for my theme tree. I decorated it with hearts...
threading hearts in our dining room on our famous black table.
Tearing off one side of the paper on a piece of cardboard, I revealed the corrugation underneath & cut out the corrugation to paste a photograph on the cover. I lined the book with a photocopied, letterpressed piece of art. The signature is made of several different colored papers including different colors of lined paper and security printed envelopes. The book is held closed with a red colored ribbon and bound with matching red hemp binding thread. Final size, 4.75" x 5.75"
Going back to the golden age of DIY couture. Experimenting with stitches, materials and textures variety.
I'm being inspired by the amazing DIY styles that were passionately and almost secretely put together nearly ten years ago.
This very fascinating tank top is made with all upcycled fabric from my collection.
Like some other taylors and designers, I love fabrics and textiles. I collect them. I save the coolest fabric scraps from former projects I have made over time. Because they're beautiful, worthy and eco friendly!

To my great surprise, all three of the pieces sold during the exhibition; the first time I've sold work to someone that I don't know. This was the last of the three to sell - the couple who bought Parse and Cursive at the private view came back for this one towards the end of the run. I was the only artist to sell all my pieces, which was very flattering.
All three of the thread drawings are based on ideas around codes and lost languages - I wanted them to look like some sort of writing that you couldn't quite decode.

I lobbied to be part of the second MSU MOR IT Leaders Program Cohort with help from my supervisor. Being accepted into the program showed the confidence others had in my capabilities and potential, and I’m committed to put in the time, work, and reflection to make the most of this experience.
I’m seeing how different points in my leadership journey have shaped my perceptions now toward management and leadership. In the past I’ve been sort of a reluctant leader. MOR, my cohort, and my coaches have empowered me to step up, get over myself, and just do it.
I’m learning to be true to some of my introverted tendencies, but to find the balance to challenge myself in different ways and grow. I’m seeing my strengths more clearly: driving results, staying positive, listening, strategic thinking, thoughtfulness, thoroughness. I’m learning to trust myself, to lighten up, and to be kinder, to remember to acknowledge and celebrate successes.
I’m learning to be intentional and decisive, while accepting I will make mistakes sometimes. I’m learning to see in new ways, from the balcony and through different perspectives. I’m re-learning the value of reflection, of being quiet, of thinking, of planning, and then doing. I’m re-learning the value of relationship building, of finding commonalities, of connecting people and ideas. I’ve been blessed to connect with new colleagues, collaborators, coaches, friends.

Kalava (Sanskrit: कलावा) is the sacred Hindu thread. It is worn while performing Hindu rituals like 'Yajna' or Puja. It is tied by a priest on the wrists of all the people attending the prayer ceremony. Kalava is tied on right hand of males and unmarried females, and on left hand of married females. Sometimes it has small yellow parts in between the mostly red string. It sometimes has knots which are tied up while reciting Sanskrit mantras to invoke God and is worn to ward off evil from the person who wears this red thread.

Once I started doing the CD cover salvage books, I had a ton of options to choose from. This one was near the bottom of the pile so I decided to try a new binding on this one that I had never tried. It's still a long stitch bind but a different pattern than I had done before. The stations where the thread comes through the spine fell into one another and the thread ended up not being as clean and neat as I wanted but still, it gave me a cool effect that was unexpected. This book had tutti fruitti signatures, lots of different paper stocks hand cut together so each spread is unique. The final size of this book was 5 1/2" wide and 5" tall. It was over an inch at the spine. THis book had a crapload of pages for the size of the book.
Lure/Wave by Beili Lui, one of top 10 entries in ArtPrize 2010. Artist description: The ancient Chinese legend of the red thread tells that when children are born, invisible red threads connect them to the ones whom they are fated to be with. Over the years of their lives they come closer and eventually find each other, overcoming the distance between, and cultural and social divides. Inspired by this legend, the installation makes use of thousands of hand spiraled coils of red thread suspended from the ceiling of the gallery. A disk may be connected to another, as a “couple”, and each pair is made from a single thread. Every coil is pierced in the center by a sewing needle, which enables the suspension of the disks from the ceiling.

I used blue leather backed with card stock and lined with handmade silkscreened Japanese wave paper. I used a piece of chipboard for the spine. I wrapped each signature with pages from the Japanese newspaper Rafu Shimpo. The white pages are a high quality Hammermill bond paper with a slick writing/drawing surface. I also added faux headbands to give the book a more sophisticated look. I binded the signatures to the book using red colored hemp thread using a wrapped long stitch bind. The cover is a soft cover allowing it to be comfortably stuffed into pockets, purses and bags of all sorts making this perfect for the writer or artist on the go. The size of the book is 4.5" W x 5.75" H with 128 white pages or 256 white surfaces to write or draw on.

I salvaged the items I used to make this cover from the jazz landmark A Love Supreme CD by John Coltrane. I bound the signatures to the cover using a long stitch bind and colored hemp binding thread in a design I created for the spine. The signatures consist of blue, red, yellow and white graph paper and lined paper and finished with sheets of tracing paper. The book measures 5 5/8" wide and just under 5" tall and is an inch wide at the spine. This book has 128 pages with 256 surfaces to write/draw/whatever on.

This book was made using beer mats I picked up from a German pub in Fort Lauderdale called The Old Heidelberg. The translation on the front according to my translation widget is "The family is the most important in lives. Drink brother shank." Not sure what shank means but the first part is nice.
I used white tape and book board to create the spine and colored hemp thread for the binding. The pages are made up of white graph paper, tracing paper, yellow and blue lined paper, hot pink and white bond paper and envelopes with security printing on one side. The book measures 3 3/8" x 3 3/8". The pages are 3 1/4" x 3 1/4". The spine is an inch wide.
