#74 in my 100 x challenge - Photos from my travels

This sign was on a fence around a pond at The Chi Lin Nunnery in Hong Kong. I liked the way the red tape gave it a natural selective colour.

I am going to be away again for a few days with no internet access. So I will get behind with commenting again...just when I'd started to catch up! HFF and have a great weekend.

Macro Mondays theme: Tape

Thanks to everyone who took the time to view, comment, and fave my photo. It’s really appreciated. 😊

ANDATA E RITORNO

ROUNDTRIP

For the "Macro Mondays" theme, a photo must be presented that best represents "A Ribbon" and for my usual habit of presenting a barely original work, I spent the week racking my brains discovering that the best solution is the simplest one . Here then is this red ribbon on a black background, presented as it is !!!!

Pro-life Day of Silent Solidarity (october 18, 2011)

Every day in the United States of America over 4,000 American

citizens are silenced against their wills. They have their voices

permanently silenced and they never get the opportunity to speak on behalf

of themselves. Today we stand in silent solidarity with those who have been

silenced. Today we are silent, but by doing this we are being a voice for the

one-third of our generation that will never have a voice. These victims are

not only being silenced; they are being killed. The victims we stand on

behalf of are not going to be mentioned on the news. The victims we stand

on behalf of will not have a funeral. The victims we stand on behalf of were

ripped from the safety and warmth of their mothers’ wombs. The victims we

stand on behalf of were not blobs of tissue, but beautiful human persons,

with hearts that beat, brains that gave out brain waves, and a soul. These

are the victims of the abortion holocaust. Every day over 4,000 babies

have their lives ended in the name of choice. Since January 22, 1973, over

46 million babies have died. The time is now to stand on behalf of

these innocent victims.

A Man Occupying A Taped Up Seat is Moved On as a Council Official Re-Tapes It. All the South Bank Seating Has Been Symbolically Taped Up Overnight on Good Friday.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. I've given you three from my world. At the end of the day I feel like I've used many more than that to try and explain the United States Tax Code and business regulations to my clients. Way too much government interference hinders rather than helps economic growth........ I think Pogo was right "We have met the enemy and he is us".

Red Tape, awesome trail in Kapiti close to Paraparamu. A few narrow bits near the start with a decent drop to the side.

Gets flowy and fast after a bit of this.

Yuki poses with her homage to the famous artwork, Comedian, by Maurizio Cattelan. Yuki points out that her use of red tape is a statement. She declined to say what that statement is. Yuki did state that her use of a plastic banana was intentional to make her artwork more “forever”.

Red tape to be exact, probably needs no explanation.

I'm going through my old photos, trying to move them from my personal site to Flickr. Unfortunately I think I'm also going to have to reupload a lot of them, because they're utterly artefact ridden.

Anyway, here's a photo which somehow never made it up anyway.

The council have cordoned off these exercise machines (newly installed last year). I don't think the red and white tape will keep many folk away. A token gesture.

Does the right to bear arms trump the right to life? Please forgive me my American friends but many of us in other parts of the world think it is time for you to revisit your 2nd amendment and to implement rational gun control legislation. I have been told that in countries that have strict gun control laws, e.g., Britain, Germany, Canada, Japan and many others that the incidence of death by handgun in all cases last year was less than 60 deaths in each of these countries (less than 10 in Great Britain). In the United States last year there were in excess of 10,000 deaths by handgun ... even if these numbers are somehow overstated, represented in some biased or less than fair way, the sheer enormity of the difference in the raw data speaks for itself.

I acknowledge that acts of atrocity will continue to be committed by mentally ill individuals using guns regardless of what legislation is enacted in any given country but I also think it would be rational and justifiable to assume that a greater measure of gun control would make it a better and safer world for our children.

Perhaps you might make the case that Flickr is not the place to express personal perspectives on difficult global issues but I would disagree. Someone once said that "silence equals agreement" and after hearing of the horror of what happened in that school I find it is impossible to remain silent. I think it is legitimate to use any forum available to us if it might make a positive difference.
