The last full day of summer here at Kaercher Creek. The asters blooming in the field are attracting all the butterflies. Standing in the shade of the ash trees, I see a flash of deep rich gold that alights deep in the middle of the field. It is a Monarch butterfly! They have been very rare this summer. Now this female Monarch perches regally in a patch of sun parched vegetation. I take what she offers me and share it with you. She is beautiful!

The Great Hypostyle Hall of the Karnak temple complex, in the Precinct of Amon-Re, is one of the most visited monuments of Ancient Egypt.
The hall covers an area of 50,000 sq. ft. (almost 5,000 sq. m.). The roof, now fallen, was supported by 134 massive columns in 16 rows; the two middle rows are higher than the others (being 33 feet (10 m) in circumference and 80 feet (24 m) high). The hall is believed to be built by Seti I with later decorations added by his son, Ramesses II.
The architraves on top of these columns are estimated to weigh 70 tons. These may have been lifted to these heights using levers. This would be an extremely time-consuming process and also would require great balance to get to such great heights. A common alternative theory about how they were moved is that there were large ramps made of sand mud brick or stone and the stones were towed up the ramps. If they used stone for the ramps they would have been able to build the ramps with much less material. The top of the ramps presumably would have either wooden tracks or cobblestones for towing the megaliths.

In the Realm of the Senses (Ai no corrida), by the always provocative Japanese director Nagisa Oshima, remains one of the most controversial films of all time. In 1928, Moravian Bank initiated the construction of a building that has had a great influence on the appearance of náměstí Svobody to this day. Architects Bohuslav Fuchs, Miloslav Kopřiva, Emil Králík, Jaroslav Syřiště, Jaroslav Stockar-Bernkopf, Jan Víšek and Ernst Wiesner submitted entries in the architectural competition. The original Kounic Palace was replaced by a building co-designed, as the jury had requested, by architects Ernst Wiesner and Bohuslav Fuchs. The structural part was designed mainly in Fuch's studio, while Wiesner and his studio focused on the designs of detailed parts. The uniqueness of the Moravian Bank building stems mainly from its structural concept. Both street facades (the side overlooking náměstí Svobody as well as the other facing Veselá Street) are suspended on protruding roof panels, with the supporting ferro-concrete pillars drawn into the interior. This concept produced an airy facade broken only by the vertical elements of the suspension system and the horizontal elements of windows with opaxite ledges.
