07-55 Inverness to Kings Cross.
The wiper failed operating in the Pitlochry area during heavy rain.With authorisation I continued forward at a much reduced speed to Perth where the train was terminated. Control sent a Hitachi mobile technician from Edinburgh to hopefully fix the problem.
Unfortunately this wasn’t possible. NR Scotland refused a run to Edinburgh at a much reduced speed due to other services being impacted. A rescue loco was arranged from Mossend Yard to top the train through to Craigentinny. Unfortunately by that time I had to leave the train in the hands of the Hitachi technician and return home passenger to Newcastle due to excessive overtime issues.
Last I heard from control the train was being hauled by a GBRF class 66. The first such event since the introduction of Azuma’s in 2018. Can anyone confirm the identity of the 66 and know of any photos taken of it please?
Control were surprised when Hitachi told them the maximum speed of such a move hauled by a conventional locomotive was a mere 30 mph…. Apparently a class 57 with an auto coupler fitted along with a driver was not available.
At the time these photos were taken the mechanical signalling at Bridlington didn't have long left and evidence of the forthcoming resignalling was very much in evidence.
It was a real oasis of traditional signalling and Bridlington South SB was a lovely signal box to work in its mechanical form, though significantly reduced from its heyday.
The Cathedral of the Dormition (Russian: Успенский Собор, or Uspensky sobor) is a Russian Orthodox church dedicated to the Dormition of the Theotokos. It is located on the north side of Cathedral Square of the Moscow Kremlin in Russia, where a narrow alley separates the north from the Patriarch's Palace with the Twelve Apostles Church. Southwest is Ivan the Great Bell Tower. Separately in the southwest, also separated by a narrow passage from the church, is the Palace of Facets. The Cathedral is regarded as the mother church of Muscovite Russia. In its present form it was constructed between 1475–79 at the behest of the Moscow Grand Duke Ivan III by the Italian architect Aristotele Fioravanti. From 1547 to 1896 it is where the Coronation of the Russian monarch was held. In addition, it is the burial place for most of the Moscow Metropolitans and Patriarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church.
Dormition Cathedral is a tremendous 6 pillared building with 5 apses and 5 domes. It was modeled after the Assumption Cathedral in Vladimir, in that it made extensive use of limestone masonry on a high limestone base, and was laid out as a three nave church with a vaulted cross-dome. It is built of well-trimmed white-stone blocks. However, Fioravanti did not use cantilever vaults as was common in Russian architecture, but introduced groin vaults and transverse arches. For the upper portion of the building, he used specially-made bricks, larger than the standard Russian size, which reduced weight and allowed for more slender arch supports. Thus, the easternmost pair of columns in front of the apses are typically Russian in the use of massive rectangular open piers, whereas the remaining four are simpler Corinthian columns. The slim shape of these columns contributes significantly to the light, spacious effect of the interior.
Inside, the church decoration is dominated by its fresco painting. The huge iconostasis dates from 1547, but its two highest tiers are later additions from 1626 and 1653/1654 under Patriarch Nikon. It addition to its liturgical function, the iconostasis also served as a sort of trophy wall, in that Russian Tsars would add the most important icons from cities they had conquered to its collection. One of the oldest, icons with the bust of Saint George dates from the 12th century and was transferred to Moscow by Tsar Ivan IV on the conquest of the city of Veliky Novgorod in 1561.
However, one of the most important cult images of the Russian Orthodox Church, the Theotokos of Vladimir kept at the Cathedral from 1395-1919 is now at the Tretyakov Gallery.

