Always exciting to see a Red Tailed Hawk in my area. We have Red Shouldered Hawks galore, but it is unusual to see a Red Tailed. I was fortunate to see a breeding pair (missed photographing the "act") the other day, Just love how the inflight shots show off their namesake
This Red-tailed Hawk hangs around my neighbourhood and he knows me very well. In fact he even knows my car very well, 'cause every time I see him and stop the car to take a photo, he takes off. Nyah, Nyah...he seems to be saying as he flies far away from me!
Greenwich, CT... Thanks so much for any comments. I truly appreciate all the supportive feedback I get here!
Obliging immature Red-Tailed Hawk posed for me in a tree not far from the road, then flew to a similarly close tree with different lighting angle. Very kind of it, especially since I'm still learning how to hold that new camera steady at higher zooms. (Yes, they are very commonly found but they’re still gorgeous.)

I finally caught up with the 2-year-old female today. She was lazily chasing squirrels and even dive-bombed a great blue heron, seemingly for the sheer fun of it.
An adult Red-Tailed Hawk is kind enough to help me learn to use my new camera to photograph birds circling overhead. NOTE: I need a lot more work on this. Because I was shooting up into the sky on a sunny day, I had to do a lot of lightening on this image in order to show the hawk accurately. And I was having problems following the bird at high zoom, which is why there is not a lot of resolution here, it's a huge crop.
Because all the winter birds are flocking to the feeders, we have a couple Red Tailed Hawks who are also coming closer, but not for the seeds -- they are predators and prey on the smaller birds, especially since the field mice have gone underground.
I wished I can move to other side, but I were afraid that it will fly away so that something is better than nothing. So I just stay there, and keep take pictures until it finished the meal.
Took a while to get this one to look like I wanted it to. Had to fight harsh lights and dark shadows, but I think I finally got it looking decent.
