are trending in the right direction.” Secretary Landgraf called on members of the consortium to further embrace the fact that housing, education transportation, environment and economic policies are all, indeed, health policies. “That is practicing true population health for all.”
Gov. Markell said it’s important to health care providers to ask women of a child-bearing age: “Do you intend to have a baby in the next year?” If the answer is no, he said, women might not know all of the contraception methods available to them, including new IUDs “that are incredibly effective and completely reversible.” In Delaware, 57% of all pregnancies are unplanned, a rate that is higher than the U.S. average. The Governor said enabling women to become pregnant only when they want to enhances opportunity “and changes the trajectory of their lives.” The Division of Public Health has formed a public-private partnership with Upstream USA to provide training and advice to health centers to improve reproductive health in the state and access to contraception.
Attendees also heard from Public Health Director Dr. Karyl Rattay; Dr. David Paul, Chair of the Delaware Health Mothers and Infants Consortium; and keynote speakers, Dr. Michael Lu, associate administrator of the Maternal and Child Health Bureau of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; and Dr. Sarah Verbiest from the Center for Maternal and Infant Health at the University of North Carolina.
Dr. Lu said in 2013, 40% of babies were born to unmarried mothers. He said researchers believe that the chronic stress that many women live under today is passed along to their babies. “You’ve got to start taking care of women before they get pregnant,” he said. He said actions include: Improve women’s health across the life course; strengthen families and communities; and address social and economic inequities.
Dr. Verbiest echoed those sentiments and said one of the challenges for the health care system is how to manage pre-conception health. She said one strategy is to engage communities in the conversation. “As a society, how do we care about our moms and babies?” she asked in pointing to the fact that 30% of low-income moms can’t afford diapers.
This boat is a 1986 27' S2 sailboat. The price is Now Reduced to $13,000
I purchased this boat in August of 2012. For personal reasons I need to sell it already. I put over $5,000.00 into the boat the first month I got it. S2 Yachts has a great reputation for hand laid and hand crafted boat building. One of the best sailboats ever built. It is one of the best built boats you can buy and that is why I bought it. They built 600-800 of all their other performance models. This is the only cruiser/performance model they ever built and they only built 85 of them, a very rare boat. The company that built this boat is still building boats. You can find them at TiaraYachts.com. This is hull number 52 of the cruising model. This boat is in very, very good condition, perfect for its age. The interior is all solid teak wood and no interior damage at all. Everything on the boat works great. The 20 hp Yanmar starts each and every time, has no smoke and runs great. It sips 1/3 gallon per hour. The boat is set up for extended cruising. No rust on any deck hardware or rigging. 90% of the running rigging is new. The main sail is full battened with no spots or stains and has the original factory logo. This boat will not need anything for years. I have gone thru the entire boat. Just walk on and go to the Bahamas. It is a very solid and sweet sailing boat. I am the third owner and the name has never been changed. I have all the original paper work dating back to when she was delivered to the original owner. I hauled the boat out in Melbourne Florida at Eau Gallie Boat Works (12-3-12) and had the bottom painted (Pettit Ultimate 40 Ablative paint), new zincs, packing box hose replaced. I have receipts. No blisters, no soft spots. The tiller was sanded all the way down and had Pettit Trinadad Sr paint. I was on the way to the Florida Keys. It made the trip perfectly. All controls lead into the 8' long cockpit. With the tiller this boat is super easy to single-hand.
The following is a list of items that I purchased in the first month I got it and I have all receipts and all are under warranty some have extended warranties :

I am currently living aboard the boat and sailing around the Savannah area. This boat needs absolutely nothing. It is truly a "walk on and go sailing" ready boat. The Deck has no soft spots and the keel bolts are clean and shinny. I will consider any serious offer. I know how nice of a boat I have and anyone that knows S2 yachts knows how nice they are. So be serious.

WILLIAMS SET
www.flickr.com/photos/45676495@N05/sets/72157625654743134...
The original FW07 was a ground effects car designed by Patrick Head. It made its debut part of the way through the 1979 season with drivers Alan Jones and Clay Regazzoni. Regazzoni claimed Williams first ever win in the 1979 British Grand Prix followed by three consecutive wins for Jones in Germany, Austria and Holland and a fourth win in Canada. Just missing out to Ferrari in the constructors championship.
For 1980 Carlos Ruetermann replaced Regazoni. Jones won five races Argentina, France, Britain, Canada and the USA and Ruetermann won in Mexico to give Jones the 1980 drivers championship and Williams the 1980 Constructors Champioship.
For 1981 the FW07 had evolved into the FW07C the FIA had banned sliding side skirts for ground effects and Jones a hydraulic suspension system. On the tracks Jones won two races the seasons first race the US GP West and the seasons closing race at Caesars Palace USA while Ruetermann also scored two wins in Brazil and Belgium. Williams again won the constructors championship and Ruetermann was second in the drivers championship to Nelson Piquet. The FW07C was developed into the stop gap FW07D for the opening races of 1982 pending the arrival of the FW08.
One drivers championship, Two Constructors Championships 15 wins and 300 points not a bad motor.
This car raced at Silverstone in the FIA Masters Historic Formula One race

