Every day on my drive to work, I come to a T intersection facing this fire department. The letters are brick red, of course, and I just really like the font, the simplicity of the red letters against the worn brick. Today I planned to get to work early and then parked my car so I could get some pictures for sixty-four colors. And also because the building is fenced off now, which in this town very frequently means it won't be much longer for this world.

There is always a tendency to look at graffiti with distaste and wonder why people would spend so much time and effort to deface things that have been made for the benefit of all people. But occasionally a piece if graffiti can be inspirational and positive in it's message. I believe that this is such a piece. I found it in the tunnel at Oneonta Gorge this afternoon. As if to prove the point of the message, about an hour latter driving on Palmer Road, about half a mile from the Old Columbia River Highway I saw my first ever wild Black Bear. Nothing was going to ruin my day after that sighting. He crossed the road less than a 100 feet in front of my car. A real WOW moment for me. Just hoping now that I read all the graffiti to make sure that there is nothing there which can be perceived as offensive.

Red Letter is from Doylestown, Ohio. With their superb talent, they won last nights Battle of the Bands in Cuyahoga Falls. I honestly believe these guys could hit billboards and will no have problem getting a record deal soon.
