FANTASY!!

Mystic Realms Faire, October 10 - October 26

We are pleased to say Damselfly is part of the Mystic Realms Faire, a huge 2-sim fair of gorgeous items for fantasy and role play. We have THREE gorgeous new hairs coming out for this plus others we will be selling at the Faire.

First, Vilam is a masculine, mystically-inspired style with a HUD-driven crown that can be turned off for regular wear. Wear it as a prince of the realm or just out on the town!

Sancia is for those days with walks across the windblown moors of your mystic realm and mountain top gazing with the wind blowing your locks about. Take to the air with this style.

Rawnie is a wild one, a gypsy with removable braids and texture change for the bandana and beads.

I am very happy to finally complete this! I saw Brooke Shaden's blog post to raise awareness on Fibromyalgia. I was instantly inspired with both her message and her images. I wanted to participate but was having trouble thinking of a concept special enough. Then one day I woke up to nearly a foot of snow outside my door and I knew what I was going to do!

So I grabbed a dress, my camera, my puppy and I went on an adventure! Taking dogs along for self-portraits means lots of photo bombed shots haha but he loves the snow so I couldn't leave him behind. It was so so cold! I couldn't feel my hands for hours afterwards! That aside, I am so thankful for this experience and this image :)

Those three young Tibetan monks were climbing the staircase leading to the Mahabodhi Temple, the place of Gautama Buddha's attainment of nirvana (Enlightenment), in Bodh Gaya (बोधगया), in the Indian state of Bihar.

I could feel a state of happiness everywhere, it was a perfect day...

In every culture numbers have a meaning, I was wondering what would number Three means in Buddhism and I saw those words from Rev. Jnana, a Zen Dharma Teacher, as he was evocating the role of numbers in communicating the dharma in a teaching titled “BUDDHISM IN THE NUMBERS”.

“The number Three invokes the “Three Refuges” in the Buddha, the Dharma and the Sangha, known as the Triple Gem or the Triratna.

Three is the triloka or the “Three Worlds” or the “Three Realms” of existence which are the Desire Realm, the Form Realm and the Formless Realm.

All Buddhas manifest themselves in “Three Bodies” or the Trikaya: the Truth Body, the Body of Bliss and the Emanation Body.

There are “Three Roots of Evil”, namely greed, hatred and delusion.

All negative states of consciousness are ultimately grounded in one or more of these.

The “Three Characteristics of Existence” are suffering (dukkha), impermanence (anitya) and no permanent self (anatman).

Most of the above teachings are found within the “Three Baskets”, or the Tripitaka, of the traditional Buddhist canon.

Not to ignore Zen, there are the “Three Pillars of Zen”: the constituent elements of teaching, practice and enlightenment.”

One of my favorite movies as a child was The Never Ending Story. The moment where the child looks into the mirror and finds another alternate reality, that inspired me to create my own story of discovering new realms. And who else better to model for me than my very good friend who is a major Harry Potter buff!

Likewise, the many realms of existence all inhabit the same space, but each realm remains distinct by its vibration. In this case it is the vibration of consciousness that makes each realm of existence unique and discrete, so that the inhabitants and activities of that realm arent disturbed by the many other beings inhabiting other realms, all teeming with life.

We can learn to tune-in to some of these many realms through meditation, in which we learn to adjust the vibration of our consciousness.

Herein lies the realm of Lord Takkata. Perched at the foot of Axeblade Falls (whose output conveniently forms a moat); his monolithic stronghold, Chateau Bandolier, stands as an intimidating tribute to human ingenuity and ambition. The towering structure stands nearly a stud tall, and all who gaze upon this ultimate display of his wealth and power are humbled. Due to the Chateau's position on one of the loftiest peaks of the Greencheese Mountain Range, Lord Takkata can survey the entirety of his lands from almost any of the numerous towers that constitute his magnificent residence.

From the sprawling Suitcase Hills and Medusaleaf Plains to the Deadly Dactyl Desert and Motorex Rocks, Takkata's 16x16 realm is an awe-inspiring sight.

For the SSCC (Stupidly Small Castle Challenge).

I've seen so many wonderful microscale things on the photostreams of Siercon and Coral and iridescent nohow, so I thought I'd give that kind of building a try. (Although this isn't particularly well done, it was a quick build anyway.)

Oh, and I'm trying out a new background. :D

Realms Beyond Understanding

I am drifting into the realms beyond my understanding.

Beyond the shadows of my former self.

Extreme cold caused the Great Lakes to freeze over in this location, giving access to the Apostle Islands. This happens very rarely (last time it happened it was in 2009!) and it usually lasts only for a few weeks. I feel really lucky to be able to see it this time. Only God knows when it'll happen again! Yesterday was the last day for this year. The national park rangers had to close the place because the ice was getting too weak and had too many cracks, creating safety hazard for hikers. I traveled about 4 hrs to this spot. When I got to the Apostle Island Nat Park parking lot, I had to hike about 2 miles each way on foot, in the cold. And I mean COLD!! But it did worth it! It is out of this world! Unfortunately for photographers, a lot of people have found out about it and it's no longer a quiet and place...

These are all the characters I've played to date in the various BZP Realms games on BZPower.

The Games were first started by Voltex on BZP.

