IF WE WANT TO SAVE THE EURO WE HAVE TO REBUILD ITS FOUNDATIONS.. .Micheál Martin TD, Leader of Fianna Fáil..Seminar on ?Where now for EMU?..ELDR Congress, Saturday 10th November 2012..Pictured at the Seminar on ?Where now for EMU?. ELDR Congress, Saturday 10th November 2012.. .Micheál Martin TD, Leader of Fianna Fáil..Senator Jean Arthuis, Vice President of Union of Democrats and Independentsin Charge of European Affairs...One of the many positive features of this Congress has been how everyone has been willing to be direct in their contributions. If ever there was a topic which needed people to push aside the formalities and speak directly it is the future of Economic and Monetary Union.. .In 1989 Jacques Delors set out a roadmap for the creation of the Euro and it took only three years before the then member states signed the Maastricht Treaty. It was a project which carried with it the hopes and expectations of the continent. Today confidence in it has collapsed and its foundations are far from secure.. .The fact is that we cannot today be sure that the Euro will survive this crisis intact. We have a moment of relative peace in the crisis, but it is nonetheless a severe crisis which will do immense further damage unless extra action is taken.. .As was said yesterday by Guy Verhofstadt, the Eurozone's net debt position should be entirely manageable in the context of the situation in the rest of the world. Yet it costs dramatically more for Euro countries to secure funding and sovereign debt markets are deeply sceptical of Europe.. .This hasn't happened by accident, it has happened because the Eurozone and elsewhere is that our currency has fundamental design flaws. Even Jacques Delors has acknowledged this.. .As it is currently structured the Economic and Monetary Union cannot be a zone of stability and growth. It doesn't matter how often we recommit ourselves to respecting its rules, unless those rules change then the fundamental dynamics behind this crisi

The Red Mass was celebrated by Most Rev. David Walkowiak, bishop of Grand Rapids, on Sunday, Sept. 29 at the Cathedral of Saint Andrew. Members of the Catholic Lawyers Association of West Michigan, diocesan canon lawyers and local judges were in attendance.
Celebrated annually in the Catholic Church, the Red Mass is an opportunity for members of the legal profession to gather in prayer to recommit to the highest principles of their profession and prayerfully request guidance and strength for all who seek justice. During Mass the lawyers renewed the Lawyer’s Oath. (Photography by Dave Taylor)
after 105 days of not smoking, I foolishly allowed myself to be tempted into having a cigar, which started a month long downward spiral of smoking (and depression) for me. By the end of March, I was smoking 2 packs a day. I knew that I would quit again, but it took a lot of praying and self reflection - I decided to document the process here with this series, so that I can remember how HARD it is to win back the control, and start over - which I now have done. I am currently on day 12 of no smoking. I did not fully realize what a POWERFUL substance nicotine really is, ...or how much control it has over me. I will only ever be able to have control over hot having the first cigarette... after just a few puffs, the nicotine gains full control of my brain.

Celebrated every year on 1st December, the World AIDS Day (WAD) is the moment of the year where millions of people come together across the globe to commemorate people who lost their lives to HIV, applaud progress made in responding to the epidemic and recommit to ending the epidemic. This year, The World AIDS Campaign's Global Steering Committee has selected the theme, “Hands up for HIV Prevention,” for 2016 WAD. This annual theme is about reducing new HIV infections, discrimination and AIDS related deaths to zero through equal access to HIV prevention, testing, treatment and care. The 2016 WAD is celebrated under the theme of “Get up all against HIV/AIDS - Still there”.
The theme was celebrated with Nkombo Island community members and youth.
The objective of the campaign were:
Empowering youth, with a focus on girls and young women, to prevent unwanted and early pregnancy, as one of the causes of new HIV infections.
To advocate for the availability of youth friendly services at the island.
To empower the community in general on prevention of HIV new infections, Gender Based Violence (GBV) and human trafficking.

Happy New Year, flickr. I wasn't going to recommit myself to a new photo project until I saw Jenn's brilliant take on it. This coming year is going to be a hard one, and I can't commit to taking a picture every day. Fortunately though, on the days when I do take pictures I take a LOT of them so I'm usually working with a huge backlog. At any rate, I'd like to give a Jenn-style YIP a try - posting a picture every day, not necessarily taken that day, with at least one a week being of me (i.e. a 52). I promise they will be from recent history, no digging up old garbage. If I have nothing I'll just take a new garbage picture. (kidding. mostly.) The best part about this is that it allows me to include more film shots like this one - given time for developing, scanning, etc.
I took this one last night on my canon ae-1 with a 50mm f/1.8 lens. I scanned in the negative and did do some color editing, in addition to cleaning up dust.
So there you have it. Happy New Year to you all, and I hope to see everyone around a lot more that I'll be here on a regular basis.

All birds and all things wild are under threat, whether declared so, or not. Wild places for bird species to thrive is being increasingly encroached upon by development, pollution, human overpopulation and more. If the human species does not curb its appetite, there will soon be nothing left for the birds. They will exist no more. However, if we recommit ourselves to a passionate love affair with the wild, we may have a chance to declare in our local communities, through things like the community rights movement, that birds, water, land, trees, other species and more have rights, not just humans - and do what we can to give them back their rights, as the clock ticks. Wishing for a miracle never hurts, either. In the meantime, let yourself be enchanted - and enchant right back. May the birds leap from our photos into your heart, awakened by a beauty that is not superficial, but explodes from deep within the cosmos.

This year, UNICEF and its media partners are highlighting the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child on World Children’s Day, 20th November 2019. The media takeover by children helps to give children a voice and become champions of their own rights through their full participation and engagement. The media takeover will serve as a platform to raise awareness on children’s issues and reinforce that children’s voices must resonate in the decision-making process of all duty bearers of their issues. It is also an opportunity to recommit in making the promise of the Convention on the Rights of Children a reality for every child in Ethiopia. UNICEFEthiopia/2019/Tesfaye