A quarter million people joined the Climate Action March around the world on Sep. 8, 2018, asking for immediate action to reduce climate change.
In San Francisco, thousands of activists created one the largest street murals ever made, covering five blocks of city streets with dozens of colorful scenes illustrating possible solutions to global warming, all around the City Hall plaza.
Each mural was designed by a different community group, and painted on the ground in large 35-feet wide circles, with washable tempera paint. Murals featured in this photo set were created by the Sierra Club ("Keep close to Nature's heart"), environmental students at UC Berkeley (“Fiat Lux”) and SFUSD (“Write History Wisely”).
Everyone was welcome to join and it was a sight to behold! Participants ranged from veteran environmentalists to young activists, with very diverse backgrounds, coming together from all across California and beyond. We used this creative art form to demand that our leaders act now to cut back on fossil fuels and switch over to renewable energy, before it’s too late.
High school students from ‘Generation: Our Climate’ participated actively in this event, and were interviewed by both KQED and KPFA. I volunteer with their group and am inspired by their knowledge and passion. I really enjoy our collaboration, which bridges the gap between generations that are too often separated into different silos.
The Climate March was also a great opportunity to reconnect with many of my activist friends, including Marilyn, Wayne and the Freedom Singers. We posed together in front of a colorful float of Mayahuel, the Aztec goddess of fertility, created by Latino activists in the wood shop of a Mission high school.
Kudos to art director David Solnit and team at 350.org for guiding the creation of these murals and many of the signs for this march -- inspiring a diverse community of citizens of all ages. Many thanks to all who marched, painted, chanted, organized and spoke up for a better world at the Climate Marches around the world. This wonderful blend of art, music and activism helped engage more people to fight for climate justice. Let there be light!

With a few clicks in Photoshop, you can make something out of nothing, reclaiming those otherwise wasted pixels and turning it into a work of art!
Okay, so it's NOT really a work of art, but you can still make use of what otherwise might have been deemed a throwaway shot. Here, my camera went off by accident. The original frame is a much wider shot angled oddly and naturally not well focused. I rotated, cropped, played with some levels and filters in Photoshop and "saved" an otherwise wasted frame! ^^

