Lockheed Martin F-35A "Lightning II" assigned to the 33rd Fighter Wing sit on the flightline July 18, 2017, at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. The 33 FW and Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 211 from Yuma, Ariz., participated in the first combat exercise with Air Force F-35As and Marine Corps F-35Bs operating simultaneously during Red Flag 17-3. The large scale exercise, which was developed to provide pilots with critical experience in combat situations, enabled F-35 pilots to plan and train using the same tactics, techniques and procedures.

My wife and I visited Las Vegas to check out Red Flag 21-3, a big exercise for the USAF, Navy, and some foreign countries. It's a great experience watching so many warplanes coming and going. Las Vegas in August is HOT - as in over 100 degrees so we were sweltering. I still can't seem to get consistent tack sharp photos of the high speed takeoffs so I will keep practicing. Any advice is welcome.

I took these photos outside of Nellis AFB, Las Vegas, in early August 2021.

Conflict scenarios set into motion during Red Flag exercises afford some pilots the rare opportunity to drop live ordinance in a training environment. JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska (Aug. 6, 2020) - A U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor aircraft assigned to the 3rd Wing approaches for landing at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, Aug. 6, 2020, during Red Flag-Alaska 20-3. Red Flag-Alaska is a Pacific Air Forces-directed field training exercise where aircrews fly under simulated air combat conditions. This allows those involved to improve interoperability through the exchange of tactics, techniques and procedures. RF-A 20-3 was adapted to execute the training needed to maintain mission readiness and lethality while mitigating the potential spread of COVID-19.
