Steam turbines spin too fast to be of much use directly. They therefore drive huge gearwheels like this to reduce their spindle speeds (and increase their torque) to drive other machinary.
Marsa is my favourite place in Malta. It has a lot to offer: Some old streets, an industrial harbour area, a power station and a refugee centre (Marsa Open Centre).
This project involves constructing approximately 11 miles of second track along the North Carolina Railroad (NCRR) corridor in Rowan County. A second track will allow trains to pass more frequently, reducing congestion, increasing capacity and reliability, and decreasing travel time between Raleigh and Charlotte. Additionally, the work will involve upgrading some railroad crossings and permanently closing others, extending Kimball Road from Main Street to Chapel Street, and constructing a bridge carrying the North Carolina Railroad tracks over Kimball Road. The project limits extend along U.S. 29 from Airport Road in Salisbury to 18th Street in Kannapolis.
This project is one of three that in total will add approximately 26 miles of new second track along the main line. These projects will provide an uninterrupted double track spanning 92 miles between Greensboro and Charlotte.
This section of the NCRR is part of the busiest railroad corridor in North Carolina. This project is among improvements to the NCRR corridor between Raleigh and Charlotte to increase railroad capacity, efficiency, and safety.
Project contract was awarded in November 2013.
Project is currently under construction.

*** Price reduced to £180 including delivery! ***
I bought the lens around 10 months ago from Jessops for £300 however the lens retails now for £250. I'm looking for around £200 plus £10 to cover the cost of recorded special delivery, or you can collect it if you wish.
The lens is in good condition with no scratches. Only very minor external marks on the lens which are barely noticeable and do not affect images etc.
The lens also has a good Macro capability of 1:2.3 and an HSM motor meaning it can be used on the Nikon D40 and D60 as well as all other Nikon DSLRs.
The lens has served me well, however I have barely had it on my camera since purchasing an 18-50mm f2.8 for especially low-light situations. You can find the lens on Jessops website here: www.jessops.com/online.store/categories/Accessories/Camera Accessories/Lenses/products/Sigma/17-70mm f2.8-4.5 DC HSM (Nikon AFD)-74275/Show.html
I can accept paypal or cash if the lens is picked up in person. Let me know if you have any questions :)
Lens comes with hood and case, plus caps.

Jane Ruchman has led the way on the Gallatin National Forest in reducing resource consumption and helping to reduce the environmental impact of our day-to-day operations.
She has been a leader in recycling by coordinating with Montana State University engineering students to create collection boxes for used propane canisters as well as a designing a recycler for bear spray canisters.
As soon as they bear spray recycling machine is fully developed, Yellowstone National Park already has plans to purchase a machine and place it at their headquarters. Collection bins will be set up at locations around the Greater Yellowstone area and transported to the park headquarters for recycling.
Jane has also led efforts to include requirements for sustainability in ranking applications for campground concession permits, the requirement for fire incident command teams to recycle at fire camps, and has been active in pursuit of grant money to retrofit historic buildings on the forest and other locations in the Greater Yellowstone Area to obtain Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (perhaps better known as LEED) certification.
Her actions benefit our agency, numerous partners, and the public, and she is clearly deserving of the Regional Forester’s Honor Award for Leadership in Sustainability.

