"Difficult roads lead to beautiful destinations"
In my recovery
I'm a soldier at war
I have broken down walls
I defined, I designed
My recovery
In the sound of the sea
In the oceans of me
I defined, I designed

Much to my amazement, he recovered from this position and continued riding the wave. I was not shooting 10 frames per second so I offer no proof. One day, I should take up videography, however, the truism about "old dog and new tricks" comes immediately to mind. I'm still trying to master still photography; a forever task if ever there was one.

The trail zig zags down the steep slope to the bridge over Oneonta Creek in the middle of this image. The forest is showing signs of recovery after the Eagle Creek Fire started by a 15 year old playing with smoke bombs on 9/2/2017. The fire burned almost 49 thousand acres of forest in the Columbia River Gorge area. The fire burned extremely hot due to drought and years of fire suppression and thus even trees which often can survive fire burned to death. $36.6 million in restitution was ordered along with almost 2,000 hours of community service. The boy has been complying with the terms of his sentence but will doubtless never pay off the restitution. Meanwhile the forest is starting to regenerate. The yellow leaves are from sprouts from the roots of dead maple and oak trees. Here and there are a few evergreen survivors. Some day this will be a forest again.
A single daisy recovering after a great storm at the end of summer. It is surprising that with the fragility of these flowers they are able to withstand that and recover once the sun returns.

I've seen a good few of these in a well known Hertfordshire breakers yard, so it was really nice to see a complete one in good hands on show at Brough as part of the 2023 Kirkby Stephen Easter Rally.

This Cardinal hit our slider during the storm,. He knocked himself out, and I really didn't think he was going to make it. With warmth and quiet time, however, he was able to regain his strength and senses to get back on the field same day! Concussion protocol is a bit more lenient for birds than athletes!!

recovery... v is recovering... she really doesn't do well after a general anaesthetic... she's finally holding down solid food... and she took her first steps this afternoon... the doc is keeping v's catheter in over night since she is still pretty unsteady... the standard plan is for a release from the hospital after 2 nights... meaning tomorrow... we might be running a bit slow... although v really perked up after ann brought the kids up to visit... ant and katie held her hands... really sweet... they miss her...
tonight i'll probably sleep at home and get back here around 6am... looks like v will sleep through the night... she's snoozing right now... like an angel...
Our smallest bird in the UK. This one bumped into the living room window, it was such a tiny little bump but it was laying on the ground and I can't just leave them there so I gave it a cuddle and it was off in no time :)
This area is plagued by spring brush fires started by the sparks from the train that passes nearby. The area tries to recover from the fires, but every few years it happens again…a worry for the home owners in the vicinity.
After severe freezes and significant damage last Winter, the Camellia is making a comeback with new flower buds for the coming season.
This photo comes with a sweet story. These men stopped me to see if would take their picture. They shared with me they are both in recovery from substance use, and wanted to share their story with the world. I hope it inspires!

This bougainvillea was doing really well, then it lost all its leaves. So I pruned it, and it has managed to flower again.

Notice the white strings tied to her wrists? These are supposed to shield off bad spirits and bring health. They are most often worn when someone is sick to help them recover.
Since Cryptid and the Wolves dragged me back to a med unit, I had been laying in bed, recovering. Several more attempts had been made on my life. The CO insisted that a guard be posted at the entrance of the med tent, but I didn't trust my life to some GI. I had begun sleeping with a knife under my pillow, and after more gas attacks, an oxygen tank. After the medics bandaged me up, I donned my armor once again. That too, I had begun sleeping in. I trusted no one, and was always wary. The flashbacks had stopped, possibly due to the intense stress I was under. Hopefully, it stayed that way. Man, I can't wait to get out in the field again, miles away from everything except those I trust. Anything would be better than this living hell I was in. Wait. What was that? There was a noise outside.
A masked face peered around the corner; I threw one of my knives. The face ducked back at the last second, as the knife ripped a hole in the far side of the tent. "Come on and finish it, you bastard!" i yelled, hatred and fury dripping from my voice. I heard the sound of rapidly retreating footsteps. Thus it went, night after night. I hardly slept anymore, with sounds from the camp waking me up, heart pounding. I could not live like this for long...
Several weeks later...
Finally, I was back in action. After several days of attacks, a trio of old Silent Wolves veterans stood vigil over me, switching off every few hours. I then had a chance to rest, feeling safe. The attacker didn't show up, given the presence of the armed men. And it paid off. Now, I was back on my feet , and preparing my belongings to leave the infirmary. I still had an ugly scar where the bullet penetrated, and the wound twinged every now and again. But I would be all right. I strapped on my armor, and threw on my pack. I gave it a quick, weight-settling jostle, and began to head out of the door. And then, I saw a grenade, standard USDF issue, minus the pin, roll towards my feet...