Polar cod (Boreogadus saida) was found to be sensitive to the warming scenarios and the model predicted that it would be extirpated in most of its range even under the milder warming scenario. This is due to its occurrence in the Arctic Ocean, which largely precludes it from moving northwards. Polar cod was predicted to be extirpated around Greenland and its abundance was largely reduced in other parts of the Arctic Ocean after 30 years of hypothetical warming. ORLANDO, Florida -
Boom.
The shotgun blast reverberates through the phone receiver. Breathless seconds pass before an eerily calm voice cuts through the ringing ear pressed against the other line.
“I just fired a round into the ceiling,” says the voice in a grave, matter-of-fact tone. “You have five minutes to tell me why the next one shouldn’t go through my skull.”
This harrowing crisis is one of dozens of roleplaying scenarios that 27 students assigned to the 143rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) encountered during an Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and Ask, Care, Escort – Suicide Intervention (ACE-SI) workshop conducted April 15-17, 2016, in Orlando, Fla.
“ASIST gives students the fundamental tools, knowledge and resources to help save the life an individual contemplating suicide,” said Gerald Felder, suicide program manager, 143rd ESC. “This course teaches students how to identify people expressing suicidal thoughts and behaviors and take a proactive approach in providing immediate and compassionate care for them through hands-on training.”
Created by LivingWorks Education, a social enterprise dedicated to saving lives through the creation, development and delivery of innovative training experiences, ASIST has trained more than 1 million people throughout the world on how to apply scientifically tested tools and techniques to reduce the risks associated with suicide. The U.S. Army partnered with LivingWorks in 2009 to integrate ASIST training in the Army’s suicide prevention campaign.
“[ASIST] is more than just a series of dry presentations that explain why people shouldn’t kill themselves,” said Army Spc. Grace Lee, an ASIST student serving as a transportation management coordinator for the 520th Movement Control Team in Orlando. “It breaks the ‘death by PowerPoint’ mold by creating a caring and comfortable environment that encourages students to share their ideas and personal experiences … The ASIST instructors encourage us to address one another on a first name basis, [and] I feel this practice helps students speak freely among themselves by reducing the tensions associated with rank and status.”
“The foundational framework of ASIST assumes that anyone can save a life,” added Felder, a native of Birmingham, Ala. “The program’s proactive approach gives students the confidence to take action with the understanding that they should strive for proficiency rather than perfection. ASIST emphasizes this distinction to remind students that their training is equivalent to applying first aid to a wounded comrade, and that they should reach out to their chaplain, behavioral health specialist, chain-of-command or other experts with the same skill set and resources to provide long-term care.
The workshop’s interactive audio-visual presentations, small group discussions and roleplaying scenarios culminate into a versatile program that provides practical training for Army Reserve Soldiers beyond their military obligations.
“This is the second time I’ve taken this course,” said Lee, a Honolulu, Hawaii, native currently working as a nurse for a Florida Hospital women’s care clinic. “Shortly after I received my ASIST training certification, I applied my newfound skills and knowledge to help my patients … Taking this course again reinforces what I learned, especially on how to identify the subtle signs of suicide and what questions to ask when you suspect someone is thinking about taking his or her own life.”
Suicides in the Army ranks rose sharply from 45 in 2001 to 165 in 2012. Three years later, this all-time high dropped by nearly 20 percent. Felder partially attributes this decrease to the surge of Soldiers and Department of the Army Civilians who have participated in an ASIST workshop. He punctuates this correlation with recent suicide statistics within his command.
“The 143rd ESC sadly lost eight Soldiers to suicide last year,” said Felder. “Since Jan.1, 2016, only one Soldier in this command has committed suicide. Although one life lost to suicide is too many, the fact that the command reported nine suicidal threats that were averted through intervention tells me that the Soldiers, civilians and family members of this command are communicating with one another and using the plethora of suicide prevention resources available to them to include the training many have received through the ASIST program.”
Although an analysis of the specific contributions of ASIST to the Army’s declining suicide rate may prove difficult to measure, its personable approach and collaborative environment have given thousands of Soldiers the confidence to uphold the Army values founded on the basic yet essential moral principle that all life is precious.
“I lost my brother and nearly lost my husband to suicide,” said Lee. “If I had ASIST training during those dark days, I may have spared my family and me from immense pain and hardship. People tend to forget that suicide takes a heavy toll on the living as well … I highly encourage my fellow Soldiers to enroll in ASIST training immediately and actively participate in all the activities with an open mind.”

Vienna Concert House (2006)
The Wiener Konzerthaus was opened in 1913. It is on the 3rd Viennese district road (Lothringerstraße) at the edge of the Inner City between Schwarzenberg Square and City Park .
Architectural History

