A Painted Grasshopper (Dactylotum bicolor) on hedgehog cactus in the Marathon Grasslands of Brewster County, Texas.
I captured an RAF Chinook flying low near Goodwood in Sussex with its twin rotors clearly visible. Faint engine exhaust plumes trail behind the aircraft and drift upward against the bright clouds. Its position in the frame shows the aircraft moving steadily across the open sky.
I took this on my birthday quite a ways ago. Never knew quite what to do with it. I don't quite love it. But I very much liked the process of experimentation.
The environment on Alcatraz Island made building maintenance a tough thing.Cool temps,high winds,and abundant moisture put a constant strain on the best of structures.When the prison was closed in 1963,the neglect caused considerable damage until the island was made part of Golden Gate Park….

This rather unique "Hole in the Wall", held my interest for a long time. And, when others arrived it was necessary to move in order to let them get the same shot as the one previously posted. This image was one of many I took and illustrates more a sense of place than the previous photo. These tree roots were bare because the river had overflowed its banks eroding the topsoil.

Into the realm I found peace and kindness. I thought I would go to this hiking trail where I have been before. Seems like a great spot for some scenic wooded shots, and a wee bit of solitude.

This was basically a house money shot. I had already accomplished the scenic "wow" shots of this train, as it trundled back to Trona I debated not even taking this picture. Nothing special... but the light was great so why not. Well, good thing I ignored the impulse to be a moron, because this exact shot is no longer possible. TRC 2007 and 2009 have been cut up this past week and will never again ply the desert. Acquired in 2002, Trona would end up with 3 former UP SD40-2's. The deck was stacked against them from the beginning. To start, they were already ratty looking and were replacing some gorgeous looking SD45-2's, painted in a resplendent red and silver scheme. Then of course, they weren't as neat as the former SP units on property still sporting their scarlett and grey. Third, a more common locomotive there was not. Union Pacific rostered 1,079 SD40-2's at one time, part of the staggering 4,029 produced by EMD between 1972 and 1989. At some point though, they transcended being mundane and entered the realm of cool again. In the age of GE dominance and Tier 4 nonsense, Trona's 7 EMD's became the rock against which progress gnashed its teeth. Watching these ugly beasts climb the grade, roaring through a hellish landscape on only two steel rails as they climb nearly vertical out of the basin.... I guess they aren't so mundane after all.

With each step, she radiates a powerful grace, her presence commanding the attention of both allies and adversaries. Her silver wings, etched with the scars of countless battles, speak of resilience and the will to rise again, no matter the odds.
These lightwells run around the outskirts of the courtyard and can be seen if you peep over the edge. If you go on the tour of Somerset you can get to see them also - see their website for details. It's free!

Enchanted (in Elven Realm)! It's a beautiful, magical fantasy forest full of wonderful places to explore. It has hidden discoveries at every turn plus a few special areas like, the mermaid inlet, mushroom forest, dark forest, unicorn pasture, flower field, and gathering spot where you can dance,visit and relax. Environmental Designer Andrek Lowell, creator of Chakryn and Bentham Forest, was my collaborator for this venue. He does amazing work!
The sim is an animal refuge, especially for the rare and wonderful unicorn (you know, since it's a virtual fantasy forest after all!). Animal lover that I am, I felt this was the perfect purpose for the sim. A percentage of any donations given to the sim will be in turn given to the national animal rights advocacy group, Friends of Animals.
Please come for a visit!. If you put in Elven Realm on the map search in game, you'll find it!
