Does the right to bear arms trump the right to life? Please forgive me my American friends but many of us in other parts of the world think it is time for you to revisit your 2nd amendment and to implement rational gun control legislation. I have been told that in countries that have strict gun control laws, e.g., Britain, Germany, Canada, Japan and many others that the incidence of death by handgun in all cases last year was less than 60 deaths in each of these countries (less than 10 in Great Britain). In the United States last year there were in excess of 10,000 deaths by handgun ... even if these numbers are somehow overstated, represented in some biased or less than fair way, the sheer enormity of the difference in the raw data speaks for itself.

I acknowledge that acts of atrocity will continue to be committed by mentally ill individuals using guns regardless of what legislation is enacted in any given country but I also think it would be rational and justifiable to assume that a greater measure of gun control would make it a better and safer world for our children.

Perhaps you might make the case that Flickr is not the place to express personal perspectives on difficult global issues but I would disagree. Someone once said that "silence equals agreement" and after hearing of the horror of what happened in that school I find it is impossible to remain silent. I think it is legitimate to use any forum available to us if it might make a positive difference.

Thanks to Kalreece.

There are two strobes here. A canon 540ez and a Canon 430ex. Both are camera right and diffused with tracing paper (both 1/4 power) and incidental in nature. Some daylight window right.

I shot this outside the room on the landing to get Kalreece in frame.

Exposures: 3 x wardrobe

3 x right leg

3 x left leg

1 x phone (centre torso)

1 x phone right

1 x further right phone

Multi exposures exported from LR using LR enfuse and then combined in PS.

Re-imported into LR with small selective dodging and burning, and finally a small amount of split toning.

Thanks to Kimi Haslam (pictured) and Tom Avern for their assistance with this shoot.

The preservation and celebration of video store ephemera and culture continue, Tapeheads!"

This may (or may not) be a political statement.

This sort of sums up my day. Waiting for a piece of paper that I can see, that's within reach, which I should be having in my hands, but, well.

I shudder as I begin to wonder, realistically, at how many other hundreds of people have been in my shoes (sore as they are today) and watched their days be squashed under that oh-so-pretty paperweight.

Single shot from the 24 hours photobooth session

Last year, some kids stole a bunch of stuff from my friend's classroom, including this nice (brand new at the time) white iMac. There were immediately caught and prosecuted. Now, over a year later, the iMac is finally returned--it's covered in black fingerprint dust, and is almost outdated. Yay for justice.

The Turf Wars Movie, London, 2010

From the final scene of the movie, filmed in Shoreditch, London.

Sir Pranksky is currently checking our description...to be released as soon as the director has cleared it....(he's a bit paranoid about giving away too much of the plot before release), so in the meantime here is a little technical information that will provide you with a basic insight:

This scene features The Art Police's latest technology - the 'Decurator' (Rapid Deployment CCTV System). It's a fully mobile art-hardened vehicle, fitted with a robot CCTV system that automatically seeks out pieces, before they have been completed.

Where the situation demands, the vehicle's on-board 'battlefield' computer can deploy heuristic software, that allows pieces to be de-curated rapidly and without any damage to an artist's or writer's reputation. In this scene the 'Decurator' determines that the best method for disarming a persistent decorator, discovered in progess in Shoreditch - behind heavy camouflage, is by offering the crew a very large wad of money (financed by the Hoxton Art Galleries' Association).

System consists of:

Camera module:

Mic1-400 camera

IP 68, high resistance to art and graffiti

Camera Sony FCB - Ex 480 BP-EX-view HAD CCD high resolution ¼″ CCD DSP color/monochrome camera module. 460 lines 0.7 colour lux 50 FPS, 0.05 lux color 3 FPS, < 0.01 lux B&W Lens F1.4 (4.1 – 73.8 mm), 18x optical zoom, 12 x digital zoom

User Controls IR. Cut filter in/out. Frame integration level (ANPR capability). Backlight compensation. Auto/manual focus. Auto/manual iris. Zoom. Variable speed pan and tilt. Video recording facility

Pan & Tilt Pan - continuous, tilt 290°

Maximum speed up to 90° per second in both

pan and tilt (depends on zoom level). Minimum speed 0.75° per second. No presets

Weight & dimensions (approx)

Deployment Unit including actuator HxWxL:

(4m x 1.5m x 2m)

Weight approx 15 metric tonnes

Poles Min. diameter rounds 1m, max.

diameter rounds .5m

Min. diameter octagonal 1m across flats,

max. octagonal .55m across flats

Video & telemetry options

Options 5.8 GHz multi-channel radio link

GPRS/3G via DVR - Wi-Fi

Battery type & operation time

Camera Head Lead acid up to 20 hrs., Lithium-ion up to 48 hrs.

Negotiation module - manufactured by Siemens - fully automatic device:

The software in this module can identify not only art and graffiti but also the crews behind it, by calculating over one million differential equations per second. Thanks to the collective capacity of this module, it's artificial brain even recognizes evolving street art styles. With 1,000 neurons on it's main chip, the Decurator negotiation module can identify art in real time. Following an initial training phase, the module can react flexibly to a variety of street art scenarios.

