The recreation hall of Gartloch Hospital is one of the most stunning sights I have seen on my explores. The hall has to be seen in person to fully appreciate how magnificent it is.

I wouldn't normally post a colour version as the original was a B&W shot, but I really liked this in colour ... www.flickr.com/photos/balakovsetup/3016239020/

Lake Berryessa is the largest lake in Napa County, California. This reservoir is formed by the Monticello Dam, which provides water and hydroelectricity to the North Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area.Prior to its inundation, the valley was an agricultural region, whose soils were considered among the finest in the country. The main town in the valley, Monticello, was abandoned in order to construct the reservoir. This abandonment was chronicled by the photographers Dorothea Lange and Pirkle Jones in their book Death of a Valley.

The 'Stadtwald' is a cultivated forest area in the middle of the city of Krefeld. It is located in the district Bockum and covers an area of 120 ha. In the Krefeld city forest there is a very large meadow with football goals, a children's playground, a large pond with a pedal boat rental and walking paths. Within the Krefeld city forest there is also one of the most beautiful German racecourses, a golf course, a hockey court and tennis courts. The 'Stadtwaldhaus' with one of the largest beer gardens outside Bavaria offers outdoor space for about 3,000 people.

The existence of the recreation area is due to the Krefeld silk baron Wilhelm Deuß. In 1897, Wilhelm Deuß donated the area of the city forest (at that time only 35 hectares) to the city of Krefeld.

In a small temple at the pond (Deuß temple) opposite the 'Stadtwaldhaus' a plaque commemorates this good deed.

Signalbox diagram from French Drove on the GN/GE Joint Line prior to closure in the early 1980s.

I have recreated this diagram based on photos of the diagram inside the box. The diagram is accurate with the exception of the dimensions of the signals to the level crossing where I have had to make some assumptions and also the values on the gradient diagram.

With its commanding view of Haro Strait and the Canadian Gulf Islands, Turn Point offers wonderful opportunities for photographers and visitors who appreciate nature and history. Oh, the Canadian and Olympic Mountains are also nearby and seen from this area of the San Juan Islands National Monument.

The Turn Point Light Station, built in 1893, stands on the western most end of Stuart Island, providing light and reference to mariners of the Salish Sea. Turn Point is one of the best places on BLM-managed lands to see orca whales. Recreational activities include hiking, camping, boating, sea kayaking, watching wildlife, and viewing wildflowers.

Know Before You Go: The Turn Point site is open YEAR ROUND and a small interpretive museum operated by the Turn Point Lighthouse Preservation Society is open daily from July to September. Turn Point is only accessible by water craft. Most visitors arrive via sea kayak or by private boats. There are no fees.

The Roche Harbor Resort boat ramp, located on San Juan Island is the nearest launch site. Local launch fees apply. Other private marinas are located throughout the San Juan Islands.

On Oct. 7, 2014, San Juan County became the first in the U.S. designated as a voluntary “Leave No Trace” area. Please help and practice LNT.

WWI trench recreation at the Port Moody Museum.

This is an area south of Great Falls where the Missouri River winds through a canyon. Incredible beautiful...wish I would of had time to photograph the canyon but we were late for Christmas dinner at my parents. So a few quick shots is all I got...and not the shots I wanted either! lol...but it's all good! There will be other times...family was my goal this trip. Lots of good fishing and rafting through this area...a real treat for me!! :) The rock formations are so cool over this way too...:)
