Today was the last day of vacation -- it's back to work tomorrow. GROAN! Fortunately, it was a pretty solid Sunday. Pookie's trainer offered her a free team training session for her birthday, so we took her up on it and enjoyed a surprisingly fun and energizing hour of ass-kicking and medicine ball tossing. Schnookie whipped up some more canning excellence. Then much TNG was enjoyed while Pookie grappled with what project to work on after finishing the binding on two quilts. Because it was Sunday, that meant pizza and wine! WOOO!!!

Sure, going back to work sucks, but at least it's only about 6 weeks until our next week off. Between now and then we have a lot of Doing on the docket. This morning we agreed to recommit to a Doing attitude, since we've both been pretty lazy all summer. Doers Who Do More Do four concerts in the next six weeks, and biking trips with friends, and pressing apple cider, and whatever other fun opportunities present themselves!

Across the range of diverse experiences and traditions that have been written into our Nation's story, family has remained a steadfast and common foundation. Every day, families offer comfort and support to one another with enduring and unconditional love and they contribute to their communities and our country. During National Family Week, we uplift and honor the families that give so much to forge a brighter future for themselves and for America.... As we reminisce on warm memories and share in the joy and love family can provide, let us also pledge to lift up our loved ones and recommit to the family bonds that have strengthened the fabric of our Nation. ~Barack Obama, 2015 November 23rd, quoted from The White House Office of the Press Secretary

7{Fifty Two} Withdrawn

I made a decision last summer to reduce the distractions in my life until I get my life, work, business and finances sorted out. The main things I decided to step away from for a while were golf, snowboarding and dating. The first two were just becoming too much of a draw on my bank account, and the third... well it just wouldn't be fair for her. I don't have a lot of free time that I could commit to having a relationship. I just have major priorities that need to come first if I am ever going to make something of myself. You could consider me a workaholic, but there is an end game in motion, it won't be like this forever. I need to be doing certain things for the next year to get my life back on track and financially stable.

A month ago, I decided I could add one more thing to my plate. It won't spill over! Ha!! What the hell was I thinking?! I thought I could balance my heavy work load and a relationship if I told her upfront just how busy I was and what I was working towards and I needed someone who could either help me to my goals, or support what I was doing. I thought I found that person. What I ended up doing was stressing myself out even more and exhausting all my energy because I wanted to spend time with her and I wouldn't cut back my work, I would just cut back my sleep. I ended up just hurting her. I couldn't keep pretending that I could give her the kind of relationship that she deserved, the kind of life that she deserved.

I should have just stayed off in my little corner, kept my head down and stayed focused on what I needed to do. But I took a chance, and as much as I got hurt, it kills me to know how much I hurt her. Why am writing all this down? I don't know. Do I expect sympathy? HELL NO! I don't deserve it. This isn't meant to be a fishing expedition trying to make people feel sorry for me. I just needed to write it all down. I need to recommit to my goals, stay focused and withdraw from all the "fun" things in life. I know it isn't forever. I know that there is a reason everything that I have done or has happened to me is for a reason. I just want her to know that I am sorry.

All birds and all things wild are under threat, whether declared so, or not. Wild places for bird species to thrive is being increasingly encroached upon by development, pollution, human overpopulation and more. If the human species does not curb its appetite, there will soon be nothing left for the birds. They will exist no more. However, if we recommit ourselves to a passionate love affair with the wild, we may have a chance to declare in our local communities, through things like the community rights movement, that birds, water, land, trees, other species and more have rights, not just humans - and do what we can to give them back their rights, as the clock ticks. Wishing for a miracle never hurts, either. In the meantime, let yourself be enchanted - and enchant right back. May the birds leap from our photos into your heart, awakened by a beauty that is not superficial, but explodes from deep within the cosmos.

Celebrated every year on 1st December, the World AIDS Day (WAD) is the moment of the year where millions of people come together across the globe to commemorate people who lost their lives to HIV, applaud progress made in responding to the epidemic and recommit to ending the epidemic. This year, The World AIDS Campaign's Global Steering Committee has selected the theme, “Hands up for HIV Prevention,” for 2016 WAD. This annual theme is about reducing new HIV infections, discrimination and AIDS related deaths to zero through equal access to HIV prevention, testing, treatment and care. The 2016 WAD is celebrated under the theme of “Get up all against HIV/AIDS - Still there”.

The theme was celebrated with Nkombo Island community members and youth.

The objective of the campaign were:

Empowering youth, with a focus on girls and young women, to prevent unwanted and early pregnancy, as one of the causes of new HIV infections.

To advocate for the availability of youth friendly services at the island.

To empower the community in general on prevention of HIV new infections, Gender Based Violence (GBV) and human trafficking.