1890 for a planned house music festivals should be considered as multi-purpose building to address a broader public than the just 200 meters away traditional Viennese Musikverein. The design by architect Ludwig Baumann for a Olympion contained several concert halls except an ice rink and a Bicycleclub. In addition, an open-air arena should offer 40,000 visitors. The skating rink and its adjacent buildings were realized in 1899 by Baumann plans, the Art Nouveau ensemble but fell in 1960 to a construction of the InterContinental Hotels Group to the victim. The Vienna Ice Skating Club is located on the then reduced by about a third place today. The popular freestyle wrestling at the Haymarket took place here.
Organised by Gustav Klimt and his friends art exhibition Vienna 1908 was held in a temporary exhibition building on the undeveloped site of the later concert hall. The Wiener Konzerthaus was finally built 1911-1913 by the Europe-wide Viennese theater architects Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer Younger (Office Fellner & Helmer ) in collaboration with Ludwig Baumann.
The theme of the concert hall was:
A facility for the care of fine music, a collection of artistic aspirations, a home for music and a house for Vienna.
On 19 October 1913 the Concert Hall in the presence of Emperor Franz Joseph I with a gala concert of the Vienna Concert Society was opened (now the Vienna Symphony Orchestra ). Richard Strauss composed this be Festive Prelude Op 61. Was combined with this modern work Beethoven's 9th Symphony - the juxtaposition of tradition and modernity should be so much in the first concert of the house.
The disintegration of Austria-Hungary brought tremendous social upheaval and financial crises - and thus flexibility and versatility was also necessary for lack of money. In addition to classical repertoire, there were in the 1920s and 1930s, important world premieres (including Arnold Schoenberg and Erich Wolfgang Korngold ), concerts with jazz and pop songs, speeches from science to spiritualism and poetry readings (including Karl Kraus ). Dance and ballroom events, some large conferences and world championships for boxing and fencing completed the program.
After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich in 1938, the program for impoverished "non- degenerate entertainment operation ", to many artists remained only the emigration.
After 1945, the concert hall also had the secondary task , " prop up " the bruised Austrian self-confidence in a musical way. In addition to the standard repertoire of classical and romantic and the Viennese Waltz , there were still premieres (eg Schoenberg's oratorio The Jacob's Ladder 1961) and international jazz and pop concerts. From May 1946 spaces for recording studios and administration at the German and in Vienna living music producer Gerhard Mendelson were rented, who is considered one of the most important pop producers in Austria in the postwar period.
After several modifications that changed the original Art Nouveau decoration slightly , the house was restored from 1972 to 1975 to the only slightly altered original plans. From 1998 to 2001 the house was renovated by architect Hans Puchhammer and expanded to include a new concert hall (New Hall) .
From 1989 to 2002 the Vienna Kathreintanz also took place in the concert hall .
Building

The floor plan approximately 70 x 40 meters large concert hall with the main entrance at the Lothringerstraße and other inputs in the Lisztstraße includes Haymarket (Heumarkt) since the opening three concert halls:

Schubert Hall with 366 seats
The new hall (with 400 seats) was not established until the general renovation of 1998 to 2002. The new hall was renamed at the start of the 2009/2010 season in Berio-Saal.

Inside stands in the foyer of the original model created in 1878 by Kaspar von Zumbusch Beethoven Monument, which is situated opposite the Concert Hall at the Beethoven place. At the staircase there is a relief homage to Emperor Franz Joseph (1913 ) by Edmund Hellmer . Furthermore, a bust of Franz Liszt by Max Klinger to mention in 1904.
The complex of the concert hall and the building is part of the K. K Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (now the University of Music and Dramatic Art). Adjoining rooms for academic teaching purposes this part of the building also contains the Academy theater with 521 seats, which is used as a secondary stage of the Burgtheater world premieres among other modern plays.
Great Hall and Organ
The Great Hall has a capacity of 1116 visitors (ground floor) and additional 361 balconies and boxes, and 388 in the gallery. The auditorium is 750 m2 and 170 m2 of the podium. In the 1960s the hall was optimized by Heinrich Keilholz.
The organ was built in 1913 in the Great Hall of the Rieger organ (Rieger-Orgel) (Jägerndorf, Silesia) built. The instrument is located on the end wall of the big room, but has no visible Prospectus. The organ is located behind a grid and is thus hidden from the visitors. The cone-chest-116 instrument has five registers on manual and pedal works and is the largest organ in Austria. The special features of the organ counts, firstly, that the four manual divisions are swellable. In addition, the organ comprises a (swellable ) remote work with separate pedal. Stylistically, the organ is "Alsatian Organ reform " aimed at the so-called ideal of where along the lines of major instruments of Aristide Cavaillé -Coll, the strong voices are divided into two manuals. The tracker action is electro-pneumatic. For the inauguration of the instrument Strauss had the " Festive Prelude " for organ and orchestra composed. In 1982 the instrument was restored.

Program
The concert hall is the main venue of the Vienna Symphony , the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and the Vienna Sound Forum. Since 1913 the Vienna Academy of Music has its permanent home of the Konzerthaus. In separate events at the Wiener Konzerthaus other international orchestras, soloists and chamber ensembles in addition to the Vienna Philharmonic regular guest.