From left to right: Voxumo Ash, Vinheim Maran and Kaathe.

Note all the first names were based on display names I previously had on BZPower.

One may be excused for borrowing cliches from the realm of popular utterances. Then, that is how it does feel when you see sights such as this in real life.

A perma frosted river slam bang in the midst of tropical coconut trees in Bangalore.

This is Bellandur in Bangalore, a place notorious for foul smell, skin rashes and breathing troubles and a prime spot of ecological disaster.

Bellandur Lake is the largest water body in the plateau that is Bangalore. The terrain made it a huge reservoir which cheked the flow of water from the Koramangla and Challaghatta valleys and then slowly discharged it into the Pennar river that flows into Andhra Pradesh and Tamilnadu.

Till the 1980s it was a ecologically sound lake with fishing, irrigation of crops and potable water being drawn from it. The city population exploded in the late 1980s when it became the hub of IT business. Houses and offices sprung up everywhere at a frenetic pace. The income and cash flow generation was enormous. Money flowed everywhere. Business flourished, more people came in. In a few years time, the lake lost its potability, its fishing and its pristine beauty. The clear water became a turbid black pool with hyacinth growing wild.

The storm water drains which used to bring in the excess rain waters into the lake became channels of sewage that the residential and commercial buildings discharged unfiltered into the waterways. The lake just died a quick death. The overpowering stench of hydrogen sulphide and allied sulphur & phosphorus compounds infused the atmosphere all around it. A stench that we in India are familiar with where letting pollutants freely into the eco-space is not regarded as a danger.

Today the lake is about 700-800 acres big and is overgrown with hyacinth and weeds and it has two outflow channels that takes its polluted waters downstream. The public works departments have made two spillways which are narrow and it is here that on rainy days the lake water generates lather and foam that rises up many feet high and it piles up. The rustling wind over the lake ever so often raises large suds in the air and they keep on floating up like soap bubbles in a child’s play toy. At times the foam covers the bridge over the spillway and people have perforce to pass through it.

It is from one of these places that this photograph has been shot on a post rainy day in July 2016.

In the year 2016, we still have this problem and looks like will continue to have it in the near future as well. It is to do with how things are done in India. The Sewage treatment plants filter and throw the water into these water bodies. Even if you consider this as a clean and not a reprehensible act, then you must know that almost 50 percent of these plants do not even work and untreated sewage goes straight in. Secondly the number of STPs are not enough. The government of Karnataka expresses it inability by quoting lack of finances.

The situation is the same as governments in India have always expressed. Take urban transportation. UN, World Bank and a whole host of other nations and institutions had always been willing to fund a metro system in Delhi etc but the government would not take the money as such projects did not have kickbacks and opportunities for contractors to generate bogus bills as a tight fiscal discipline was always a pre requisite for such grants. So it took decades for the Indian government to agree to have the metro system.

That is how the cookie crumbles in India and I guess people in Bangalore as well as the ones living alongside the holy Yamuna river must wait for some succour and common sense to prevail in the corridors of the government where one day they may agree to being funded under a tight fiscal control.

Dryads of Summer and Autumn:

Dryads are ancient beings of the Valewood Realm, the passage of time having little effect on creatures made of wood and bough. Loosely resembling elves, the dryads roamed the woods and shepherded the tree saplings long before their pointy-eared neighbors first stepped foot upon the moss covered forest floors. The elves of the Realm and the dryads were actually enemies thousands of years ago, with the forest shepherds seeing the elves as destructive to the ways of nature. They fought bitter battles against one another, committing atrocities that are not mentioned in todays time. It was only the advent of evil races like that of the Brayherd and the Orcs that led to the pact between elf and wood, and ever since that time there has been peace between the two races.

Dryads have bodies made entirely of wood, with limbs like sharp branches and faces of rough bark. They are formidable foes in combat, able to call upon the wild heart of the forest to lend them strength and fortitude and protect their forest homeland with a stoic resolve. Seemingly able to melt out of the forest and ambush their foes in combat, the dryads are excellent stalkers that know every twisted path of the Realm.

As the seasons change under the leafy boughs of the forests, so to do the dryads that guard their favored trees. During spring and summer, these dryads are seen with lightly colored barks that adorn their body and have a lively spirit that resembles the life and growth of the summer months. However, when the leaves begin to change and the air turns cold, these dryads go deep within the woods to sleep away the winter, leaving the shepherding of the woods to the Dryads of the Autumn. These dryads are truly superb, able to withstand the cold and death of the forests with a strong, stoic resolve. They are resolute in their duties and have a much more somber demeanor than their summer brethren. Dark of bark and dark of mind, these dryads are the most combat ready of their race, for they guard the Realm when it is at its weakest.

When a man completely finds Himself.

He is in His Realm.

Everything seems to flow right.

Nothing stops Him in believing in what He is going to do is going to come to fruition.

He's able to set Himself free from the burden of overly thinking.

He's able to believe that nothing is impossible because of the phrase "I'm possible" within that word.

When you see all the walls down that He, Himself, put up crumble like the Berlin wall.

That is when you know HE is truly in His Realm.

Starting October 10th, the Mystic Realms Faire brings you nearly 150 of your favorite desigers from SL with their awesome creations. Check out our website: www.mysticrealmsfaire.com/ Check out our Contributors! :)