Automatic water canon (for emergency use only):

Main Water Tank Capacity - 2,000 Gallons (7,570L)

Water / Dye Canon Torrent - Located at front of vehicle

250Lb. (946L) Water Pressure with 600 Gallons (2,645 L) Per Minute Capacity

Separate 50 Gallon (189L) Tank Contains Semi Permanent Dye Compound

Dye Injected Into Water Stream Dye Compound used for easy identification and arrest of Art and Graffiti Suspects

Optional 50 Gallon (189L. - Tank with Oleoresin Capsicum - Pepper Gas

Complete Electronic Control Panel Gauges & Separate Joy Stick System

Control Panel Monitoring Supply of Water, Pepper Gas, Compound Dye, and Other Optional Deterrent Agents

High Intensity Halogen Light Module, Siren, and Bluetooth auto-voice enabled P/A (Public Address) System, with 'Artspeak' translation engine.

I have known Michael Carter for quite awhile and we have shared many adventures together. He is known to be one of the last true beatniks living in the East Village. He is a writer, poet and a Zen beer master. To give an example beer mysticism: A Zen beer master, a Taoist beer master and Michael Carter walk in to a bar. The bartender comes over and asks what they will have, the the Zen beer master says: 'that which can be called beer is not the true beer...'the Taoist beer master stares at the bowl of peanuts, after a while he ceases to see the peanuts; he no longer sees the bowl, then after another while he once again sees the peanuts and bowl as before... finally Michael Carter opening his third eye looks over at the others and says: 'I'll have what they're having...'

Michael is an East Village icon of sorts or sorted. Michael has produced thousands of art events in New York. He produced, created and participated in wacky art happenings, readings, musical performances and video presentations. He has appeared as his alter ego "Vindaloo" creating artistic ruckus and mayhem in his path. He is more known for being a poet giving fiery readings in cafes and clubs. He was also the editor and publisher of Redtape literary magazine. The East Village magazine communicated innovative artistic ideas with the collaboration of writers, artists and visual artists. Redtape featured comics, fiction, poetry, graphic art, and photography. It also provided a venue for both established and emerging artists and writers of the downtown New York scene. It was published between the years 1980 to 1992 and had a strong impact on the New York downtown scene. Michael would have monthly Redtape events with readings, art shows and music.

Michael formed a band in the 80's/90's with Julius Klein called Vacuum Bag. They were known for their wild shows and the unexpected behaviour of the singer, Michael Carter. Michael would often lose himself with emotion, go in a trance and jump from table to table, standing on bars half naked screaming. Unfortunately Vacuum Bag does not exist anymore, but you can still catch Michael Carter reading his poems in a dark bar or cafe. He really is the last Beatnik and one hell of a beer mystic. He is a full pledged member of the writer's beer mystic group The Unbearables. Michael is a featured writer in their various publications such as"Between C & D" and "Peau Sensible". Michael is the author of a book of poems called, "Broken Noses and Metempsychosis".

Michael Carter sometimes goes into a trance while reading and has visions. He is a strongly influenced by existentialism. He must have been channeling prophecy with the following, from his 1982 poem: “terror is released in lower manhattan/and the terrorists neither carry guns/nor subvert the state/but simply buy it off with promises."

The best way to close is to read one of Michael's poems. It speaks for itself.

La Mairie '89

Nearly full moon, black Jewish star

Lofted above inscrutable, cabalic hebrew

Same street where only fifty years ago

Hitler's dicks rounded up the usual suspects

And dispatched them to eternity

While Cocteau behind shuttered doors

Bewailed bold Eurydice's plight

And Picasso played socialist apostle

Both of 'em prancing bacchanals

Upon these high gates which once boasted

The skewered heads of nobility

Oui, in Paris this year they celebrate the guillotine

Doubtless the apex of Western Civ...

There's a slight slope to these streets

How the blood must run easily

Into the gutters

Like fresh spring rain

Also called "pink tape".

Is removing these old Boat Sheds in the best interest of progress? I pay my bloody taxes, so why can't we get some Public Servants that have an ounce of brains between them. Instead we get over zealous bloody morons that couldn't get a job in the private sector even if they were the only candidate. Inadequate Desk Jockey's, hell bent on protecting morons from themselves. Why? To justify their existence.

When the hell will we return to a society where individuals have to take responsibility for their own actions. Can I suggest that the Dept. of Transport Desk Jockey's be redeployed onto a project focusing on developing a pill that will protect idiots from themselves. In the meantime, leave our Icons alone!

The Boat Sheds should've stayed. Anyone that wants to risk climbing over rocks to get to them & injures themselves in the process. Throw them on the southern side of the rocky outcrop & let them perish from exposure, thus avoid handing out more tax payers money to some victim of crime stupidity.

PS If you need a trial group to test the pills? Stand up & look over top of your cubicle, you'll find a perfectly suitable candidate!

Phew, that felt good. I'm all invigorated now!

My pair of Sketchers have worn out, and one of them got torn yesterday. :( One of the best casuals I have worn.

Sketchers aren't available in my country, and I am craving for a pair of Diesel shoes, to be bought when and if I travel to the US anytime soon.

Meanwhile, I have bought this pair of Red Tape casuals. They look good, and are not too expensive. Perfect for work!