The initiative is part of the Government’s mission to restore and strengthen local policing in communities and reduce or prevent anti-social behaviour (ASB). As part of this, there will be a greater visibility of Greater Manchester Police (GMP) officers and partners as we work together across crime hot spot areas.
Kate Green, Deputy Mayor for Safer and Stronger Communities, said: "We’re determined to ensure Greater Manchester is a safer place for everyone. The Safer Streets Summer Initiative is a testament to our dedication to reducing crime and enhancing the quality of life for our residents.
“By continuing to work closely with our communities and partners, we aim to create an environment where everyone feels safe and can enjoy not only the summer but all year round and every year. We’ll be working hard to ensure our town centres are safe and welcoming for all.”
Assistant Chief Constable Matt Boyle, GMP’s lead for Local Policing, said: “Our neighbourhoods are negatively impacted by various crimes such as the illegal use of e-bikes, drug dealing and other ASB.
“As a force, it’s our mission to listen to our community’s concerns and take action where crime is committed. Our proactive approach to tackling neighbourhood crime has meant that since 2021, we’ve reduced burglary by a third and vehicle crime by a quarter, thanks to the dedication of our local neighbourhood teams, working closely with partners across the region.
“Over the summer months, they will be focusing on increasing engagement with our communities to listen and respond to their concerns. Residents and business owners will also see an increase in the visibility of officers and partners, as we work together to ensure a safe summer for all. This isn’t about trying to spoil people’s fun over the summer months, it is making sure everyone can enjoy themselves without feeling unsafe or being hurt.
“We welcome the Home Office initiative, which perfectly aligns to the neighbourhood policing model our force implemented locally two years ago. Safe4Summer is the perfect opportunity to highlight the strength of our partnerships in Greater Manchester, and our determination to minimise crime and disorder and to ensure Greater Manchester is a safer and more desirable place for all.”
TravelSafe Partnership Manager at Transport for Greater Manchester, Kate Green, said: “While the vast majority of people using the Bee Network do so safely and responsibly, we know that crime and anti-social behaviour increases over school holidays, and that is not something we will tolerate.
“We work hard every day to keep people safe, whether that’s through our engagement programme or the many proactive operations that take place. We will have an increased presence across the Bee Network to prevent and deter incidents, helping people to travel and enjoy their summer safely and with confidence.”
In 2023, Greater Manchester Police made a commitment that every district ward has a named local police officer, and we would keep communities informed through our use of the community messaging service, Bee in the Loop, which provides the latest news on events and incidents straight to your email inbox.
In April 2025, we welcomed the opportunity to further strengthen our neighbourhood offer, with an increase in numbers of neighbourhood officers by 176, to help GMP to continue to deliver in tackling crime and working with partners and communities to keep our streets safe.
To receive free direct email alerts about how your Neighbourhood Policing Team is keeping your area safe, sign up to Bee in the Loop - www.beeintheloop.co.uk.

The Lady Chapel at Lichfield Cathedral contains a wonderful collection of 16th century Flemish glass, most of which originated in the abbey of Herkenrode prior to its closure during the French Revolution. The glass was brought by Sir Brooke Boothby and installed in the cathedral in 1805, filling seven of the nine huge windows at the east end (the remaining two are filled with rich but somewhat restored glass from Antwerp acquired decades later to better complement the windows than the armorial glass that was initially installed to fill these last two openings).
The glass was taken out and sent to the Barley Studio in York for conservation over many years, leaving the Lady Chapel plain glazed and unusually light for the interim. The glass returned in 2015 looking better than it had for a long time, being more legible with the effect of many insensitive mending-leads reduced and lost areas of paintwork in some areas such as faces reinstated in cold paint to restore readability to the work.
Lichfield is our best known three-spired cathedral, and one I have visited many times over the years (both for business and pleasure).
The cathedral suffered more than most during the Civil War when the Close was besieged (twice) and the central spire shot down (the aftermath of which is memorably conjured in one of the windows). As a result of this (and the soft red sandstone) the cathedral has been heavily restored and nearly all the furnishings are Victorian, but there are some notable tombs and monuments, and every time I come here I seem to notice more medieval survivals of some kind in various corners.

Coal power plants are the major sources of CO2 emissions. One way to reduce the pollutant emissions is to burn the coal particles in oxyfuel environment rather than plain air condition. In the oxyfuel environment, N2 in the air is replaced by the CO2 to control the combustion process and that eliminates NOx emissions. The burned product mostly contains CO2, which can be separated and compressed into liquid form for easy transportation. The goal of our project is to investigate the pulverized coal combustion in oxyfuel environment under well defined boundary conditions. We have fabricated an open type swirl stabilized burner and carried out experiments in a controlled environment. The images are showing the coal particles burning in the O2/CO2 environment supported by the pilot methane-air flame, which appears as blue in color. The pilot flame is a swirl stabilized flame anchored on top of the burner and heats the coal particles in order to ignite them. Laser diagnostic techniques have been applied to measure the flow and scalar parameters of coal particle combustion. The photos are taken with Fujifilm FinePix HS10 and no image processing is applied. Our group members: Saravanan Balusamy, Ruigang Zhou, Alexander Schmidt.
