I went looking for houses with towers (or at least turrets) in Folkestone, reasoning that a victorian seaside resort should have a plentiful supply.

Description: The photo was taken at night with an atmosphere of people wearing bright color tee shirts. The reasoning behind this photo was for the triangular shapes that I noticed. The way the person's legs were shaped in the photo stood out and it was clear that it had a triangular shape. The way the person was positioned described the type of photo it was. It shows the different shapes and that the legs make. What stood out was the color in this photo. The photo was made to be extremely colorful because of the type of environment this was casted in. The shirt makes the photo look alive. The camera was on flash, it could also make the shirt look a lot brighter than it originally was.

I chose to edit this photograph in Lightroom4 for my final portfolio. In this photo I added more contrast to this photo to make it look brighter; also I changed the hue colors to make the shirt look brighter.

Some minds are closed, locked and beyond reasoning.

They will forever be stuck in that little box, devoid of change, creativity and a multitude of possibilities.

They are locked.

The intention of this course series seeks to provide an insight into classical Aristotelian logic in order to strengthen critical reasoning/rhetoric skills amongst the activist community. This course allowed for individuals to better represent themselves and the struggles they support in interviews, and will better allow for participants to hold-their-own in media interviews and in conversation amongst detractors from causes actively supported by Peace House/Affiliates.

Each course will be structured into a two-hour block containing two parts: theory and application. The first hour will contain teachings from varying works of antiquity, from Aristotle's Logic to the Socratic dialogues and orations from Cicero & other distinguished rhetoricians. From here, theoretical knowledge will be applied in addressing/critiquing potent arguments through the history of philosophy, from Descartes Cogito Ergo Sum to Immanuel Kant's metaphysical theory. The second one-hour block will deal with the application of technique acquired in the aforementioned block. Through consensus, we will decide which topic those in attendance would like to address, and will allow for a demonstration of informal logic and constructive criticism relative to the presentation of said argument (Note: if it is felt that there should be scheduled topics by course attendees, methodology for topic selection is subject to change).

-Presentation One: Introduction to Logic/Rhetoric: Presentation One will address one-third of Aristotle's triangle-of-rhetoric: Logos

1) Layman's Logic vs. Logic as a Math/theoretical science (If everyone has opinions and they're all equally valid, why does debate exist?) -This section will cover the distinction between logic and Logic, as well as an introduction to the syllogistic form/ overview of the structure of argument. The distinction between Formal and Informal Logic will be made.

2) Logic in Practice; a reading of Plato's Euthyphro.

-A group reading of Euthyphro will demonstrate how to address an opponent's argument on an opponent's terms. This will further explain the structure of argument and how many disputes remain unresolved due to axiomatic non-concessions.

-Follow-Up to Presentation One; Debate using per-determined axioms

Check out SIT's new serires of paintings at the DRKPNK Exhibition at the GO Gallery located at Prinsengracht 64, Amsterdam. The show runs from 14 November - 31 December 2009 and the show opens on Saturday November the 14th.

DRKPNK: DRKPNK documents SIT's most recent self-confrontation. The perfectionist SIT looking for ultimate freedom with fun as the ultimate result. No logic, no reasoning, no planning - release it all and let anything happen. This also means saying goodbye to the comfort of success with previous series like Unwired, The Opportunists and Sitaki. He forced himself to improvise and brought his paintings into existence whilst painting them. Without a predetermined plan in his head, but intuitively searching for new inspiration and techniques.

Fluid movements would appear in his rough line drawings, surprising combinations and even introduced color to his acclaimed black and white style.A new freedom was found: FUN

DRKPNK is a mix of beauty, light-heartedness, surrealism, sex, color, humor, drugs, movements and contemporary dynamics. A study in finding the right composition where people and animals form combinations with abstract vanishing points. Painted on i.a. canvas with acrylic and spray can.

A joyful craziness where we happily escape into, away from this high-paced world. And even though tomorrow is today and the day after tomorrow is tomorrow morning - let it happen. The adventure is far more interesting than the destination itself.