Reducing the simple act of waiting for a light to change to the very basic elements.
HARTFORD – Connecticut Senate Republican lawmakers are calling on the state legislature to temporarily reduce the Connecticut sales tax rate to provide relief to families being crushed by surging inflation.
"Connecticut’s state budget is benefitting from inflation as the state sales tax and gas tax brings in new, unplanned for revenue – a result of surging prices. Meanwhile, CT residents are struggling to balance their own family budgets with no relief in sight as inflation drives up the costs of everything, from food to energy to home heating oil," said Senate Republican Leader Kevin Kelly (R-Stratford).
"Senate Republicans want to direct the influx in tax revenue back to residents and provide immediate relief from the crushing impact of inflation," said Senate Republican Leader Pro Tempore Paul Formica (R-East Lyme).
Senate Republicans are proposing to reduce the sales tax from 6.35% to 5.99% and eliminate the additional 1% meals tax from February 15 through the end of calendar year 2022.
"The government's budget grows, while family budgets get crushed. There must be a better way, and there is. We want to help working- and middle-class families when it comes to kitchen table economics and reduce every day financial strains that make it harder and harder to budget for a family," said Sen. Kelly.
The proposal will result is a temporary tax reduction totaling $315.1 million ($132.3 million in FY 22 and $182.8 million in FY 23) during the difficult months ahead.
Senate Republicans emphasized that this is just the beginning of the policies Connecticut must advance to make our state more affordable, address burdens, and provide relief during tough times.
The state budget remains whole even with this tax reduction. The state budget is in surplus and is already directing a record amount of excess revenue to pay down on the state's pension debt, a policy adopted in the 2017 bipartisan budget. Connecticut is expected to collect over $155.2 million more in state sales tax revenue than originally projected in fiscal year 2022 and $144.6 million more in fiscal year 2023. In addition, CT is expected to collect over $20 million more in gross receipts tax revenue (one of the state’s gas taxes) than originally projected in fiscal year 2022 and $25.6 million more in fiscal year 2023.
Connecticut can afford the proposed tax cut with the additional sales tax revenue and gross receipts tax revenue collected by the state as a result of surging inflation to provide a temporary sales tax reduction during this difficult time.
"The growth in these revenues above and beyond the revenue already counted on in the state budget will allow for nearly a full year of a sales tax reduction, giving families substantial relief to get through the most difficult months ahead," said Sen. Kelly.
Proposal overview:
1)Decrease the sales tax from 6.35% to 5.99% from February 15 through the end of calendar year 2022.
Reduction would only apply to the sales tax that is at the 6.35% rate (e.g., no reduction to the 7.75% "luxury" rate for motor vehicles over $50,000 or jewelry over $5,000).
2)Eliminate the meals tax surcharge from February 15 through the end of calendar year 2022.
The meals tax surcharge is one percent added to the base 6.35% sales tax rate. It applies to meals at restaurants and prepared foods sold at supermarkets and grocery stores.

This is a drawstring bag that some t-shirt sheets came in from Target. No way was I ever going to get the sheets neatly packed back in the bag for storage, so the bag has a new life as toy sorter :) I did the applique to cover a "sticky" mess left from the packaging. I have two more of these little bags waiting to be spruced up!!
Meeting: A Promise Renewed – Americas | Reducing inequities for maternal and child health / SEP.10.2013 / INTERNATIONAL / Overall, the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean have made great strides in recent decades in reducing deaths of mothers, newborns, infants and children and improving access to reproductive health services. But too many women’s and children’s lives are still cut short – and many others live with permanent ill health – due to preventable causes. These tragedies are concentrated in disadvantaged and marginalized populations. Conquering the persisting inequities in reproductive, maternal, neonatal, child and adolescent health in the region requires a renewed commitment and new approaches. Scale-up of evidence-based interventions and robust partnerships among public and private sector actors are among the region’s critical needs at this time and will be the focus of the conference. Yesterday was the most beautiful day here in Ohio. It was sunny and warm (well 40 degrees which is warm this time of year). The morning was frosty, with temps down in the teens. All the sap that was flowing the day before had stopped and was frozen in the spiles. It didn’t take long for them to thaw out with the sun and warmth and start flowing again. These are prime sugaring temps; you want it to be above freezing during the day and below freezing at night. The rest of this week and next week look like it’s going to be beautiful, especially for sugaring.

If Sweden is to reach its climate goal of reducing emissions in the transport sector, it is vital that the transition to zero emission transport is supported. The first electric trucks are now in operation, and as the Nordic region’s largest container port, APM Terminals Gothenburg will encourage haulage companies that have started their journey towards electrified truck transport with a new priority solution.
Every day, an average of 1,000 trucks pass through the gates of APM Terminals Gothenburg. Only a few of these trucks are currently electric, but APM Terminals and its partners in the Gothenburg goods hub want to encourage the transition.
The new solution - to be implemented on 1 March 2023 - will allow electric trucks to bypass other trucks at APM Terminals via a reserved lane, and they will be allocated priority handling within the terminal area.
"Sustainability is one of our cornerstones at APM Terminals, and our own container handling has been fossil-free for several years,” says Brian Bitsch, Commercial Manager at APM Terminals Gothenburg. “Many haulage companies have now started to electrify parts of their truck fleet, an initiative that we want to support. Though the journey to truck transport being completely fossil-free is long, we hope that this setup will be an incentive and a small step along the way."
“We will evaluate the solution on an ongoing basis and develop it based on customer needs and new technical conditions,” he concludes.