Have fun in the world of SIT. Rock along from Unwired to DRK. And from DRK to PNK.

PINK is tomorrow's black.

Use your imagination.

DRKPNK. Let it happen. Dump yesterday.

The increasing complexity of software applications and architectures in Internet services challenge the reasoning of operators tasked with diagnosing and resolving outages and degradations as they arise. This talk will give a glimpse into how other fields handle incident response and paint a picture of what active steps we can take to support engineers in those uncertain and ambiguous scenarios. Examples include fields such as military, surgical trauma units, space transportation, aviation and air traffic control, and wildland firefighting.

Despite higher focus on how failures can be prevented through more robust and fault-tolerant design of these systems, a dearth of research explores the cognitive challenges engineers face when those preventative designs fail and they are left to think and react to scenarios that hadn’t been imagined, much like in fields outside of technology.

People use the same faulty reasoning when they use the following strategies; spend money on a traditional IRA, maintaining a house mortgage, and DIY taxes to try to “save” money on their tax bills. To save yourself money in the long run, read on.

I believe the locomotive on the left is 73129. My reasoning for this is that, as far as I am aware, the valve gear on the left-hand loco is Caprotti valve gear and the only locomotive to end up at Barry so designed was 73129. I would appreciate confirmation or otherwise from anyone more knowledgeable than me regarding such matters.

This image is one from the only colour print film I ever used at Barry and was taken using a Kodak Colorsnap 35A camera.

I take a moment for reasoning and put my thoughts to a friend Jip Keijzer. As much a wished he could be here to breath the same are and stare over these beautiful mountain ranges, I knew he might even be at a much better place. A place where his soul rests in the infiniteness of universe's space. May you live on forever in the hearts and minds of your beloved ones.

process // I created a mini-studio using copy paper and set up two devices with the screen brightness to 100% and displayed the color on each device.

Christopher L. Barrett, Executive Director, Virginia Bioinformatics Institute/Professor of Computer Science, Virginia Tech. Dr. Barrett’s talk entitled “Massively Interactive Systems: Thinking and Deciding in the Age of Big Data"

Abstract: This talk discusses advanced computationally assisted reasoning about large interaction-dominated systems. Current questions in science, from the biochemical foundations of life to the scale of the world economy, involve details of huge numbers and levels of intricate interactions. Subtle indirect causal connections and vastly extended definitions of system boundaries dominate the immediate future of scientific research. Beyond sheer numbers of details and interactions, the systems are variously layered and structured in ways perhaps best described as networks. Interactions include, and often co-create, these morphological and dynamical features, which can interact in their own right. Such “massively interacting” systems are characterized by, among other things, large amounts of data and branching behaviors. Although the amount of associated data is large, the systems do not even begin to explore their entire phase spaces. Their study is characterized by advanced computational methods. Major methodological revisions seem to be indicated.

Heretofore unavailable and rapidly growing basic source data and increasingly powerful computing resources drive complex system science toward unprecedented detail and scale. There is no obvious reason for this direction in science to change. The cost of acquiring data has historically dominated scientific costs and shaped the research environment in terms of approaches and even questions. In the several years, as the costs of social data, biological data and physical data have plummeted on a per-unit basis and as the volume of data is growing exponentially, the cost drivers for scientific research have clearly shifted from data generation to storage and analytical computation-based methods. The research environment is rapidly being reshaped by this change and, in particular, the social and bio–sciences are revolutionized by it. Moreover, the study of socially– and biologically–coupled systems (e.g., societal infrastructures and infectious disease public health policy analysis) is in flux as computation-based methods begin to greatly expand the scope of traditional problems in revolutionary ways.

How does this situation serve to guide the development of “information portal technology” for complex system science and for decision support? An example of an approach to detailed computational analysis of social and behavioral interaction with physical and infrastructure effects in the immediate aftermath of a devastating disaster will be described in this context.
